Bloody bastard weight loss

Shabang21 · 06/08/2025 19:42

Help please!

I’m so bloody sick of feeling like shit, being constantly tired, aching, jumping from one weight loss thing to another and literally getting NOWHERE. Besides stapling my mouth shut, what can I do? I look around and SO MANY people are dropping weight by the tonne, they surely can’t all be on weight loss jabs, cos they’re so expensive?

I have tried; Keto, slim fast, exante, slimming world, weight watchers, fast 800, calorie counting. It starts promising ish, but nothing seems to stick?

So please, let me know what worked for you, and if it’s even worth bothering now; I’ve been trying to shift weight for 15 years, all I’ve done is got heavier and I’m so sick of this shit!!

I have a very similar relationship to food as you seem to have OP. I love food, I'm a good cook, I eat for pleasure and also if stressed.

I've just started on Ozempic, inspired by a friend who said it 'turned off the food noise' she's stopped snacking, eating when bored stressed or celebrating - all things I do.

The cost is a factor too - why spend all this money and then eat chocolate? I feel I've made this committment now, I've told a few friends, and I'm hopeful, it does seem to work for a lot of people.

I'm giving it 3 months - if it doesn't work, then back to Slimming World - I did drop a stone before, the weekly weigh in spurred me on, but I felt like I was actively 'on a diet' the whole time, it didn't become a lifestyle. If I have to be actively dieting to avoid the yo yo dieting cycle then so be it.

I probably should have gone on WLI last year, I felt it was a bit weak, surely I should have betterbself control etc, but I'm still fat, facing mid-50s, can't buy a wardrobe in yet another size, and it's not healthy.

Roseblooms7 · 07/08/2025 10:39

But when you stop taking them, the weight piles on again.

No when you stop taking them and start eating shit the weight piles on again. Like any diet you have to change your mindset.

That's so frustrating, and it's a very boring journey.

How much weight do you have to lose.

In my opinion diets aren't the answer. Neither are weight lost jabs. I saw yet another article in the paper today. But when you stop taking them, the weight piles on again.

Diets really don't work, and it's so hard to stick at the only way to do it is sticking to a healthier eating plan for life.

What are your weaknesses. Mine are sweets and chocolate

A healthier eating plan for life is a diet surely? Any diet you’re supposed to stay on!

Of course they're all on the jabs.

Actually some of us are losing weight without the jabs.

I've lost 3 stone so far but still have another 4 to go. I'm trying to address my mental health and emotional eating issues but it is tough.

Will I use the jabs if I can't lose it without.

I'll consider it but I'm really hoping to do it without otherwise I'm not going to get over my issues of emotional eating.

Some people have always managed to lose weight without the jabs, but OP was referring to everyone around her suddenly losing tons of weight.

In every film or TV programme recently, people who've been big for years suddenly aren't so big (also, some people who've always been small are smaller).

Obviously they're all on the jabs.

I'm not judging, I think GLP-1s are a great thing. We live in an impossibly obesogenic environment and medication to control it was inevitable.

@Shabang21 really doesn't need to wring her hands in despair and wonder how everyone else is doing it.

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 07/08/2025 11:39

Thanks. It sounds like quite an odd feeling I can't fully imagine- to not fancy Viennetta or something so extremely appetising if it's sitting there in the freezer! So it stops taunting you? That sounds great.

My other question if it's OK to ask is about having the energy to exercise. I love weights, running, climbing, all that. If you are eating less with these jabs, do you get affected in your workouts by lack of glycogen stores or whatever, or is it like the keto diet where you can adapt to different energy sources? I do fasted cardio most mornings but would be worried about "bonking" if I hadn't had that late night sandwich the night before. Thanks again for your insights.

BadActingParsley · 07/08/2025 12:00

I've lost a stone and a half in my 50s relatively easily - I still have a stone to go.

My sister lost 8 stone over 2 years - no weight loss jabs.

We both went back to basics with food. More protein, so breakfast with eggs and sourdough toast.

Lunch is a salad with beans, or lentils, or some form of protein.

Apple or banana if I need a snack.

Dinner is protein, carbs and lots of veg. So last night was baby potatoes, chicken marinated in soy, honey, lemon juice and a bit of garlic oil and cut in cubes and done in airfryer. Home made coleslaw, some roasted veg and a tomato salsa. There's leftovers for lunch today.

I stay fuller longer and am far less likely to snack. I've also cut out random cheese after my dinner and random wine. If the weight starts to creep upwards I cut the random stuff out.

I'm also walking more.

This feels sustainable - if slow.

