I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

My DH is not a football man really but he’s there cheering them on because a) it’s England and b) he prefers the women’s game as he says it’s more ‘proper’ football rather than overpaid prima donnas rolling on the floor.

It’s all just irrelevant kicky ball to me so I couldn’t give a shit either way!

LakieLady · 27/07/2025 18:55

I'm not really into football at all, but I prefer the women's game.

They don't seem to spend as much time lying on the ground pretending to be hurt as the men do, so it's more free-flowing.

IcelandQuestion · 27/07/2025 18:57

My husband is watching, as are the rest of the men in my family - big football family! He’s trying hard to get our daughter interested - she’s here with her lionesses top on but otherwise unbothered. I’m glad she’s seeing it on tv being treated as seriously as the men’s’ game though, I think that’s a good message whether she eventually shows any interest in football going forward or not.

I’d be really pleased if they won but have to admit I’ve been mostly reading rather than watching the game (exactly as I’d have been doing if it was the men’s game - if I’d stayed in the room at all.)

Ive not heard DH comment either way on comparing it to the men’s game. I’ve just asked him directly and he just said the standards are getting better and better, the men’s game is a different animal but he enjoys watching both, though in fairness he will watch literally any football match or indeed any sport that happens to be on tv. Whilst he does have a particular team he’s supposedly a fan of I’ve never known him be particularly tribal or obsessive about it, it’s not like tied up in his identity or masculinity in the way I’ve seen it for some men. Some men really do over identify in a way that maybe makes it harder for them to get behind the women’s game maybe - it’s pretty unevolved of them but could explain the stupidity.

I don't know of any man who would choose to watch it, my husband and not one of his mates or his colleagues, would. Appreciate that they don't represent the whole of the males in the country etc.

Personally, would I watch it, no, I think its dire.

Well my husband chose to watch it. You obviously surround yourself with narrow minded Neanderthals.

YesterdaysFuture · 27/07/2025 18:58

So the match is on now, and you're posting about men being angry at it instead of watching it yourself?

Hahaha, just because someone has a different opinion than you and your husband, it doesn't make them narrow minded or a Neanderthal.

blubberball · 27/07/2025 18:59

My partner put it on, and I'm watching with him. I'm not really into football, but it's England

Football is primarily a man's sport the same as netball is a woman's sport and that's okay. There will never be as much interest in women's football from men and that's also okay. It's just the way it is.

However in a world full of "influencers" and Love Island types, I'd much rather my daughters (if I had any) were looking up to the lionesses. They are professional athletes living healthy and productive lives. They're a great example to kids and we need more of it.

Only because of weird cultural ideas. Not because it’s inherent to the sport.

At my school, boys and girls all did rugby, football and hockey (split by sex obviously, but everyone did those sports). But basketball and netball was where they decided to draw the line - boys did basketball, girls did netball.

Allmarbleslost · 27/07/2025 19:00

Weak men feel very threatened by strong women.

Keeptoiletssafe · 27/07/2025 19:00

I don’t know any men who aren’t cheering it on. My child just called me and is in a pub with men and women shouting at the big screen tv. Dh is discussing tactics to me. His football mates he plays with are on whatsapp messaging too. It’s daft to think it’s the same type of game. Dh has been to the matches with the children and loves the atmosphere more than the men’s games.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 27/07/2025 19:02

I can't bear football whoever is playing. But the angriness of some blokes over this is sadly, not surprising.

It will be annoying to them also that they're winning 😂 and are more successful than the male team, hence 'its not proper football'

Pathetic really.

I am watching it and took a couple of mins to post. I was very taken aback by the call which is the same one discussed here. The guy was saying we are shoving it down their throats and get it on a different channel. He was so hateful that a woman's football team was being shown.. I was shocked.

I heard it, it was on LBC. Because it's so mortifying (for the bell end that called in), it's also doing the rounds on Facebook. Misogyny at its finest.

Agree 100% I don’t know any either. It’s essentially a different sport, any Sunday league men’s team would beat the England women’s team comfortably.

And any half-decent men's club tennis player would win the Wimbledon ladies Championship, but so what? They won't be competing in it.

I don’t know a single person who would go on holiday to Lanzarote. I don’t doubt people do, though.

😚👌🏼

needtostopnamechanging · 27/07/2025 19:08

Men are stronger than women - wow yes that means they would win

thats why we have single sex games isn’t it?

doesn’t mean the women’s game is worse - a good game is skill and judgement and teamwork not hoofing the ball

This.

I'm sat here with DP and DS and we're equally as stressed as if we were watching the men's!

Actually around 100 years ago women’s football got crowds over 50,000. It was every bit as popular as the men’s game so the FA got rid of it.

Women’s tennis players aren’t comically poor. Hope they win for you, but I’m personally not interested either way.

Why do they give men like this airtime? Unnecessary.

Not when it suggests he thinks they should be in the kitchen.

At what point did he suggest they should be in the kitchen?

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/07/2025 19:10

These angry men can’t stand it that women are being paid to play football and win trophies too. They grew up wanting to be footballers but weren’t good enough and can’t stand it that women have achieved what they haven’t.
They don’t have a problem with women’s football. They have a problem with women.

RampantIvy · 27/07/2025 19:11

Are 8% of the voters men then?
