Ontobetterthings · 27/07/2025 18:03

I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Why are some posters being so negative about women's football. Are they football experts? I think it's great that our women can win an interbtional title and then successfully defend it three years later.

What an inspiration they are. Prince William looked overjoyed as he was congratulating the girls.

Yes at one point the women’s game was bigger than the men’s, then they strategically suppressed it for decades.

People need to read up on the history including pioneering teams such as Dick, Kerr Ladies and many more.

I just wandering if back in the days, people were attending women football matches as a football or more some kind of circus to watch?

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:24

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:17

I can offer you some YouTube videos of Full matches if you're interested?

Well, as I've just asked you to provide the history of teenage boys repeatedly beating the World Champions, yes, I would.

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/07/2025 20:24

I’ve just got no time for people moaning that they aren’t as good as the men. So what? They aren’t men. They are the best women’s team in Europe and beat the World Cup winners. People don’t get mad about female tennis players or female athletes who don’t play /compete like men, so why does women’s football bring out these stupid comments.

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:24

KateShugakIsALegend · 27/07/2025 20:21

Nope, I didn't.

Are you ok?

Very well thanks, but I'm being honest when I say the quality of football on both sides was shit.

Exactly 💯

Absolutely, women's football and men's football are different games.

Honestly this is such a wierd take. They are not different games at all they are just played by different bodies. The rules are the same, the length of the pitch is the same, the height of the goals are the same. Its like if the men had to play on a pitch 1/3 larger than the current pitch.

Luckily the women (as far as I am aware) are playing other women, thats what makes it comptetive- not that they are playing men where it wouldn't be competitive. It is possible to enjoy sport, whatever it is.

It's not about strength, it's the standard of football.

Strength and speed are key elements of the standard of football.

MounjaroMounjaro · 27/07/2025 20:26

Actually they are right in that men and women do play a different game, which is why TW shouldn't play in women's sport.

cardibach · 27/07/2025 20:26

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:21

So you want programmes that don't even exist to go on the red button?

There's one very good reason why big sports tournaments get lots of airtime in the summer. They cost very little per hour of programming.

Of course the normal programmes exist. They get postponed. No need for that. If they must put sport everywhere they could at least keep normal programming going on red button.
Why do sports fans think they are the only ones who matter? Such arrogance.

Agree.
I am sure Prince William recognises that these women are great role models for his children - particularly his daughter.

I think you are making the same argument. The same size goal is defended by a 6'4" male keeper and a 5'9" female keeper, for example. The way of playing that position is different for the two players.

KateShugakIsALegend · 27/07/2025 20:28

I am so delighted for and proud of the England national team.

Such an achievement to win this tournament.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/07/2025 20:29

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:19

It's not about strength, it's the standard of football.

It absolutely is about strength. Muscle strength. Stamina. Speed. Other physical attributes like, for example, lung capacity and explosive muscle power.
Though the England men probably should play the England women.
It would be their best chance of winning.

Absentmindedsmile · 27/07/2025 20:29

MounjaroMounjaro · 27/07/2025 20:26

Yes. Where are all these men when women need them to support women in (at the bare minimum) keeping men out of women’s sport? They don’t give a shit because they’re misogynistic hypocritical fckers.

VioletandDill · 27/07/2025 20:30

Andbegin · 27/07/2025 20:21

If I’m being honest I can see his point. It’s such a male game it can seem odd having women represented. Bit like ballet when men go on pointe.
Women’s rugby works better because the diversity in body type for each position negates the differences somehow. Women’s cricket also looks fine to me.

Perhaps it’s just I think football is dull.

Such a male game?! Christ alive. 1921 would like it's opinion back.

Nagginthenag · 27/07/2025 20:30

Some people seem so, I dunno, bitter about a team of fantastic sports women who have just achieved a brilliant tournament win.

Do these bitter and miserable people think that women should just stop playing competitive sport because they're not men or summat?

Congrats to the amazing Lionesses! 🏆

Gonehome56 · 27/07/2025 20:30

InternationalHulaClub · 27/07/2025 19:55

Anyone who thinks a Sunday league team could beat England or Spain clearly hasn't sat through a mens' National League football match on a grey day in February.

I agree. It's a bit of a stretch to claim a hungover bunch of blokes playing pub football would "be better". Stronger, aye. Fitter, probably not.

As a avid NL/NLS attendee....I would agree there aren't that many that turn up to regularly to watch. 😆

dangerornot · 27/07/2025 20:31

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:19

It's not about strength, it's the standard of football.

Maybe the problem isn’t the football — maybe it’s how you view women’s achievements.

They can't keep normal programming and provide additional sports programming without spending more money on programming than they have. Obviously.

OonaStubbs · 27/07/2025 20:31

cardibach · 27/07/2025 20:00

Yes, because not everyone likes it. It could be on the red button/iPlayer like Glastonbury is. No need to put it on and disrupt everything else. I don’t watch terrestrial timetabled tv often so it doesn’t affect me but I can see why it’s annoying.

But the womens world cup has always been on the schedule. It hasn't disrupted anything.

OonaStubbs · 27/07/2025 20:31

I mean womens Euros.

2021x · 27/07/2025 20:33

Allmarbleslost · 27/07/2025 19:00

Weak men feel very threatened by strong women.

I would just take the "strong" out of that sentence and replace it with "women existing".

EasternStandard · 27/07/2025 20:33

Yelloello · 27/07/2025 20:07

Exactly. Such a tired argument. Some teenage boys run faster than Olympian female sprinters at their peak . It doesn’t make the women runners any less impressive. Women are not men and that’s ok!

Edited

Exactly. That’s why women play separately, and the winners are celebrated.
