I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Tbh, my dh won’t watch it. Not because they’re women, but because he thinks the quality of football is poor. A bit like our local team here (men’s) which he also doesn’t support/watch, again because the quality isn’t there (they're in the second division). I think it’s okay not to like it, as long as the reasons aren’t because they’re women.

For any of you who are confused about the facts;

The facts are the facts, we're talking about high school boys vs female Olympians.

Hahahahaha

I would have more respect, if people were honest and actually could call out the issues, instead of this rhetoric that it is such a superior game.

Listen to any commentator of rugby, football, etc, they will openly call out the male players for a poor tackle, goal attempt, poor pass etc - will they do that in the womans game no, because we are being forced to believe it is a far more superior game than it actually is, anyone having the balls to say this in cancelled!

Though in fairness to you, I do have to agree here a bit - the England women definitely do things the England men don’t do.
Like, win.

It's not about elite young boys, pretty average young boys have historically dominated against women's teams who have won World championships.

No they haven't.

"The women's world champions not so long ago got absolutely routed by a team of schoolchildren."

Of course- haven't you seen the women vs boys website? Male tennis players post puberty could slam aces past elite women, male rugby players could break women in half. Doesn't make the women's game bad to watch.
I like watching horseracing, I sometimes watch athletics, I don't think ugh those sprinters are so slow compared to horses, why bother watching people?

Exactly. Such a tired argument. Some teenage boys run faster than Olympian female sprinters at their peak . It doesn’t make the women runners any less impressive. Women are not men and that’s ok!

Givemethesun · 27/07/2025 20:07

Not sure if there’s another thread as this one is a bit depressing (not the op’s fault but the man who made those comments)but wanted to say very proud of the ladies and this is great for all the young girls out there.

Football is one of the main sports that is cheap to play and easy to understand. Grab a football head to the park. Sport should be accessible for everyone and encouraging young girls to understand that football is an option is great.

Fair enough. But if he never watches it how does he know the ‘quality’ isn’t there?

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:07

No they haven't.

Yes they have, are you deluded?

RampantIvy · 27/07/2025 20:08

Funny how the men's team haven't won two Euros on the trot.

CowTown · 27/07/2025 20:08

He’s just bitter because the Male Lionesses never win jack shit.

14 year old boys.

Even the US women’s team lost heavily to a team of 14 year old boys and this is in a country where arguably women’s football is more established than men’s football.

All of that bullshit is irrelevant. The fact is they've just won a major tournament, something the men haven't done in nearly 60 years. Focus on why the men's team can't cut it in international football while the women's team can, and continue to do.

60 fucking years!!!

handsdownthebest · 27/07/2025 20:09

DH is a staunch rugby supporter and is not interested in men’s football, but loves watching and supporting the Lionesses (he is also not English. He especially loves the way they celebrate with all their funny antics.

Track and field, and swimming. Not football.

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2025 20:10

"It's the ability level of women's football that is poor compared to the men, not their physicality."

Well the only way it's going to get better is by encouraging girls to play...which includes showing top level matches.

The top level camogie and women's gaelic football matches get shown live on RTÉ and it's just accepted as normal, it's expected.

Not everyone likes soaps, news, game shows or nature programmes. Put them on the red button.

Silly argument. They are the standard timetabling. But essentially for most of us everything is on the red button. Don’t remember when I last watched something at its timetabled time on terrestrial tv.

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/07/2025 20:11

Lanzarotelady · 27/07/2025 18:36

I don't know of any man who would choose to watch it, my husband and not one of his mates or his colleagues, would. Appreciate that they don't represent the whole of the males in the country etc.

Personally, would I watch it, no, I think its dire.

It's the opposite where I am. Lots of men on my fb cheering them on and doing running commentary. Really supportive.

Lots of families too. I think it's brilliant.

TeenLifeMum · 27/07/2025 20:11

This thread is depressing. I’m so thankful that I’m surrounded by men in my life who speak nothing but positively about the women’s football. On the flip side, the open misogyny is helpful to identify those who won’t add value to my life.

Is this post meant to be a joke or are you just very confused?

On one hand dismissing comparisons as irrelevant yet on the other drawing a nonsense comparison.

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:10

Track and field, and swimming. Not football.

Pretty much every sport aside from long distance, as that requires tactics that they haven't learnt yet.

If you'd like me to post videos of U14 boys destroying women's International teams, I will

It’s just like when women moan about Mens football being on the main channels. You see it on here all the time

Kendodd · 27/07/2025 20:12

They're just jealous because the women are better than the men.

ExercicenformedeZ · 27/07/2025 20:12

ItsBouqeeeet · 27/07/2025 18:15

He's entitled to his opinion. Same as you. Move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

He's entitled not to enjoy it, or to watch it himself. He is NOT entitled to claim that nobody else enjoys it or that it should be 'put on a different channel'. That's his feeling, not fact.

Willyoujustbequiet · 27/07/2025 20:13

He's just a misogynist OP. Pay no attention. They are generally knuckle draggers who are insecure and feel threatened.

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:13

I'm proud of what the Lionesses have achieved, don't get me wrong.

But let's not pretend it was good football by an objective standard.

No, the standard timetabling is that, every June/July, Wimbledon dominates the schedule and every summer, international football tournaments take over the schedule.

Why should programmes that rule the schedule week after week after week dominated 52 weeks a year?
