Ontobetterthings · 27/07/2025 18:03

I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Agree 100% I don’t know any either. It’s essentially a different sport, any Sunday league men’s team would beat the England women’s team comfortably.

You’ve obviously seen very little Sunday League if that’s what you think…. especially if Shagger was out late the night before, and Kev can’t find his boots.

Women’s tennis players aren’t comically poor. Hope they win for you, but I’m personally not interested either way.

Women footballers aren't comically poor.

Why do they give men like this airtime? Unnecessary.

Because it it Talk Radio........

They really are

We’re watching and my husband has enjoyed the tournament.

Sadly, I have seen so much misogyny online around the women’s game.My local newspaper keeps posting clickbait articles about it.

I think it’s amazing that the sport is growing in a world that is still severely disadvantaging the grassroots growth of the game. (Because men).

Try and book a local 3g/4g pitch and you’ll find men and boys have all the best spots and the women’s game is relegated to the inconvenient times.

Our local stagnating semi pro team allows the men’s first team, reserves, boys U19s and U17s on their nicely manicured stadium pitch. The women’s team and U15s girl’s team (both rising fast through leagues) have to pay via subs (and a tiny club subsidy they've kindly been made to feel grateful for) to use a very boggy council unmanicured pitch.

Rising up leagues requires better standards of facilities and the men are already raising concerns that if the women’s team get promoted again they will cause overuse of their pitch and damage. They seem quite irritated by the women’s and girl’s success - mainly I think as the local FA gave them significant funding while saying they needed to give opportunities to women and girls and now those pesky females aren’t just running around squealing and waving hands at a football as planned, but doing very well.

I’m fed up of hearing men bitching on that it’s not proper football or whatever. Are they telling their daughters that? Men’s England team are dire, always have been in my living memory but we still watch them to cheer them on. Why is women’s football different?

Exactly. What have the men’s team won in living memory?
but some blokes would be saying “yes but they don’t win anything while playing proper football”

Sonolanona · 27/07/2025 19:13

Dh is watching it... and he's not generally into football . Neither am I but watching women being good at their sport.. hell yes. Over 10 million watched last week !
Of course it's different from the men's game, just as every other sport is. But I like the fact they spend less time rolling around the floor!

VickyEadieofThigh · 27/07/2025 19:13

I saw that and his "Give them their own channel" shite. If I'd been the radio host, I'd have said "Do you only have the one channel on your TV, then?" because everyone else has LOADS to choose from if they don't want to watch a specific programme."

Don’t you get exhausted? Dragging that internalised misogny around?

Honestly just let it go. Be happy for the team. Be supportive. Or don’t… But just know you don’t always have to punch down on women to prove what a cool girl you are.

SatsumaDog · 27/07/2025 19:14

Just don’t watch it then! I don’t have any interest in football (played by men or women) so don’t bother watching it. Same with gold and F1. I don’t rant on that it shouldn’t be televised. He is obviously an idiot.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/07/2025 19:14

YourUglySister · 27/07/2025 18:34

I’m interested to find out if the women roll around on the floor and feign injury as much as the men do or if they just get on with it. Grin

Just the usual dropping like they'd been shot when it was undesirable to go to extra time.

ConstitutionHill · 27/07/2025 19:14

they are a tiny bit slower. So refreshing not to see the diving and histrionics that we see in the mens's game.

The Italians spent ages rolling round on the floor in the semi final

It’s amazing how these men say they don’t care about women’s football and yet have such a passionate response about it. It’s really weird. If you don’t care about something you don’t waste time on it.

Tell me you know nothing about football without telling me...

HRTQueen · 27/07/2025 19:16

Many men can’t stand women being successful he sounds like a typical bitter woman hating man

this is nothing to do with not enjoying the women’s game as much as it isn’t such a high standard/slower game etc it’s straight forward misogyny.
many men will be absolutely gutted if England win

so much misogyny around

Solocup · 27/07/2025 19:17

Wtf? The women’s is now a far better standard than the men’s. Have got it on now, the men’s euros is so dreary by comparison.

ConstitutionHill · 27/07/2025 19:17

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/07/2025 19:10

These angry men can’t stand it that women are being paid to play football and win trophies too. They grew up wanting to be footballers but weren’t good enough and can’t stand it that women have achieved what they haven’t.
They don’t have a problem with women’s football. They have a problem with women.

Yep, this.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 27/07/2025 19:18

Ahh, such a shame I missed that. I’d have enjoyed imagining his little red face and impending heart attack. Bless him.

Yes, as women's football has become more professionalised, it's notable that they actually spend more time drawing fouls and physically recovering. Football is an intense, athletic game and recovery is necessary.

I mean, it isn't. In what sense is it "a far better standard"?

Ridiculous comments like this are what cause much of the problem. Pretending it is something it isn’t.

The Italian's were just doing it to time waste. Once they were ahead they just took every opportunity to run down the clock.

It was very funny to see all those players with cramp suddenly recover once England equalised
