Ontobetterthings · 27/07/2025 18:03

I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Is this post meant to be a joke or are you just very confused?

On one hand dismissing comparisons as irrelevant yet on the other drawing a nonsense comparison.

I think you're the delusional one.

Grammarnut · 27/07/2025 20:14

My late DH would watch women's footbal and say that the games played and the strategy and skill were much better than the men produced. He did get cross that it seemed only blonde women got to play - he considered this misogynistic on the ground ability to play has nothing to do with hair colour etc.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2025 20:14

Lanzarotelady you are a disgrace. Are you a man?

This thread is depressing. I’m so thankful that I’m surrounded by men in my life who speak nothing but positively about the women’s football. On the flip side, the open misogyny is helpful to identify those who won’t add value to my life.

This.

I'm watching in Spain.
Not seen or heard anything but respect from the men watching here.

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:15

I'd love to see a match of the European Champions the Lionesses, vs an U16 boys team, the scoreline would be laughable.

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:16

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:08

Yes they have, are you deluded?

Would you let me to share the history of when pretty average teenage boys have played the world champions?

cobrakaieaglefang · 27/07/2025 20:16

They look like even bigger 🔔ends now. Yes of course the men's game is different, biology plays a major part in the difference, plus the men's game us 50 years ahead in development.
The 🦖🦕 can reflect on the fact the men have won diddly squat of their own 'superior' game in nearly 60 years.

ExercicenformedeZ · 27/07/2025 20:16

I have to admit that I almost exploded laughing when someone on a similar thread here described the women's football (as compared to men's) as 'three drunk lads slurring Chumbawumba vs the Three Tenors' but I don't know it that is fair. The mental image just made me laugh (and also got 'Tubthumping' stuck in my head the whole day!)

TheCurious0range · 27/07/2025 20:16

Lanzarotelady · 27/07/2025 19:43

Hahahahaha

I would have more respect, if people were honest and actually could call out the issues, instead of this rhetoric that it is such a superior game.

Listen to any commentator of rugby, football, etc, they will openly call out the male players for a poor tackle, goal attempt, poor pass etc - will they do that in the womans game no, because we are being forced to believe it is a far more superior game than it actually is, anyone having the balls to say this in cancelled!

You've not been listening to Ian Wright on ITV throughout the tournament including after this win, clearly!

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/07/2025 20:17

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:03

If you're still listening to the commentary, talking about players as the "best in the world" in their position is incredibly ridiculous.

Well, if they were meaning football, as a whole, men and women’s game combined - I guess so. But they weren’t were they? Because if they were they probably shouldn’t mention the England men’s team in the same breath as the women’s cos there’s no comparison there either. Is there?

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:17

I can offer you some YouTube videos of Full matches if you're interested?

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/07/2025 20:17

So glad I’m not married to a twat like some people. My DH loves football and has followed the women’s game for the last ten years. Unfortunately our dd isn’t interested.
some of the comments on this thread belong in the 1950’s.

VioletandDill · 27/07/2025 20:18

The impact on girls getting involved in football and sport has been immense. It's only going to get better. Let the middle aged blokes stay mad about it.

No, the standard timetabling is that, every June/July, Wimbledon dominates the schedule and every summer, international football tournaments take over the schedule.

Why should programmes that rule the schedule week after week after week dominated 52 weeks a year?

Because there’s no need for it to be different. Wimbledon can go on red button too. It doesn’t affect the sport fans. They can still watch. The stuff it displaces doesn’t even go onto red button so can’t be watched at all for the duration.

Why laughable?
Is it because males are bigger and stronger than women and so that means men can laugh because women aren't physically as strong?
What fools men are.

A strong male u16s team might beat the Lionesses.

A park team wouldn't.

And why would either eventuality be laughable?

You could let it go and just celebrate the achievement of these women?

Not sure what you are getting out of this, tbh.

What fools men are.

It's not about strength, it's the standard of football.

isyouready · 27/07/2025 20:20

It's brilliant that women are excelling in sports. Football, cricket, tennis, golf and more

You asked? Would you like a link or not?

SpryCat · 27/07/2025 20:20

Maybe he is angry because the Lionesses are showing the overpaid male teams how to actually play to win!

KateShugakIsALegend · 27/07/2025 20:21

Nope, I didn't.

Are you ok?

Edited

So you want programmes that don't even exist to go on the red button?

There's one very good reason why big sports tournaments get lots of airtime in the summer. They cost very little per hour of programming.

Andbegin · 27/07/2025 20:21

If I’m being honest I can see his point. It’s such a male game it can seem odd having women represented. Bit like ballet when men go on pointe.
Women’s rugby works better because the diversity in body type for each position negates the differences somehow. Women’s cricket also looks fine to me.

Perhaps it’s just I think football is dull.

Daleksatemyshed · 27/07/2025 20:22

I don't watch football much but it's still sad to see how many people can't stand to see women do well at any sport, worse still how many of the negative comments come from women. Well done to the England Ladies @👏
