Am I too posh for Cambridge?

Leave my house and my odds of being harassed by a male seem to be almost 100%. Chances of passing someone stinking of weed/human shit/body odor are also 100%. Chances of being sworn at by a vagrant: 100%. Chances of having my bike stolen 0% because it's worthless and has 5 locks on it but if there was one less lock it would be 100%. There is no sense of community here. Everyone seem to be extremely rude to each other and there's a stabbing every week.

I am trying so hard to be less judgemental and stuck up but I don't have the fight in me anymore.

What the hell am I paying SO much MONEY for?

Can someone recommend somewhere better that isn't too far. What is Norwich like? Ely? Seems to have lower crime. Is moving to Southwold my only hope? I can't do this anymore. Cambridge is sold as a salubrious area but is extremely uncivilised.

And this is another thread where Op hasn’t returned. ..,
The city and areas around it has hugely expanded, roads and pavements crowded , all year round tourism now. I agree it has less of a community feel.

No other major employer? Do you know Cambridge?!!

I was about to say the same thing!

I have an aunt who lives there. They think they’re posh but the private school kids are yobs who smoke weed!

Edited

Not all of them! Some are quite nice. And where would Curtis and Mace be without them?

There was a stabbing in Oakham last year, I think. People prefer Stamford but that also has its fair share of fights.

I have never experiences any of these things in either Ely or Norwich. Or Cambridge for that matter, but I've only done a few day trips there.

Confused the big and little Sainsbury's...I lived at the 'posh' end of Mill Road :).

Sorry if that's of no interest to anyone, but just had to say!!

Crime is out of control in most parts of the UK

And yet I was reading in the Times today that crime is the lowest it’s been for 25 years.

I think you’ll find the way they are currently recording it lends itself to those statistics.

Admittedly very limited experience but we stayed at an Airbnb last weekend and my teen DC commented on how posh everyone was!
Even the local coop was posh - dozens of buckets of very fresh beautiful flowers outside-not the half dead selection in a bucket like at ours!.
There was a house for sale just 2 doors down and I looked it up on zoopla and was shocked to see it was on for 975k, 3 bed victorian terrace that needed a fair bit of work.
Of course in any large town there will be wealthy areas and poorer deprived areas and we were staying centrally.
But it did strike me you would have to be very wealthy to buy even a modest home in Cambridge

I think you should read the two extracts from the report I posted yesterday, or better still, the whole report.

Come to Norwich! It’s beautiful 🤩

I moved down to Cambridge 20 years ago. It's lovely although I live in one of the villages now so it might be awful to live in the city centre. I must admit, I was shocked by the blatant racism here. Not sure if it's the same now (probably).

Also not the friendliest of places. I remember going to a baby group in Girton and not one person would speak to me. Just one word answers. Very odd. I am northern though, so obviously too common 😁

when I used to go to clubs ( early 2000s) I was always surprised at how little violence there was on a Saturday night in Cambridge. Being from up north I thought several fights a night was the norm 🤔

Is Disco Kenny still around? I only go in to Cambridge for shopping now so haven't seen him in years.

Yes, Disco Kenny is still around, I saw him a few weeks ago.

Had a re-read, OP mentioned being sworn at by a vagrant 100%.

That sounds like Jason. He's an infamous Cambridge character banned in the city centre. He once walked past me on Fitzroy St, called me c u next Tuesday. Did the same thing to the woman behind me. Scary but there are worse men out there.
He's in and out of prison so you do get months of peace when he's locked up.

Cambridge is a bit shit. It’s only expensive in comparison to the rest of east anglia/ east of England though so not expensive in the big scheme of things.
