to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

Congratulations. Thats a huge weight loss and you should be proud (however you did it).

But others shouldn’t be deciding how you did it and disbelieving you. Flowers

I just think it’s because I’m not the massive one anymore.

I keep being gleefully told I will pile it all back on too, once I’ve finished my “diet.” I’m not on a diet. This is just how I eat now. I just woke up one day, had enough and changed my life (I might have sat on a wall hung toilet at ikea and almost pulled it off the wall 😅). People don’t believe you can just change over night.

DisapprovingSpaniel · 11/08/2025 18:40

Are you sure she's not lost weight by eating bullshit?

Does it matter?

I’ve lost 16 stone over the last 4 years, 3 and a half of that this year. I’ve been “confronted” so many time this year about weight loss injections. No matter what I say, there are a couple of people so angry at me, wanting me to admit it. One person stopped speaking to me over my “lies.” I’m sure there are more people convinced I am on it and lying.

I’m not on them. I just stopped eating anything processed and I don’t eat sugar or fake sugar. I was 27 stone and killing my self and I decided one day that I didn’t want to be that way anymore. It’s a very boring story. That’s it. My only “secret” is that I was diagnosed with celiac, so that cut out a huge swathe of crap (McDonalds and Greggs, my old loves 😭), and the rest was easy.

But when I tell people that, they won’t accept it.

Edited

Well done!! I am so proud of you x

None of your business.

Still no need for anyone to carry it around with them though. Taking it isn’t time critical.

Yes you are correct but she may have it with her because she doesn’t want it at home if who she lives with doesn’t know ?

Rewis · 11/08/2025 18:44

Yeah, she shiuld either admit to the injection or stop banging on about willpower and diets.

However, there is shame attached to the weightloss meds so it is likely that it is a deflection. So everytime she goes on just think to yourself that it is bs and how you're the one who knows the truth and keep it to yourself.

XenoBitch · 11/08/2025 18:44

YABVU
Why does she have to disclose if she is on WLI or not? And why would she be carrying the pen around when you don't take them at specified times? It is most likely some other sort of medication... which is none of your business.

I don't understand the hate for them on here. They are a tool. They are not cheating. You still have to work at your diet etc on them.

Now they are more readily available on the NHS, I know more people on them. The same people who used to moan that their GP said a lot of their health issues were down to obesity... and now they have had to go back to their GP and admit they were right and that they are indeed obese. It does not matter though, They are doing great on them and making healthy choices.

MalcolmMoo · 11/08/2025 18:44

As far as I know the injections you take once a week, so not sure why she’s be carrying it around in her bag?

Has bugger all to do with you. She may well be doing the dieting and the injections.

Yeah, if you do a degree whilst on ADHD meds or antidepressants, the pills get up at night time and write your dissertation for you like a scene from Cinderella!

My ADHD meds don't do that, but I don't go around telling other people, "Stop playing that game on your phone! You need to learn to focus better like me!" or "What do you mean you need me to repeat what I just said? Nowadays, I listen to people the first time they speak!" In fact, if someone was to ever say I seem more focussed that usual, which hasn't ever happened, I would say, "Oh yes, the ADHD meds I'm taking really help me to concentrate."

I am being told to leave her alone so I am not going to question why she is carrying it around. She might be hiding it from her family, I don't know.

She doesn't need to admit to anything and I really can't see why she'd keep an expensive injector pen in her bag at work??

Bigsigh24 · 11/08/2025 18:45

Privacy so no one at home knows ?

Then what would she do with them in the evening and at weekends when she’s not at work? Makes no sense. If you didn’t want anyone at home to know, you’d find a good hiding place. Not cart them around in the day and take them home in the evening.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 11/08/2025 17:36

Why would she be carrying it around with her?

Yeah, this.

no way would she keep a pen outside the fridge

and as others have said, fuck off with your judgement, and your BS about “doing it naturally”

IF she’s on the jabs, she’s eating less and therefore losing weight.

would you be so much of a prick with someone giving up smoking when using patches or gum? Or someone navigating the menopause with the help of HRT?

im sick to death of these petty minded pricks thinking they have a right to an opinion on other people’s health/wellbeing.

myfriendsfamily · 11/08/2025 18:48

You sound jealous and obnoxious, OP!

You don’t know what the medication actually is ! I know that if I saw a random injection in someone’s bag, I wouldn’t be able to identify it! Do you take the same thing?

I’m actually struggling a little to even believe this happened.

I didn’t suggest you ask her why she’s carrying them around.

KhakiOrca · 11/08/2025 18:48

To be honest, if someone is going on about will power etc I would really want to out them! But I would probably mind my own business.
There's someone on my FB who has lost 10 stone in 2 yrs. I can't help but think it's from weight loss jabs.
Ive lost 4 stone in 7 yrs due to a change of eating habits and would never risk those jabs, but each to their own.

Caravaggiouch · 11/08/2025 18:48

Sounds like none of your business.

Norfolklass2428 · 11/08/2025 18:39

None of your business OP.

i have lost a significant amount of weight through having weight loss surgery. My colleagues ask if I have lost weight - I say something generic and shut it down.

My colleagues are just that, they are not friends or family and I am not close enough to them to want them knowing about my difficult weight loss journey.

i am also diabetic and carry my insulin pen and an epi- pen. I would be mortified if I thought colleagues were nosing into my bag and wrongly guessing about how I am losing weight and discussing it.

I didn't go nosing in her bag. I walked past and it was on her desk wide open. I often put any post that has arrived for her on her desk.

Hate all of this food / diet carry-on in work…

The women in my office used to poke at my lunch.
“Oooh! You’re sooo healthy!” I like salad & sushi.

I never mentioned them drinking buckets of Starbucks.
Or their Egg McMuffins, chocolate, biscuits, cakes…

Let this woman talk about food & ignore her!

This. And they're supposed to be in the fridge really. I don't know a single person who would take one to work in their handbag 😅😅😅

What am I jealous of? Someone who says they lost weight by dieting and exercising but then didn't? Someone who keeps talking about food and dieting all the time? Someone who tells everyone else to stop eating snacks and then eats them herself?

What exactly is there to be jealous of?

My sister is at slimming world and has just won woman of the month, she's on mounjaro! Hasn't told them and lies about her diet on sw. I hate this! There should be no shame being on mj, it's helping people.
I think people should mind their own business, its no concern of anyone how someone loses weight, its just the lying i despise.
I really don't believe you when you say you saw it in her bag. 100% didn't happen.
