And dreading it….!!! Just tonight I notice it’s a lot darker and cooler and just a nip in the air. I know I know we could still get another heatwave and it’s been a stunning summer but I hate the feeling of summer ending it’s such an optimistic time spring into summer I’ve loved it esp this year with all the sunshine - even though I moaned about the heat the odd time!!!!

OP posts:
Wanderdust · 29/07/2025 22:57

I'm delighted it seems a little bit cooler but then again I am 9 months pregnant 😂

cardibach · 29/07/2025 22:58

It’s not even August. Don’t be daft.

notnorman · 29/07/2025 23:02

Yes, I can feel the nip in my joints!

WhatMe123 · 29/07/2025 23:03

Defo got darker at night quicker over the last week

As it always does a month on from the longest day.

Whilst it may sound unreasonable I had to put heating on for an hour tonight -to take the chill off the air - it’s rained most of day here and this house is Victorian which has stone walls always feels cool with a nip if it rains- lovely and cool on a hot day - not so much when it isn’t .

I put the heating on for an hour this morning. I’ve seen blackberries ripening, autumn leaves … it seems early but I can feel Autumn in the air.

Ducksurprise · 29/07/2025 23:06

I saw the start of old man's beard today.

Definitely noticed the darker nights already, it is still warm thankfully.

If I ruled the world we would live in perpetual June.

crookkkkk · 29/07/2025 23:09

Blackberries are about a month early here ..absolutely crazy.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 29/07/2025 23:11

Yes! I was saying this earlier - I think because we had such a hot May / June, and now it’s cooled down (felt autumnal when I took the dogs out this eve), plus all the shops brining out their autumn bits. Keep having to remind myself it’s only July! (Made a casserole today ffs 😅)

BogRollBOGOF · 29/07/2025 23:12

I normally notice it in mid-August, but by this stage of summer it often feels a bit "stuck" and inbetween. That first fresh flush of summer has passed and there's a bit of an awkward gap between fruits ripening and second bursts of blooms coming back for late summer.

Last week my garden was looking very bland and I ended up buying some annuals to put into pots around the borders to get some colour back.

Today was rather dull (but pleasantly mild) and I ended up putting lights on in the house an hour before sunset.

I'm glad we've had enough rain to get the grass verdant and get things growing again, but I hope that isn't it on sunshine.

AllTheTreesOfTheField · 29/07/2025 23:14

I much prefer Spring and Autumn to Summer. I expect this faux Autumn will pass and you'll get your Summer back soon! bah!

IAmQuiteNiceActually · 29/07/2025 23:14

It's a feeling isn't it? It's not really related to temperature - it's more to do with the light. And yes I've felt it....it's the best time of the year.

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/07/2025 23:14

I thought this today. Despite being warm, it felt damp and there are conkers and blackberries everywhere. I had washing out most of the day that didn’t dry fully. I’m in the southeast. The first week of the hols has been disappointing weather wise and I’m hoping we’ll get some more long term sunshine and warmth.

Perfectlystill · 29/07/2025 23:15

Agree. I see acorns and blackberries on my walks and had to out a jumper on today.

RosyappleA · 29/07/2025 23:18

I think it will heat up again. It seems to have happened in some countries in europe which are normally consistently hot. It went from 40 to 28 with rain within a day now some of my family are worried their beach holidays will be ruined the next couple of weeks.

Yes, I felt it on the breeze yesterday (I'm in NI) and it stopped me in my tracks. It feels too soon. Hopefully it's just faux autumn as previous poster wrote

TheSummerITurnedChubby · 29/07/2025 23:20

I really noticed it this evening - darker earlier, and I drew the curtains downstairs first the first time since about April. It was warm in the day but drizzly and it is cool now

I made my second batch of blackberry jelly yesterday - it feels really early for that! I’d love a second heatwave; I wonder what the long range forecast is

Menopausalmum43 · 29/07/2025 23:21

8 o clock and it was getting a bit dusky. Funny how quickly it starts to change. I love summer and spring. The thought of winter makes me cry. I really don't like it

CoffeeWithHer · 29/07/2025 23:24

I thought the same today OP! I’ve had our windows and back door open for weeks (utterly joyous!) AND washing on the line pretty much every day….today the washing was still a little damp when I came to take it in and I felt a change of the evening so closed the back door - reluctantly - an hour earlier than usual.

The weather really has been cooler since Saturday but I’ve high hopes for the rest of the season although August is so hit and miss isn’t it?

Cant complain though - I’ve loved the warmth this year xx

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 29/07/2025 23:40

🙉

cofffeeee · 29/07/2025 23:46

I said the same thing to my sister to day that the nights are coming in unless its just me seeing it.
But i love it i love winter time.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/07/2025 08:54

Yes, made crumble yesterday from blackberries I picked in a park in London. Also perfect cool weather for dog walking.

I hope summer is over for us 😬 but not for the rest of you in other parts of the UK still wanting summer

mimblewimble · 30/07/2025 09:07

Last night when I went to bed I thought about Autumn for the first time this year.

I know it's not even August yet, but here was something in the feel of yesterday.

Pricelessadvice · 30/07/2025 09:11

It’s usually the last week of August I feel the seasons change. There’s a difference in the evening sun and atmosphere. I love Autumm so I’m all for it!

DappledThings · 30/07/2025 09:14

Not at all. Wasp season only kicked in this week. We were camping and it wasn't properly dark until gone 10.30.

It's nice and cool now but still summer cool. Plenty of time for it to turn into roasting hot unpleasantness still.
