Not everyone on me is from or lives in the uk…

Yabberwok · 31/07/2025 22:34

So what. Yes it can be a bit middle class at times. But personally I worked bloody hard to get so rich... buying Mayfair was a good start but the water works proved invaluable

😂 It's amazing isn't it, how people in these high pressure 'top jobs' on £100K or more a year, have so much spare time on their hands to post on Mumsnet?!

LOADS of them will pop up on this thread soon. Grin

So jealous you had to start a thread about it?

Minfilia · 31/07/2025 22:40

I don’t, but 3 of my circle do, so it’s really not that usual in my world. 4% of the population is probably still a fairly high number.

Meh, my husband is on the board of a FTSE 100 company!

I agree. 4 in every hundred is a lot of people.

A thread about people unable to work due to disability will soon find others in the same position - that position might be only 4 in 100 too.

R0ckandHardPlace · 31/07/2025 22:43

The last I heard Bob Geldof is doing a concert for the poor buggers.

Just give them the fucking money!!!
Not millionaire BG.. not his money to help...that's no good....its other people's money is what's needed!

bindin · 31/07/2025 22:46

Well this is based on PAYE? so more than that will earn 100k but obviously a lot of fantasists on the internet too.

bindin · 31/07/2025 22:47

I agree. 4 in every hundred is a lot of people.

The vast majority will still be men though....

teksquad · 31/07/2025 22:50

Only 4% of the UK working people has a base salary of over 100K? That seems low. Many professional jobs are about that now, and that doenst really go that far in the South these days (tiny violins, I know). Also does that include people who inherit 100K (easily done now woth property) but dont work?

Sesma · 31/07/2025 22:52

A lot of them will be on the telly

Kitte321 · 31/07/2025 22:55

I imagine if you include 99,999 you’ll find a fair few more! 🤷‍♀️

Angrymum22 · 31/07/2025 22:57

I don’t earn over 100K but if I worked full time I would. I just chose a different work life balance so I enjoy 6 day weekends and have loads of time for MN.

InterIgnis · 31/07/2025 23:01

I do, as passive income, so I have the luxury of wasting as much or as little time on mumsnet as I feel like. Granted, I’m also not in the U.K.

bindin · 31/07/2025 23:02

No but most people won't inherit 100k annually.

Well it will be higher because this is likely based on PAYE but salaries are low here and many professional jobs do not in fact pay 100k.

That's nice for him. What do you earn?
Can't abide it when people wear their spouse's rank.

ladykale · 31/07/2025 23:15

Almost all senior people in professional services in the south will earn that. Will defo be skewed to the south imagine. More than 50% of my personal circles likely earn that (at least one of couples I mean)

bindin · 31/07/2025 23:17

I think only about 160k women earn over 6 figures which is surprisingly small.

OtherS · 31/07/2025 23:24

Would guess how many you encounter very much depends on where you live. Where I am, significantly more than 4% of the population are on £100k. Where my aunt lives (a regular on the 'best places to live' lists), I'd guess probably not even 1%. And where my grandparents lived, I'd guess maybe 1 person, if that.

Not even necessary to be that senior. A going rate for mid range IT contractor is 500/day so you can easily get 100k by only working 40 full weeks a year.

I'm not sure why it's so surprising that MN has higher proportion of high earners - MN tends to attract better educated and older demographics, it's not unreasonable to expect this group to earn well. Just look at S&B, holidays or private schools threads.

OP opened this thread looking for validation of (her??) belief that earning 100k+ is very rare. This is the first and the highest barrier to achieve such package. You can't get there if you don't believe it's possible.

ETA to agree with above posted - I'm in London and don't know too many people in my professional or social circle who earn less than this.

The clue in MIDDLE class, is uhm, quite obvious, and yet you somehow equate this to the TOP 4% of earners. No wonder there's so much bollocks on here.

cofffeeee · 31/07/2025 23:37

I earn enough to live on dirt poor to mumsnet.
But im much happier than some i read about.
