Indeed you have the choice to accept or refuse entry of any item into your home. I am not sure that is a gendered thing.

Marcipix · 06/08/2025 22:39

No and I would bin it.

She doesn't think it has bed bugs, she just doesn't want it because it's second hand and there is a miniscule possibility it might have bed bugs Confused but clothes are fine 🤷‍♀️

Not sure why knowing a house would make you more aware of potential bug contamination, it's not like they hold up a sign announcing their presence.

what im trying to say is if you have a thought process of thinking you might not keep something due to bed bugs (ops the one who brought this up not me) then you dont turn around and say ill give it to charity lol. You'd bin it. If I dont want to risk it for myself then im not risking it for others. Thats my point lol. I think op was trying to pass comment to not open herself up to criticism by mentioning bed bugs and charity shop because you're 100 per cent right... she doesn't think it has bed bugs, shes talking nonsense.

If you're not willing to spend time removing stains then you're just as wasteful.

🤣 Priceless response! Lol

Sorry I’m derailing here - does it need to be soaked or anything, or just literally hung up dry in the sun?!

Most stains held under cold running water should disappear.

😂😂😂 oh, op give it up please!!! Go and check your inventory or something fun like that!!

Lol i think everything my dd has ever owned has been 2nd hand from charity shops. Future ds is also fully 2nd hand when he arrives. Some people are just snobs. Providing the item in question isnt damaged or dirty theres no issue. No wonder theres a landfill crisis happening.

I’m a half and half sort of mum. There are some things I want brand new and there are some things I’d happily use second hand. I love Vinted for outfits that would cost £20 that I get for a £5.
I am really funny with things like bottles, toys, dummies, especially teethers. I don’t think I could have used a second hand next to me crib or Moses.

Thats fair enough i understand some things people arent comfortable with. Both my kids have/had 2nd hand next to me cribs, cots and moses baskets, clothes, toys. The only real new things they got was towels and dummys.

Didimum · 07/08/2025 20:47

Yes. Consumerism is disgustingly wasteful. Re-use as much as possible. Not one harm will come to the newborn.

My opinion is probably invalid because I wouldn't use anything at all second hand for my newborn, but no.

I agree

DelphiniumDoreen · 07/08/2025 21:33

If they had washed it before gifting I wouldn’t be offended. In fact, I would be glad they had bought second hand.

Look up a company called Loved Before. They’re on Instagram. It’s seriously eye opening to see how damaging all those NEW little teddies are because so many that go to charities actually end up in landfill.
