to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

The lady possibly feels some stigma/shame around the infection use, so just be nice and let her say it's willpower. It'll do noone any good to mention it. Bottom line is it's great she's found a way to help her lose weight if she was overweight. Good for her. Good for her work. Good for the NHS.

That would be completely understandable. But why keep making a song and dance about all the dieting, food, exercise 5 days a week?

It’s only a ‘song and a dance’ in your head

just normal interactions and general conversation to most others

🤣🤣

bpirockin · 11/08/2025 19:15

I would find the hypocrisy irritating myself.

Not your business generally, I agree, but wtf gives her the right to comment on other people's choices?

I'd probably try and hold my tongue but be waiting to pounce next time she commented on my habits, quietly and away from others if I could hold it that long! It's nothing short of a lie, and I can't stand when people think you're dumb enough to fall for their BS. So many people are using them now anyway, it's hardly a shameful secret.

She wouldn’t bring it to work if it was mounjaro. It needs to be kept in a fridge and it doesn’t have a needle attached, you attach the needle at home. Also you take it once a week so if she’s trying to hide it there’s no chance she would bring it to work to inject when she could just do it in the privacy of her home.

You do realise this could also be true right? The fact that she’s got some help doesn’t take away from any good habits she’s formed.

Yeah, if you do a degree whilst on ADHD meds or antidepressants, the pills get up at night time and write your dissertation for you like a scene from Cinderella!

Not the most interesting of topics

But I'd rather listen to her chatter about her meal preps than listen to you bitter bitches if I worked at your workplace

Misogyny at its finest.

I can see how annoying it is if she banging on about willpower but has a helping hand. I agree it’s none of your business, but the point is she’s making it your business by going on about it.

She obviously chucked her sharps bin in her bag too!

Is it normal to bring up dieting, food and exercise 5 days a week several times a day?

Maybe that is normal to you. It is not to me. I don't want to be told I should not be having a snack. Again this is normal for you?

So why do you think she would be carrying the injection pen around in her handbag when Mounjaro and Wegovy - the two most common weight loss drugs - are only injected once a week ?

Agree with most of this but Mounjaro doesnt need to be kept in the fridge after the first use.

I think you need to learn how injections are stored and used… they ain’t shooting up multiple times a day fyi

In an average working day your colleague reminds you she’s on a diet once every 1.25 hours? Nah.

I’m on MJ, I inject once a week and the pen can be stored in a cupboard or a fridge. There’s no reason why your colleague would bring this into the office and then on top of it, leave it on full display after bragging (once every 1.25 hours apparently) about her willpower.

Its not supposed to go above 30 degrees tho so I don't know anyone who is taking about in their handbags in summer

Telepathickitty · 11/08/2025 19:31

Your colleague sounds a diet bore.

Having said that - I lost 9st last year without injections/pills/surgery and so many people accused me to my face of being on jabs. It was extremely disheartening.

Our family had a big trauma around Xmas time and I regained 21lb and struggled to stay on track. A family member then offered to pay for WLI to help me back on track and I ended up deciding that since everyone had made their mind up that im on WL injections anyway that I may as well just do it. Ive now lost what I had regained plus another stone so I'm at 10st lost and I've got 6 more to go.

I do wish people would just mind their own bloody business though. I worked so flipping hard to lose that weight. I'm still working hard on the injections but I don't have to concentrate quite as much and i don't have to make weight loss the sole focus of my life any more.

It sounds unlikely that the injection you saw was a WLI, as most people keep them in the fridge and it is only once per week so there would be no need for it to be in her bag at work.

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

This. You only inject once a week so why is on the top of her bag?

Does she carry it around out the fridge to go off because she is also utterly loaded? Or is she injecting daily. Or just goady BS?

It bothers me for the reasons I have listed in a previous post.

Perhaps that’s something you need to resolve in a therapeutic environment with a skilled professional

DarkForces · 11/08/2025 19:33

You're going to find her irritating whether she's on weight loss medication or not. Maybe address what's actually annoying you with her and ask her to stop commenting on your food
