To think most men wouldn’t survive a year living the life of an average woman?

The daily grind of sexism, safety worries, juggling expectations, emotional labour… Most men have no idea. AIBU to think they’d crumble under the load if they had to swap lives with us for a year?

Apparently it’s fine to neglect your kids as long as you are at home with them.
If you dare to try to provide for them financially then you’re abusing them.

Make that make sense!!

Have a read about some of royal family and their experiences of pricey boarding schools- money often far from equals being emotionally nurtured.

I also don’t appreciate lazy stereotypes again lower income parents. I know many single Mums of 4-7 children who are either SAHMs or claim benefits who haven’t bought themselves any new clothes in ten years, but their children are always in the correct sized shoes, warm Winter coats, etc. They give whatever they have to their children over themselves, and I respect that.

So what? I know of my ex husbands children. They are neglected. They don't have shoes that are waterproof and their clothes are too small. It's not a stereotype, it's what my aunt who works in the local school sees on daily basis. Neglected children. They are always unhappy children who are quite often struggling at schools and have emotional difficulties. It's heartbreaking to see. Their parents are failing them.

Well it doesn’t sound like the pp’s ex that you labelled a good man has taken a leaf out of their book. And seven kids? Where do you live? Utah?

God it's like trying to have a conversation with a politician, why can't you just answer any questions?

Unloved rich children do not make neglect acceptable. Why would it?

My waste of space father has 7 kids to 3 different women, and doesn’t look after any of them. Maybe she lives near him.

But that’s not what people are talking about is it?
We’re all just normal families making sure we have enough money to feed and clothe our kids. You’re saying it would be preferable for them to live in abject poverty than have a mum who works. Sorry but that is fucked up.

The BEST man, he worked for a bit, so that’s his good deeds done for life. He bought my stepmother a washing up bowl for Christmas one year too, so that’s having a dutiful wife ticked off too.

Top guy 🙏🏻

But they wouldn’t do it. We put the stress on ourselves. My husband does his side of the family, gifts and cards - no expectation on my. Because that’s how we roll. He collects the kids and drops them off and he steps up. My children have been raised the same. Why do we feel ‘a woman’s load is huge?’

I think you’re over simplifying lots of issues. Socialisation, patriarchy, different gender expectations, the menopause etc. Women don’t “put that on themselves”.

I hope to God it was something like:

‘As you’re aware it’s my resident knobheads birthday, please pretend to be interested and come to this place I’ve half heartedly booked for the man I don’t care about. Cheers, miserable wife.’

Otherwise, I’m gonna assume it wasn’t that bad considering she’d clearly planned something for him.

Do you spend much time worrying about other people’s husbands? I didn’t think that would be on the full time wife/mother rota!

I suspect it wasn’t deferential enough. I feel like she thinks we should worship men unconditionally.

UK- you couldn’t pay me to live in America! I detest their lack of maternity rights and gun culture.

There are genuinely many families on our school run who have 4-7 children of a spread of ages. Sometimes both parents are at home to fully meet the needs of the biggest families, often both on every school run. Everyone is very family friendly here thankfully, asks about each other’s children, looks out for each other’s children- thoroughly decent families. Lovely people.

On a serious note it's really important for women to actually see these conversations happening on a modern day forum, that is the only reason any of us are really still conversing with the Professional Housewife.

Women need to know that their fairly recently hard won rights, their freedom and their equality is not guaranteed or set in stone and there are many people, sadly women included, that want to take those things away from them. If women become complacent and think this isn't an issue and there's no work left to do because the battle is won, people like the Professional Housewife will carry on unchecked and if it's not kept in check we could find ourselves in the same position a lot of American women are in now where there rights are being rescinded and they are going backwards.

As for my angry ranting posts @ThankYouNigel , you bet I'm angry. As an actual good mother, one that wants my daughter to have a better life than I have had, I will always fight for her rights and for her to know she is never less than a man and should never accept being treated like she is by a husband or society. My life is great now, I've overcome all of the difficulties I faced due to being a woman and came out the other side but I don't want her to have to face those difficulties at all. She deserves equal health care where women's health is researched as much as mens and her pain is taken as seriously as her husband's. She deserves a husband who respects her and doesn't expect her to clean up after him. She deserves to have the right and freedom to pursue her own ambitions. I fight for my daughter and all the other girls who will one day be women and deserve better than women get now. I will never stop fighting for my daughter.

Oh and I bet you are also financially dependent on your DH- if he left tomorrow, I’d bet my house that you couldn’t survive on your own without him on your own earnings as an individual. Most can’t, but like to feel superior for working any token amount of hours. Most of the hours my friends who do work covers a few holidays etc and is a drop in the ocean compared to what their DH’s cover- still financially dependent factually 😂

What a sad post. It's such a shame in this day and age that you can't conceive of a woman being able to support herself. I know loads of women who are perfectly capable of standing on their own two feet. As for me, I have always been the higher earner in any case. I like it that way...far better to be in a relationship out of choice rather than because I can't afford to leave.

So there's families where there are 7 children, both parents are unemployed to look after all those kids and aren't earning a penny for their keep?

Good grief! No wonder the country is bankrupt! And you respect that? But don't respect the government subsidising child care so that women can work and prove for their children?

What is actually wrong with you?

I cannot wait for your daughter to grow up and decide for herself she wants to join the growing number of housewives…then she really can begin living her best life! We’re only just getting started 😉

These larger families are taking on more than their fair share of providing the necessary number of children to slow the impending crisis of an ageing population which growing numbers of adults are contributing to by entirely opting out of their civic responsibility to have children. So yeah, given plenty of adults aren’t pulling their weight at all and boast on about being ‘child free’, thank goodness we still have some selfless enough to dedicate themselves to raising 7 children. They are true grafters.
