Bloody bastard weight loss

Shabang21 · 06/08/2025 19:42

Help please!

I’m so bloody sick of feeling like shit, being constantly tired, aching, jumping from one weight loss thing to another and literally getting NOWHERE. Besides stapling my mouth shut, what can I do? I look around and SO MANY people are dropping weight by the tonne, they surely can’t all be on weight loss jabs, cos they’re so expensive?

I have tried; Keto, slim fast, exante, slimming world, weight watchers, fast 800, calorie counting. It starts promising ish, but nothing seems to stick?

So please, let me know what worked for you, and if it’s even worth bothering now; I’ve been trying to shift weight for 15 years, all I’ve done is got heavier and I’m so sick of this shit!!

Weight loss injections are expensive but I have saved money from not buying so many take aways, too many snacks and general bad food. I haven’t noticed a huge dent in my monthly outgoings from WLI.

UninterestedBeing12 · 06/08/2025 19:44

That's so frustrating, and it's a very boring journey.

How much weight do you have to lose.

In my opinion diets aren't the answer. Neither are weight lost jabs. I saw yet another article in the paper today. But when you stop taking them, the weight piles on again.

Diets really don't work, and it's so hard to stick at the only way to do it is sticking to a healthier eating plan for life.

What are your weaknesses. Mine are sweets and chocolate

SkibidiSigma · 06/08/2025 19:45

Any reason you can't do the jabs?

I can't afford them on paper and am careful to maximise deals etc. Last 2 pens have worked out about £15 a week which I can save on food and wine so cost neutral.

There are plenty like me out there, so yes I reckon most are on wli

BIWI · 06/08/2025 19:45

Whatever it is you’ve started, have you stuck to it? Or have you given up after a couple of weeks?

Zempy · 06/08/2025 19:48

Mounjaro costs me £13-18 a week once I take into account my much lower grocery bills.

I have lost over four stone this year.

Of course they're all on the jabs.

Yes, jf you don't stick to your lifestyle changes the weight will pile on again. Like any diet.

FurForksSake · 06/08/2025 19:55

Whatever you do has to be sustainable and a lifestyle rather than a diet. All of things you mentioned will work if you do it accurately and keep going and don’t stop.

work out your BMR, decide on a deficit and track your calories in and out. Lift heavy, get your steps in and decrease your calories.

easiest thing to do is decide on how many calories you are going to eat, how much cardio, how much you are going to work out and how many steps you are going to take. An increase over what is maintaining or gaining weight now and a decrease in calories. Weigh and measure yourself, try your new calories and exercises for two weeks and weigh and measure again. If you aren’t losing weight you then either decrease calories or increase activity. Give it another week and review again. Focus on eating whole foods, have the recommended fibre and protein amounts and learn some easy meals that fit your life. Aim to lose 0.5-1lb a week, make it a deal with yourself to do this forever.

invest in accurate food scales, track everything you consume and be very careful with oils and fats, they can easily make a big difference! Spray oil (not fry light) is your friend.

Iloveeverycat · 06/08/2025 19:56

How long did you stick to them. I just cut out sugar switched to skimmed milk. No biscuits, cake choc, crisps, snacks. No exercise. Lost 13lb in 3 months. It's coming off slowly but it's coming off.

beAsensible1 · 06/08/2025 19:58

75 hard worked for me.

when I really want to maximise I do 2 workouts a day. Cardio and strength or cardio and stretch.

30ish minute run or spin then weights, hyrox or yoga.

one at 6am and one at 7/7.30
first few weeks are knackering till you find your rhythms.

rest day is walking and yoga or Pilates.

once the 75 days are over I drop to 1 a day with the occasional 2 if my schedule allows and lots of cycling walking.

it’s completely changed my lifestyle and energy levels. Next is cut back on the sugar!

