No.

FloraBotticelli · 04/08/2025 19:05

No

Stichintime · 04/08/2025 19:10

No. Cuddly toys are not usually that expensive, I wouldn't give second hand.

HiCandles · 04/08/2025 19:13

If you mean it's actually brand new with tag or in box, but bought on Vinted rather than the original shop, that's fine. But actually used, no, unless it's something very coveted by the parent and you have asked them first if they'd be ok with that.

IceCreamWoes · 04/08/2025 19:14

Meh, I'd have been fine with that, but maybe I shouldn't have been 😬

LeedsZebra90 · 04/08/2025 19:15

Second hand like it's been passed down by a family member, great. Otherwise I'd say no.

deeahgwitch · 04/08/2025 19:15

No I wouldn’t give a second hand, bought on Vinted soft toy to a new born.,

yeesh · 04/08/2025 19:17

Nope

ThejoyofNC · 04/08/2025 19:18

My opinion is probably invalid because I wouldn't use anything at all second hand for my newborn, but no.

pinksky78 · 04/08/2025 19:19

Nope

earlymorningwakeup · 04/08/2025 19:21

Depends really if it’s a vintage / collectors item? My daughters were gifted lots of silver cross rag dolls - discontinued so you can only obtain second / third hand and I was fine about it

Or vintage Disney - quality of the modern soft toys is crap compared to the ones from 20 years ago
or vintage Paddington bears or steiff etc all fine

coxesorangepippin · 04/08/2025 19:24

Ouf

Nope

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 04/08/2025 19:27

I would. I'm sure many on here wouldn't because it might be stuffed with drugs, dipped in covid, or some other strange reason

JMSA · 04/08/2025 19:29

I wouldn’t do it but if for some reason it was unavoidable (?!), I’d pop it in the machine in one of those mesh laundry bags.

avocadotofu · 04/08/2025 19:30

No!

Why waste money when they just grow? There are some lovely newborn clothes in charity shops. It's pointless buying new when they grow/be sick etc...

BertieBotts · 04/08/2025 19:33

To receive? I would be grateful the person had thought of me but if I wasn't comfortable then I'd just put it aside - a newborn doesn't need to interact with a soft toy anyway. It might have ended up part of their collection later on or it might have ended up donated. TBH this is what I did with all the soft toys MIL sent from her mould/smoke/flea infested house Blush but we kept DH's childhood teddy.

To give? I would only do this if there was a specific reason for getting a toy that way e.g. if it was a retired model which had a particular sentimental meaning between me and the child's parent.

I did buy second hand soft toys for my kids even when they were newborn, so I'm not opposed to it as a practice.

Same here. It's frowned upon on here to not buy second hand everything for your child but being someone who grew up in constant hand me downstairs, I'm not doing that to my ds. He has brand new everything and I have zero guilt about it. OP for something as cheap new as a teddy then I'd be pissed if someone did this to me

Mimsykins · 04/08/2025 19:35

Definitely not and I love Vinted!

Rosesandteashops · 04/08/2025 19:39

I'm a big fan of second-hand bargains but I wouldn't give a second-hand teddy to a newborn.

ResidentPorker · 04/08/2025 19:42

It’s fine.

Thefaceofboe · 04/08/2025 19:42

I think a cheap random teddy is a bit odd, a jellycat is maybe different as they are expensive and a lot are retired.

Same here, I don’t see spending money on my children as pointless or wasting it, they deserve nice things.

PennyAnnLane · 04/08/2025 19:43

I wouldn’t accept a second hand teddy for a newborn, it would go in the bin and I would think less of the person who bought it.

For someone who shops in charity shops, you can find 'nice things' in there. There are some lovely children's clothes in charity shops. Give them a wash and they're as good as new.
