To think Kate and William saw Harry and Meghan as a real threat to their image?

From the moment Harry and Meghan got together, the media attention was huge. Meghan was glamorous, charismatic, and had a strong public presence - something the royal family hadn’t seen before from an outsider. For a while, it felt like they were the most exciting and modern part of the monarchy.

Kate and William have always been the “stable” and “traditional” royals but suddenly, Harry and Meghan were drawing attention in a way that might have made them seem more relatable and interesting in comparison. The shift in public perception (and maybe even palace dynamics) must have been unsettling.

Obviously things have played out the way they have but AIBU to think that, at least at the time, William and Kate felt genuinely threatened by how much attention and influence Harry and Meghan were gaining?

How can you say that when the RF are capable of spinning and covering up almost anything?? The majority of them are FAR from sainthood themselves.

Quite easily, because I fully agree most of the RF are ghastly and regularly criticise them too

It's honestly not about "picking a side" but objecting to all unacceptable behaviour, and for me that applies no matter who it is

I'm not particularly a fan of Catherine, and I don't hate Meghan. I don't know them.
MM seemed wrong from the minute I heard of her. Gushy, fake, american, divorced, actor. She and her now husband didn't look like a couple - just like Charles and Diana didn't.
She was in the same position as Sarah had been before her, and it wasn't going to suit her.

MM seemed wrong from the minute I heard of her. Gushy, fake, american, divorced, actor.

Why is being divorced wrong?
Why is being American wrong?
Why is being an actress (not actor) wrong?
Why is it wrong if she is gushy?

If I didn’t know better, I’d think OP was Meghan herself!

I thought BluntPinkNewt was the OP of this thread.
Sounds like you think it's you, YourBrickTiger?

Of course they did, hence half the adverse briefings about H&M. But the media lapped/lap it up. 🙄

I love a bit of history in the form of the Anglo-Afghan wars in the 19th century, personally!

My only real awareness of the Afghan Wars is the odd book: I think Lord Elphinstone appeared in "Flashman in the Great Game". I absolutely love most Flashman books, however I gather the character has been sort of cancelled - if one can cancel a fictitious character - as the vile, misogynistic, racist (yet completely self aware), poltroon that the character was.

The books were meticulously footnoted, though.

Avocando · 24/10/2025 06:30

I thought they seemed like a breath of fresh air to the monarchy. When they announced their pregnancy with Archie on baby loss awareness day I thought “well that’s a terrible PR team”

Kate and Wills probably knew they were no threat

Avocando · 24/10/2025 06:34

Personally MM is a bit too sickly sweet Hollywood for me. However I will say they clearly do a lot for other people and do seem to care even if it doesn’t always hit the mark.

They clearly were never going to thrive as part of the RF

HedwigEliza · 24/10/2025 06:38

MM is an appalling liar and has been caught out so many times telling untruths. H is just as bad because he goes along with her dreadful behaviour. They could have accomplished so much and done a lot of good for other people, but chose to squander the opportunity.

PollyBell · 24/10/2025 07:16

Op you type like you know them personally, all you know is what the media tells you, how on earth do you even know they care what h&m get up to let alone thrit own image?

FondantFancyAnyone · 24/10/2025 07:36

@Spectre8 , I didn't say that any of those were wrong. None of them are individually and in themselves, but she comes across as fake.

You said she seemed wrong from fhe minute you saw her. Gushy, American...if those arent wrong then why me tion them why not just leave it at fake.

FondantFancyAnyone · 24/10/2025 07:50

@Spectre8 , because of another divorced American who married into the RF.
My post was based on my opinion on a woman marrying into a role with more implications than a typical marriage.
I can post what I like, it's an opinion, and the combination was more than the sum of its parts.

Is this Meg’s new spin dr retrying to drum up interest In them? I’ve just read her last one (10th) just quit… 🥴. Either way - YABU. Harry’s been pretty stupid tho … it’s him I probably feel a bit bad for..
