I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

@YourUglySister All football players do. The unfortunate reality of the sport is that teams can gain an advantage if the players pretend to be injured.

Was it this LBC caller:

He sounds very emotional.

Just ignore. When they showed the Boxpark footage from the semi final it was full of young women cheering their lungs out for England. Women's football will be just fine without the approval of middle aged men. In fact I'm not sure why we're even thinking about it.

Needmorelego · 27/07/2025 18:38

The men I know that are into football seem more interested in women's football than most women.
I know a 10 year old girl that seems interested but that's about it.
(obviously I know that loads of women are interested - just not in my circle)

chachahide · 27/07/2025 18:39

The thing is, men’s football is just very different, they’re stronger and it’s very clinical. I enjoy men’s football but I also really enjoy women’s, I love the determination and dynamism of the women’s game.

To get really angry that it’s not as good, I just don’t get. You can’t compare the 2, and to do so is very reductionist.

I hope none of these men have daughters.

Leave us to it, men make millions from it, have dominated for years, who cares if us women want to play?

Also, they claim ‘no one cares’… ITV’s biggest audience this year was women’s football. Over 10 million.

I saw a clip of that - he was just a dickhead I think!

The whole thing about “give them their own channel” - why does he think bbc and itv are more men’s than women’s channels??

Because he thinks everything is primarily for men.

I don't know of any man who would choose to watch it, my husband and not one of his mates or his colleagues, would. Appreciate that they don't represent the whole of the males in the country etc.

Personally, would I watch it, no, I think its dire.

The pubs I have been past are full of men watching and the stadiums have had loads of male fans too.

Whatshesaid96 · 27/07/2025 18:41

Yet men are happy to go to none league football games and cheer them on. The level of that is much worse than women's international football. But yeh because its men innit they are better.....

I just eye roll and happily tell them to leave me to watch it alone.

Full of men watching, or just on in the background whilst the men are there?
Are the men going on their own, or as part of a family?

Men watching the games.

I don’t know a single person who would go on holiday to Lanzarote. I don’t doubt people do, though.

44PumpLane · 27/07/2025 18:46

My husband is currently watching the match, he's just tried to talk to me about it a bit but I had to point out that i'm an equal opportunity hater of all things football and had as little interest in the women's footy as I do in the men's (I prefer rugby or hockey or tennis......just never clicked with football)!

A lot of people think their personal experience is true of the entire world.

Absentmindedsmile · 27/07/2025 18:46

I’ve been to a quite a few men’s games and a few women’s games. The women’s games are by far more enjoyable to attend. Better atmosphere, no aggression in the crowd, everyone having a good time. Just overall a more enjoyable event.

SitOnHisFaceIfHeDiesHeDies · 27/07/2025 18:46

Football is primarily a man's sport the same as netball is a woman's sport and that's okay. There will never be as much interest in women's football from men and that's also okay. It's just the way it is.

However in a world full of "influencers" and Love Island types, I'd much rather my daughters (if I had any) were looking up to the lionesses. They are professional athletes living healthy and productive lives. They're a great example to kids and we need more of it.

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 18:47

Vallmo47 · 27/07/2025 18:22

When men say men’s football is better, when was the last time the men actually got us as far as the women have repeatedly done? Genuine question.

England men were in the last two Euros finals and, in the last two World Cups, were in the semi- and quarter-finals. England men are actually pretty good.

It's such a stupid move to be comparing mens' and womens' football. Men are much bigger, stronger and faster. The men are "better" than the women. They would trounce them. But so what? They don't play each other.

The women's Euros has been a terrific spectacle. Don't like it? Don't watch.

It’s only ‘a men’s sport’ because the FA banned women playing football. For decades. Before they did that, attendance at womens matches was the same as men’s. 🤷‍♀️

Another example of a patriarchal society / men’s world / misogyny.

A lot of people think their personal experience is true of the entire world.

I specifically said, I didn't think my experience was representative of the male population

RaininSummer · 27/07/2025 18:50

Very odd. I would like the men's football on another channel too as I don't like that.

I wish people would stop going then I could enjoy the island to myself haha

JohnnyRememberMe · 27/07/2025 18:51

I'm in my local and both sexes are cheering on the Lionnesses.

Boredlass · 27/07/2025 18:19

It’s just like when women moan about Mens football being on the main channels. You see it on here all the time

It’s not the same though, because the women moaning about men’s football being on the main channels aren’t also saying it’s fine for women’s football to be on the main channels.

The men who don’t think the women’s game should be shown on main channels would be disappointed if the men’s game wasn’t shown on them.

Hypocrisy and misogyny.

He's entitled to his opinion. Same as you. Move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you understand how forums work? It’s about discussion. You’re in the wrong place if you think people aren’t entitled to chat about what’s concerning them. You should move on with your shitty (and obviously misogynistic) attitude.

Edited

Technically the FA didn't ban women's football. They banned it from being played in the same stadia as men's football.

In effect it was a ban, but a horrible sly one, one they could deny. Arseholes

Great to see the crowds at the Euros, the quality of the football has been good.

SaintNoMountainHighEnough · 27/07/2025 18:55

As a man. I love it.

The Lionesses are fantastic, an absolute credit to themselves and our country. I love watching the women's game as it lacks so much of the bullsh*t found in the men's game. There's a joyful purity to it.

Fingers crossed for us in extra time!
