me and dh have earnt good money over the yeras but have really lived it up.
i booked a v expensive holiday, a few months ago, booked it on a whim tbh, and also to get out of a childless wedding those that read the thread know what im talking about

anyhow the last two months, ive been saving hard and econamising and im doing well, i even cleaned the car today in the car with a sponge and some washing up liquid

but now i feel like i should of saved the money ive spent on this holiday, oh well i suppose i should just try and get it into my head its paid for so enjoy it i guess! but still feel like i should of saved it

Nixz · 28/05/2008 22:58

I think the way things have changed the last few years you are either dripping in Dior or spending in Argos!!!!
Whats wrong with trying to do both!!!!
Lets live in a council house, own a plasma TV and go to the maldives! If it makes ya happy!!!!!

No more red wine for me, lambrini next time!

Nixz · 28/05/2008 22:59

mmmm sipping Lambrini whilst holidaying in Bora Bora!!!!

TheArtfulPedant · 28/05/2008 23:02

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 28/05/2008 23:04

nixz, i think i kinda get what you mean, its like nothing/nowhere is out of reach even to us mere plebs

do you hve a plasma? we do !!
everyone finds it funny, and sometimes i get stuff from argos and some times [in the past not latelty] ive brought v v expensive stuff!

i don't like lambrini but i do like lambrusco and asti, does that count?

what sort of stuff do you get up to?

Well, we just sold our beautiful BWW and have just bought a million year old Bongo Campervan! And why not, its fun to go camping in the UK.
However, we also make a point of visiting some luuurrrrvly hotels a few times a year. No country Lake District in the wilderness or city centre Holiday inns but the real deal, where bath robes and pink champagne are standard. Hotel rooms that are bigger than our home and have piano bars where a singer is draped over a grand piano singing "doobeee doobeee dooo"
Theres no way that we would ever conform - we do what we feel at the time.
So, if you decide to become a SAHM that doesnt mean you need to become a different person!
I love the fact that one day we are eating burgers on a bbq in the woods and the next we are being served Bollinger!!!! Its greeeeeat (thats my tony the tiger impression!)
FWIW, we arent rich, we dont save but we feel strongly that we should grab any opportunity/dream/ambition by the horns! We do boring stuff aswell

Nixz · 28/05/2008 23:31

Erm....whats lambrusco???
I only know Lambrini because its all i see in the recycling boxes when walking DD to school!!!!!

Nixz · 28/05/2008 23:32

Just out of interest, what are you saving for????

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 28/05/2008 23:33

you sound fun

where do you live ?

OP posts:
milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 28/05/2008 23:37

its basically like lambrini but even sweeter lol

well im not saving as such just not spending money like i used to.

i think you'd be a bad influence on me ...lol

we don't have any debts though do you? if you do does it worry you?

OP posts:
Nixz · 28/05/2008 23:50

Im just outside Liverpool. Just need to point out that because of where I live, My dd (7.5) doesnt wear lacoste or Elle!!!!!!!
Yes, I have debts, Dp doesnt but he ends up paying mine!! Most of mine where from my student days though, I met DP just after so he KNOWS they are creeping about!!! He is much more sensible than I am but is really ambitious. He is a professional Skydiver, scuba instructer, superbike racer, I shop and dd shops!!!!!!
To be honest, everything is much more expensive at the moment, utilities, petrol, mortgages so we have had to tighten our belts or curb our adventures a lot this year. So dont feel too bad about being cautious, just dont forget who you are and what you like
I get really cross when you remember when you were in school and you knew certain people had so much about them, you meet them later in life and they are 2.4 children, semi etc type of people. I have no problem with that, infact I envy some of them (Dp and I have struggled with infertility for years) but you know that they are 'just settling' rather than putting a little bit of effort into their lives. IYKWIM???
That spurs me on!

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 29/05/2008 09:36

lol about the lacoste! ive only been to liverpool once about 5 years ago, and loads of people where wearing shellsuits with socks pulled up over the bottoms of them
a v unique style!

im in north london, and everything is a rip off round here.
your dh sounds fun, so what does he do to earn the money skydive or scuba or both?
where does he dive up there in the mersey!
my dh is an accountant for the goverment
when he is not racing his superbike[not] lol

i also have 1 dd, do you hope to have anymore, im not sure i like it just us three, sort of feel our families complete so im giving myself few years to see.
i know what you mean about the suburban types, what sort of place do you live in.
i live in a semi [suburb]

are you going on holiday this year? going in the camper van?

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 29/05/2008 09:44

Go on the holiday and enjoy yourselves!

I am a SAHLB too and we have little disposable income as a result but we do always manage to take the children on a nice holiday each year and somehow find the money.

Everyone deserves a treat and if you are carefull all year around why shouldn't you?

DH and I justify it on the basis that we don't go out nearly as much as we want to or used to so that's where the money comes from

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 29/05/2008 09:49

thanks willmouse, im just going to forget about the fact i could of saved the money and enjoy it.
we cetainly won't be going there next year although we will hopefully get to go on a holiday next year too

where are you going this year willmous?

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 29/05/2008 09:55

This year we are going to Lanzarote for two weeks. Not really posh but the kids will love it so we will get some peace.

Top tip, I have already booked next years' holiday - I always do it over a year in advance so you can get a free child place and make yourself feel slightly better about it

Next year we are going to Majorca. We have found an all inclusive resort which was quite reasonable.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 29/05/2008 10:08

where are you going in majorca wm?

ah i like your style, booking next years in advance, do you book yours online? what site did you use?

where abouts in lanzarote are you going?
playa blanca looks nice, havent been though

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 29/05/2008 10:21

We always go with Thompsons - which isn't everyone's cup of tea but they have free child places and and super-safe for children. The clubs are run by qualified staff who adhere to UK ratios and they use a 'themed curriculum' so they actually plan out activities for each day based on a theme e.g the beach.

This year we are going to Playa Flamingo at Playa Blanca. We got 2 free places for our children because we are going with my parents which I reckon saved me about £800.

Next year we did not get a free child place but it was actaully cheaper to pay for them than to go somewhere where they were free (they obviously just pile the money onto the adult prices). Anwyay it is here : protur safari

We have paid about £2,500 for the four of us for the last two weeks in July but wont have to put our hands in our pockets for two weeks.

MrsPuddleduck · 29/05/2008 10:27

Another reason we go with Thomsons is that they have a fair few properties (like the one we are going to) where you can go half board or all inclusive and still get an apartment.

As much as I love my boys I would probably kill them if we were hauled up in a hotel bedroom for a fortnight. Plus if they are really tired they go to bed in the main room and at least we can have a bottle of wine and potter around without waking them up!

Where are you off to?

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk · 29/05/2008 10:45

willmouse that places looks lovely, what a nice pool they beach in playa blanca looks nice too, also the playground looks lovley too.
whay board are you stayin on ?

dd is only 11 months atm so when shes 2 ill have to be a bit more savy to getting deals, as i think thats when they count as children isnt it?

where are you going next year?
i like majorca too

we are going
here
