Podcasts are Annoying

Its just radio 📻 😌
Don't get me started on every celeb and his dog starting one.
Also I assume most of them wouldn't make much money from doing it?
It's just a hobby. Some have so few listeners.
BBC Sounds are happy though to toss money at literally any Z list celeb to make one.
To think I used to admire the BBC compared to ITV etc..

Ah OK I don't listen to the radio really.

Netcurtainnelly · 03/08/2025 18:04

Never get time to listen to one.

Great thing about them, you can listen whilst you do other things ha. Posting on MN , for example 😬

You know when you logged on to mumsnet and started posting @Netcurtainnelly …,.

Definitely agree. I'll never understand why there's so much demand to listen to people prattling on, usually about incredibly tedious subjects.

I suppose it's a bit like the blogging craze of the early 2000s, when we all had unlimited internet access and everybody and their dog had a blog, thinking that they were suitably interesting for large numbers of people to want to read them.

But while writing (and particularly good writing) is a genuine skill, podcasting doesn't really require any - and that's probably why there's so damn many of them now.

Who is tying you down and blasting them at you? They sound annoying.

I like podcasts but considering the pod part of the name originally came from ipod - they're meant to be consumed individually. Or, you know, not.

I do find it annoying when a podcast maker thinks they are on a radio show and does any or all of the following:

Has a pointlessly long intro explaining what their podcast is and what they are going to talk about. Just fucking talk about it then! If I've got this far I've probably read the description!

Instructs people to "stay tuned" Hmm

Keeps interrupting the flow to recap what's already been said and summarise what's coming up. Again. Nobody is starting from halfway through! This is especially annoying if it bulks out 15 mins of content to half an hour or so. Just a waste of my time. Have a short podcast and cut the waffle, or a long one where you actually get to the interesting part of the conversation.

And then my last pet peeve is boring and completely irrelevant segments like you'll have an interesting podcast and then randomly they'll have a segment where they review a biscuit recipe of the week or something. I don't care! If I wanted to listen to a podcast about recipes, I'd look for that.

Oooh I agree with you so much about the 'telling you what's coming' and 'in the last episode ' , in the next episode.
So now I know what been , what's here and what's to come , ffs just get on with it !

Does anyone else have issues with downloading from bbc sounds when it's 10 or more episodes ?
I like to down load a full series all at once but every time it's 10 or more it always puts episode 10 between 1 and 2 .
Even if I download 1 to 9 then wait a few hrs to download 10 it still puts it in the wrong place 🤔

Edited

But there are tons of well-written podcasts on just about any subject imaginable, so you don't have to listen to people prattle or listen to them talk about tedious subjects. You find good podcasts about things you're interested in, just like you do when choosing books to read or films and TV shows to watch.

If it's a current BBC podcast, then chances are it will be on most of the other podcast providers like Pocketcasts, and it's generally easier to download them all on one of those platforms. The BBC Sounds app is awful.

It sounds like it's sorting them alphabetically.

I don’t really like them either.

ds listens to them

i prefer music

Mokel · 05/08/2025 16:07

I like British Murders
Sliced Bread/Toast. Sliced Bread is a podcast about the latest fads are the worth it or complete bs. Toast is about companies that once were big and now no longer exist.

I really don't get the point of podcasts. They invariably start with a load of boring rambling about random life events pertaining to the podcaster before the podcaster even starts on whatever it was they are podcasting about.

I avoid all of them now.

Well, bad ones do. A suggestion. Don’t listen to bad ones!