Looneytune253 · 06/08/2025 20:00

Literally, I've tried EVERYTHING and got bigger and bigger over the years. WLI has been life changing. Absolutely worth it

TeflonMom · 06/08/2025 20:00

Only thing that works for me is running 3x a week, low carb and intermittent fasting. I’ve lost two stone since 1st Jan.

FurForksSake · 06/08/2025 20:03

For clarity, I am in WLI and have been for nearly a year. I’ve lost 5.5st and will stay on long term until I feel confident I can manage without it. It was definitely worth it for me.

but if you don’t want to or can’t, then staying consistent and focusing on very slow weight loss is the way to go.

MadKittenWoman · 06/08/2025 20:08

Did you do Keto properly? I don’t see how you can’t have lost weight if you were keeping to your macros. Join the Fast 800 Keto programme.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 06/08/2025 20:12

After years of slowly gaining weight I’ve managed to lose over 3 stone intermittent fasting. 16 hour fasting daily, eating in an 8 hour window.

I miss breakfast and start my day with lunch and evening meal. I’ve also cut out snacking and I focus on high protein, vegetable rich diet so a huge change from my previous high fat beige diet!

I’m a health BMI now and maintaining but really, not much has changed from when I was losing. I do eat out and do drink wine but moderate everything and I avoid sugar because I know I feel better without it. This is my life now, if I let my habits slip I will gain again which I really don’t want.

I do go to the gym regularly now and am focusing on weight training and building strength as that makes me feel so much better and it helps me stick to my diet.

It hasn’t been easy but something clicked and I started losing and seeing the change in my shape compelled me to continue. Previous diets, I haven’t lasted until lunchtime on day one!

Mathsdebator · 06/08/2025 20:13

If you're not keen on jabs calorie counting (properly) is the only way really. You need to know your TDEE, your deficit and stick to it.

I'm jabbing - and I'm saving money as I'm not buying shit food. I've just been away in an All Inclusive holiday and lost weight while I was away!

AutumnChild99 · 06/08/2025 20:18

As others have said, it needs to be sustainable - that's why 'diets' never work, because you put it all back on. And I'm not sure about those jabs - surely you have to be on them for life?
What do you normally eat? I would recommend starting your meal with a big salad (with only a drizzle of olive oil and/or vinegar), very little processed food, cook from scratch wherever possible. It doesn't have to be gourmet - something simple will do. Wholegrains instead of white bread/pasta etc - e.g. oats for breakfast - pulses/anything that's as close to natural as possible; do not add sugar to anything. Lots and lots of fruit and vegetables.

Losing weight is mainly about what you eat but exercising - mainly weights training and HIIT rather than steady state cardio - will help your metabolism and make you feel better about yourself. Good luck.

Fuzzypinetree · 06/08/2025 20:18

I'm doing intermittent fasting and take DD for a 40-minute walk in her pushchair once a day. It's quite hilly where we live...
I've lost 2 stone since May. It also means I don't have to worry too much about occasionally going out for food. I just go back to intermittent fasting the next day.
I'm not too strict with it, either. So I'll have a cup of tea with milk in the morning. I do try and be mindful what I eat and the portion size.
Keeps my food bill down and I don't even have to waste that money on WLI. 🤷‍♀️

I've lost nearly 4 stone since giving birth a year ago...

FurForksSake · 06/08/2025 20:24

@AutumnChild99 The aim for most with wli is to fix the relationship with food and learn how to follow a good routine with food with the absence of food noise and cravings and without the usual hunger. If you eat smaller portions of the foods that made you gain weight and don’t learn ways to manage the reasons you gain weight it will not work long term. Many people will stay in them, I plan to for at least the medium term and that’s fine.

Ok, yes many people put weight back on after stopping WLIs. The same percentage of people who put weight back on after stopping ANY diet. This is not a new phenomenon or exclusive to WLIs, it is a common occurrence following weight loss by ANY method.

So everyone who loses weight, by any method is at risk of putting that weight back on. Does that mean that everyone should just give up and resign themselves to that fate rather than try?