Absolutely this!!
Yes you’re going to get lots of appetite and food noise for a month when you come off it, but hopefully you’ve learned new habits and fill up with healthy, long lasting foods rather than crap.

LadyKryze · 07/08/2025 13:03

I have a low carb diet/lifestyle. I'm not perfect with it and when I fall into bad eating habits I put weight on- I am currently trying to lose 2 stone. However, I see it that this way of eating is my normal lifestyle not the eat and drink what I like way. So I am back to eating 'normally' and the weight should come off. I don't see it as just a means to lose weight but as the best way to eat. I have always struggled with my weight and know I will always have to be mindful about what I eat and drink. I think that's just the reality of it.

I did Mounjaro last year. Lost 12kg in 4 months and then got horrific gall stones and had to stop immediately add I was so very ill. Having to go cold turkey has destroyed my capacity for self control and my appetite is now wiser than it’s ever been before. I regained all of the weight and then some extra. I’m very lucky though as after 3 years going through the nys weight management, I got a call yesterday saying I’ve got a last minute surgical spot for a gallstone removal and a roux en y bypass surgery…. Would I like to have it done next week? Absolutely yes I would. So now doing a 6 day liver reduction diet as luckily my BMI is under 40 and then hopefully will never have gall stone pain again AND I’ll be a manageable weight as well. Really hoping it improves my auto immune issues as well.

Sympathies, I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, very quickly, and I ended up with terrible gallbladder pain as a result. It's annoying because excess weight can cause gallstones, but so can weight loss!

I hope your surgeries go well.

Hankunamatata · 07/08/2025 13:34

Im the same as you. Iv had most success with slimming world for taking weight off and keeping it off - not attending group lead to weight going back on as I thought I didnt need it any more
This time around iv found an amazing consultant, very different from other sw groups iv tried. He is super sensible, talks about portion size, eating only until you are full, importance of water. Won't let people talk about gimmick foods or gets into negative spirals about their weekends. And biggest thing doesnt go around each person and ask their weight. He just give a general informative talk.
I was sceptical about food diary but he had me write down everything i ate just before I ate it and it really did work. I could also see my eating weighting - too many syns compared to fruit and veg etc.
My weight loss has not been fast but I can see its a way of eating i can easily maintain.

Shabang21 · 07/08/2025 14:05

Thank you all again, so so much.

So I’m feeling slightly more positive today and less self -defeatist. I’ve downloaded a calorie app which tells me exactly how much of a deficit I need to get to where I need to be. I’m giving it a month, and if I get nowhere I’m going to budget for the WLI. I spoke to husband about it yesterday evening, and it went as expected. as he would rather I spend £120 a month on alcohol/food out/gig's than me not getting diabetes and being pain constantly, I pointed out that I also have another idea that would shed me of 11stone overnight…. 😁

Thanks again all, I really appreciate it

I cant remember if its this thread or another one where I have made the point that the word diet has simply now been replaced with 'healthy lifestyle changes'

It means diet, its the same thing, not quite sure why there is this desire to not use that word, why?

RhaenysRocks · 08/08/2025 08:17

I mean really, the word "diet" just means what you eat. My son exists on a diet of waffles and fishfingers and cereal. It's what he eats. An eating plan or weight loss plan or muscle building plan is when you actually devise a specific set of meals for a particular goal.

StMarie4me · 08/08/2025 08:21

MadKittenWoman · 06/08/2025 20:08

Did you do Keto properly? I don’t see how you can’t have lost weight if you were keeping to your macros. Join the Fast 800 Keto programme.

Keto worked for me until it didn’t. Now I struggle to lose weight on it. So frustrating.

I never got on well with it. The first time I tried was the most successful (not just the initial water weight but a further stone); after that, the keto flu effects actually seemed to be more pronounced. Some people respond a lot better than others. At the end of the day you have to remember the reason it works is that you are eating lower calories overall, and if you can achieve that while eating carbs and feeling less like shite warmed up, then so much the better.🤷🏽‍♀️

I am still searching for a way of eating that lets me gently lose fat, retain muscle and exercise hard. Seems I can have 2/3.

Yes, your 'diet' is what you eat, your dietary intake

'A diet' is what people commonly refer to when they're trying to lose weight, which will involve a calorie deficit.

People can call it 'lifestyle changes' if they like, but it amounts to the same thing, cutting out a number of calories in order to lose weight and then amending that intake as part of their normal everyday diet to maintain the weight once they get there.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 08/08/2025 09:29

Drastically cut your intake and do lots of exercise.
