Immigration population up another 700k

1000 replies

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:35

I understand that this country needs immigration but if you import 100,000s of low skilled workers, in their 30s and 40s, how are they going to fund their retirement or pay for their housing?

It just seems counterintuitive to bring loads of people into this country who will need considerable financial support ( housing benefits, pension credits) when they are no longer able to work, and don’t have the means to support themselves.

Thats your opinion and I disagree

Multiculturalism has made Britain stronger, not weaker.

It has brought in essential workers for the NHS, care homes, transport, hospitality, construction, and more. Immigrants have kept public services going when there weren’t enough British-born workers to fill the gaps.

It has filled labour shortages, grown the economy, and added billions in tax revenue every year. Immigrants are more likely to be working-age, which helps fund pensions and social care in an ageing population.

Multicultural communities have opened businesses, created jobs, and revived struggling high streets. They’ve introduced new food, new music, new festivals, and new ways of thinking that are now part of everyday British life.

Children in multicultural schools grow up more tolerant, more aware, and better prepared for a global world. Our universities and research institutions are stronger because of international students and academics.

Multiculturalism hasn’t harmed British identity. It is British identity now. British culture isn’t static — it’s always changed and evolved. The UK without multiculturalism would be poorer, older, and stuck in the past.

So you've never benefited from anything from another culture? Never enjoyed a curry, supported a diverse football team, watched a carnival, needed an emergency hospital appointment, benefited from a clean street, If you enjoy the benefits of modern Britain, you’re already living the result of multiculturalism and immigration whether you admit it or not. You can't erase the diversity that has shaped us.

Multiethnic is a good thing to have. I don't think many people have an issue with that.

Multicultural (attitudes to women, FGM, gays etc. Sharia law) not so good.

It's a numbers issue mainly, I think. Numbers and a requirement to support many financially.

awkwardasfuck · 04/08/2025 08:01

Quirkswork · 04/08/2025 07:23

You've missed the main point of the whole issue. We are a small island that cannot cope with a vast influx of people. People that havent contributed and that often need other people (the taxpayer) to support them financially.

No one cares about your wife. And it's offense to suggest the majority of people have a "a fear of the other". It's counterproductive to your argument for a start and just winds people up because it's not true.

@OneFunBrickNewtwe do care about your wife and we celebrate you both, ignore the nasty comments

The fear of the other will hopefully remain as the vocal 2% of racists out in the streets trying to set fire to other human beings because their lack of intelligence and their laziness isn't to blame for them being behind in life, the nearest brown person is, apparently.

Its incredibly unoriginal and they should be embarrassed....'Daily Fail, Daily Heil' etc. Pathetic. Yet they often post links from the Mail while apologising profusely

Don't go bananas with your "racist" insults and just stop and think for a moment what you are saying.

You and the PP are lumping his poor wife in (who has assimilated and made a contribution to the Uk) with all the men coming over on the boats (who haven't). Like one big homogenous lump of people. Just because of her skin colour.

I'd suggest that is a bigoted approach.

His wife should also have a problem with large swathes of unknown people coming in. She lives here. Presumably shes a tax payer too. Presumably she wants to be safe. Or is she part of the problem, which is what you seem to be saying.

No one "cares" about his wife as no one has a problem with someone who doesn't cause any problems.

What you’re calling “multiethnic” is actually culture — things like food, language, tradition, and community life. And what you’re calling “multicultural” is actually ideology = specific belief systems or practices, some of which are extreme and harmful.

Most immigrants don’t bring extremist ideologies with them, they’re often escaping them. Refugees, in particular, are fleeing things like religious law, anti-women attitudes, and violence against LGBTQ people.

Multiculturalism, at its core, means people from different backgrounds living together under shared laws and values. It doesn’t mean tolerating abuse or oppression. British society has laws in place to deal with those harms and many of the people you’re concerned about are fighting them too, from inside their own communities.

You don't understand the difference between multi ethnic and multi cultural. We are a multi ethnic society but we have one culture. The British culture which is based on one law for everyone.

Your argument means that no one who is ethnically not British can ever be actually British. Because they will never be part of the British culture.

Which is a load of rubbish.

That's such a non-answer.

No actually- you can be both. I am.

Not rubbish and you'd do well to slow down and stop jumping down people's throats.

Ethnicity is fixed. Culture is not. It's simple.

I too am multi ethnic, technically. I expect loads of us are. But I have one culture as I am British.

I know it suits you to accuse the whole of the UK of racisim, Awkward. But most people aren't. The problem of mass immigration cannot be explained away as "racisim". It's not. It's for other very important reasons that affect every single one of us and our children. And jumping up and down squealing racist at anyone that is concerned is doing everyone a disservice. Including anyone who is not white. We are all the same.

I didnt say everyone was racist- at any point. Most people i am lucky to have in my life are not. A few that I am forced to deal with here and there very much are and the comments are vile.

But racism is a huge problem and its very obvious to those of us that aren't.

Do people actually believe this fantasy?

The economic claims are the biggest delusion.

We've increased the population by 10 million this century, we should be in great shape according to the migrants make us rich dogma but the exact opposite is true.

Struggling high streets "revived" with Turkish barbers and nail bars laundering drug money and kebab shops and takeaways slitting animals throats out the back and raping children upstairs all protected by labour councils and the police.

As you say, the result of multi culturalism.

No one normal agrees with racisim. Britain has always been a pretty tolerant society compared to the rest of the world and that is simply a fact. But that tolerance is being tried due to numbers not ethnicity. And also bad cultures growing in this country (such as the ones I've mentioned). Tolerance of bigoted views like homophobia is intolerant.

Whoa, at no point has PP accused the whole of the UK of racism, and PP is not jumping up and down squealing (which is a pretty nasty way of putting it), and PP is ignoring the nasty, patronising and childish way you keep biting at them.

If you can't debate politely, then your arguments just look like tantrums.

British culture whether you like it or not is famous for being a mix of cultures from all over the world and most of us are very proud of that.

Any evidence for that? or just your opinion?

Between 2010 and 2024, the time to trial for an alleged rapist went from less than 12 months to 4 years.... victims drop out the justice system, rapists go free.

That's not very nice. And also a little hypocritical. I dont think being insulting depends on which side of the political spectrum you sit.

Actually the left have traditionally been far worse. But that's just my objective opinion.
