If you knew that a single parent took a DC with active chicken pox to a shop? If they couldn’t get a delivery slot, and had no one to drop food off but fridge/cupboards empty.

Very selfish

Overthebow · 30/07/2025 14:32

I don’t think it’s selfish if you need food and have exhausted all other feasible options. It would be selfish to take them if there was an alternative though.

Skybluepinky · 30/07/2025 14:53

Very stupid!

That's exactly proves my point you're classing chips pasta and peas as having no food in your house. Im seeing it as that will do for 2/3 days until I get a delivery slot. Especially if you have things like butter cheese flour etc in even if you dont its still food your cupboards arent empty.

Fair enough, but I don't think that would do, especially for as long as 2-3 days for a child who is fighting off chickenpox.

Especially as the only reason not to go to the shops and feed a child properly is a minuscule risk that they might briefly pass someone immunocompromised who has neither had chicken pox nor been vaccinated.

JMSA · 30/07/2025 17:42

Yes. And one CAN get a shopping slot. I managed to get a same day one on Tesco today.
If there’s no food in, it’s pure disorganisation on their part.

Its 2/3 days to get a delivery slot like op said she can get delivery but their where no slots.

Not Christmas, not lockdown…. I can’t believe not a single slot for 3 days

Nichebitch · 30/07/2025 18:20

Every time I see a chicken pox thread I comment because people need to be more aware. My dc had it and almost died, no previous health problems, in and out of hospital for 6 months and still dealing with trauma 2 years later. Serious issues with chicken pox are not that rare. Please don’t be horrible and keep the child in.

Oh i agree. I think op is making a lot of excuses and I dont believe she has no food in the house

I think anyone who finds themselves in this situation needs to set about very quickly with building their village.

so there’s…no partner, no friends, no neighbours, no food in freezer/larder.

this or similar situation will happen repeatedly for something or other for the next 5 years.

you need to make friends even if that’s outside of your comfort zone, always have a meal in etc

Ponderingwindow · 30/07/2025 18:32

I can believe someone might not be able to afford the available delivery or pickup options. If that is the case, I think it’s time to ask a random neighbor, even if it is a huge imposition.
