I caught one today. Have no idea who she is and asked her why she’s doing it. She responded she didn’t do it, I then showed her my ring doorbell. She looks about 12 I think.

The Mum thinks it’s completely harmless. I explained there are millions of other games she could play that didn’t involve disturbing her neighbours

I think you should hose them down with sugar water or something sticky. Will teach them a lesson. Yanbu, this isn’t a funny game and I wouldn’t let my kids do this.

Kids have been doing it for decades and decades. It’s as old as the hills. How have you never heard of it (or indeed done it!)?!?

Obviously it comes with the risk of being caught and shouted at by irate homeowners! That’s sort of part of it. They need to be faster and avoid houses with ring doorbells! 😂😉

It obviously is “naughty” behaviour, and I certainly wouldn’t have told my DC to go and do it, but if a child did it to me, I’d tell them off but have a secret laugh about it when they were gone! Tbh I’d just be pleased that some children were actually playing out! The streets and parks are completely dead around here. So depressing.

You may be fine with it, but what if you'd escaped a violent relationship and were terrified he'd find you, leaping at any loud noise? What if you had dementia, or mental health issues? What if you'd been in a warzone and had PTSD? What if you were disabled and found it difficult or painful to get up and get to the door? Would you find it so hilarious then? I suppose I don't really find the idea of vulnerable people cowering in fear while ill-bred little shits harass and persecute them as being terribly funny. Must just be me. And the police. Who do think it's pretty serious.
