Ontobetterthings · 27/07/2025 18:03

I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Both my sons are bitching and moaning because the women have just won. Apparently 'they celebrate too much when they score' 🙄

I am ignoring it (and indeed am ignoring the football because I don't care). My bitching sons did watch it though 😂

Well done Lionesses!

How can you celebrate winning a championship too much??

watchuswreckthemic · 27/07/2025 19:55

Amazing achievement. My partner runs a YouTube football channel, he’s watched most of the games like I have and enjoyed it. We don’t try and compare men and women’s athletics, tennis, swimming etc so why football?
plus as many others have said then why try and compare a sport that men have legally (and I don’t use that term lightly) have been allowed to play; against a women’s team?

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 19:55

TheCurious0range · 27/07/2025 19:54

Can you tell the men that?

I do, and they get the abuse from the commentators.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/07/2025 19:56

Lanzarotelady · 27/07/2025 19:43

Hahahahaha

I would have more respect, if people were honest and actually could call out the issues, instead of this rhetoric that it is such a superior game.

Listen to any commentator of rugby, football, etc, they will openly call out the male players for a poor tackle, goal attempt, poor pass etc - will they do that in the womans game no, because we are being forced to believe it is a far more superior game than it actually is, anyone having the balls to say this in cancelled!

And I’d have more respect for your opinion on it if you hadn’t already said, very clearly, that YOU DON’T WATCH IT. Melon.

OonaStubbs · 27/07/2025 19:56

People watch lightweight boxing. They don't say "neither of these could win against Tyson Fury".

I am watching it and took a couple of mins to post. I was very taken aback by the call which is the same one discussed here. The guy was saying we are shoving it down their throats and get it on a different channel. He was so hateful that a woman's football team was being shown.. I was shocked.

I'm still very surprised that people are on this website during the match going on about what other people think of it. Is everyone on here thinking that they need to post on here instead of watching it?

A team of teenage boys absolutely hammered the women's world champions a few years ago. It was absolutely humiliating.

You're talking about elite academy footballers (Arsenal u 18s?), not Shittown United under 15s

Steph117 · 27/07/2025 19:58

Solocup · 27/07/2025 19:37

It’s not ridiculous at all. The men’s they fucked around with the ball wasting time, the women’s was constant every minute counts attacking. It’s a different game, in my opinion, a much better one.

You clearly haven’t watched much football to draw that conclusion.

Velmy · 27/07/2025 19:59

People watch lightweight boxing. They don't say "neither of these could win against Tyson Fury".

Most of the best, most skilled boxers in the world compete in the lower weight classes.

It's the ability level of women's football that is poor compared to the men, not their physicality.

It's not about elite young boys, pretty average young boys have historically dominated against women's teams who have won World championships.

My DH is watching the football now. There’s odd comments about how they’re not as good as the men’s, but he’s still supporting them to win!

What a twat. Mine has been cheering louder than anyone in this house and shed a tear when they won. Mind you, with 3 daughters and me in the house he wouldn’t dare say it even if he does have twatty thoughts about men being somehow superior.

Anyone who thinks a Sunday league team could beat England or Spain clearly hasn't sat through a mens' National League football match on a grey day in February.

i meant a Sunday league men’s team, not a semi professional/professional team which is what the National League is.

They were 15 year old children as it happens, yes.

There is definitely misogyny at play, but equally I see so many ranty threads on here when the men's football is on and a regular TV programme has been moved or cancelled, football, rugby, Olympics even, the same arguments it doesn't need to be on Bbc1/ITV , why is it on both channels, who cares if it's a final etc etc.

I enjoy most sports but I don't get angry when one I don't enjoy changes the TV schedule. Lots of people seem to.

Yes, because not everyone likes it. It could be on the red button/iPlayer like Glastonbury is. No need to put it on and disrupt everything else. I don’t watch terrestrial timetabled tv often so it doesn’t affect me but I can see why it’s annoying.

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:01

I'm convinced my local pub team could give the England women's team a good challenge.

They're different sports!

It's not about taking away from the amazing achievement the Lionesses have made, it's just reality.

Screamingabdabz · 27/07/2025 20:01

Well done England!!!

And🖕🏼to all the miseries, misogynists and handmaids.

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:01

Bbq1 · 27/07/2025 19:54

My dh watched it and the tournament and commented that some of the women are better than some of the men and I agree.

They're not. Of course they're not. But why try and compare?

Steph117 · 27/07/2025 20:01

InternationalHulaClub · 27/07/2025 19:57

14 year old boys.

Even the US women’s team lost heavily to a team of 14 year old boys and this is in a country where arguably women’s football is more established than men’s football.

FellowPatient · 27/07/2025 20:03

If you're still listening to the commentary, talking about players as the "best in the world" in their position is incredibly ridiculous.

InbetweenDreams · 27/07/2025 20:03

I personally haven’t come across this reaction (which sounds extreme! You’re not at all wrong). My DH doesn’t care about football, but my FIL is really into it and he’s always trying to get us interested in how well the Lionesses are doing haha. It’s sweet because we have girls and I think he thinks it’s good for them to see the women doing so well.

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:03

Not everyone likes soaps, news, game shows or nature programmes. Put them on the red button.

powershowerforanhour · 27/07/2025 20:04

"The women's world champions not so long ago got absolutely routed by a team of schoolchildren."

Of course- haven't you seen the women vs boys website? Male tennis players post puberty could slam aces past elite women, male rugby players could break women in half. Doesn't make the women's game bad to watch.
I like watching horseracing, I sometimes watch athletics, I don't think ugh those sprinters are so slow compared to horses, why bother watching people?

Solocup · 27/07/2025 20:04

Steph117 · 27/07/2025 19:58

They're obviously talking about within the women's game.

Absentmindedsmile · 27/07/2025 18:29

Yep. Misogynistic dickhead.

He (and perhaps others) need a history lesson:

  • In 1921, the FA banned women's football from FA-affiliated grounds, citing that the sport was "unsuitable for females".
  • This ban was motivated by a combination of factors, including the FA's perceived control over the game and the large crowds that women's matches were attracting.

So again misogynistic dickheads.

Yes at one point the women’s game was bigger than the men’s, then they strategically suppressed it for decades.

People need to read up on the history including pioneering teams such as Dick, Kerr Ladies and many more.
