I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

There are some men who are just annoyed that the women's team have progressed further than the men's teams have and have "brought it home" which none of our men's teams have managed to do since 1966.....

Not sure that means very much ultimately. How far a team progresses depends on the standard of the team (cooperative ability as well as the talent of the individuals), the strength of the opposition and an element of randomness we like to call luck. I don't watch football but from what I saw of the game yesterday it looked at least as entertaining as the mens game. Spain made a hash of their penalties which helped. penalty shootouts have a higher degree of luck than the main game because it heavily depends on whether the goalkeeper chooses the right way to dive (the England goalie did well there), although with one of the Spanish attempts she could have caught an early bus home given the striker completely missed the goal.

I'm a female. I love watching the men's football. Unfortunately I just can't get into the women's game at all. But the man making those comments should just turn over the same way men and women do who dont like watching the men's game.

Moii · 28/07/2025 18:05

The women don't roll around fakeing injury the same, they just crack on. They really seemed to enjoy the win more joining the fans while the men think they're too important and back to the changing rooms.

Rattytouille · 28/07/2025 18:05

Some men are just pissed off because they’ve been showed up.

The men get paid a fortune and still can’t win a semi final since the 60’s. Basically they’ve got all the gear and no idea. The men’s England team are a bunch of wet wipes.

Meanwhile we’ve Chloe Kelly booting in a penalty at 120 KMPH, faster than any premier league male, and another doing the whole tournament with a fractured tibia and when asked said she just got on with it (Bronze).

The England team just shone a light on the fact that British men, including all professional footballers, don’t have the guts or balls to win anything.

Mens football is awful, overpaid, prima Donna's who fall over at the slightest touch. Abusive fans and still lots of hooliganism. Name another sport where this all happens?

A lot of men say its rubbish compared to the men's game and the men would beat them over and over. The women play a very different game and yes the men's team would beat them, just like the men's 100m finals would beat the women's 100m finals.

Its pure misogny. My husband actually enjoys watching the women's game (no, not like that) as he says yes its a played a different way, but its still a good game!

This. I prefer watching women play … at least they don’t roll around so much because they have a twisted sock or swear or gob on the pitch. I loved watching the Lionesses… if people don’t like it … don’t watch it but I do think the tournament broke viewing figures for 2025 on TV… so a lot of people disagree with the ranty radio man who sounds like a first class dickhead.

@MasterBeth

Yep, I said that because they don’t WIN. The women do. They just have. Yay! Let’s just celebrate the massive achievement of these women shall we? Men don’t need to feature in everything and anything.

Saying that the men don't win means they are not good players is a bit far fetched. But yet as women we don't want this said about us.

BeanQuisine · 28/07/2025 18:14

Given that the men's game so often consists of very fast running around for hours to no effect at all, with so many scoreless draws and one-ones, the women's game often seems more purposeful, or at least less pointlessly frantic.

lindyloo57 · 28/07/2025 18:16

I don't watch any football men or women, and sick and tired of it taking over the main TV channels, why can't it be on different channel?, and why is it on both main channels at the same time? you can't watch both at once,

Why was the final featuring an English team on 2 channels English at once? Serious question? And you can’t just and watch one of the literally 100s of other channels available?

Omg. Surely you could have found something else to watch 😆

OonaStubbs · 28/07/2025 18:20

Why should football be on a different channel? Why does it "take over" channels more than any other programmes do?

What would BBC and ITV normally be showing at 5pm on a Sunday?

MaddestGranny · 28/07/2025 18:21

I seem to remember hearing that women's football was banned in 1920s because it was more popular than men's football and the women's teams were winning more trophies.

Someone on here will know the exact info., I expect.
More power to the Lionesses.

I'm the least sporty person in the world, but that might have been different if there had been more space & opportunity for girls to do stuff when I was at school and more interesting reporting of women's team sports throughout my adulthood.
I'm an old lady now, so it's academic. Maybe I could take up croquet?

stressedabouthousesitu · 28/07/2025 18:22

So many men seem incredibly triggered by the women's game, but there are many men out there who are incredibly invested in supporting it too thankfully. My daughter's under-11 football team has two amazing male coaches who take it incredibly seriously. They are wonderful role models and completely committed to their success.

The women's game needs much more investment over time to continue to develop the talent piepline though - when I take my daughter to training or matches the girls are massively outnumbered by the boys and always relegated to the worst pitch and given less time.

So all those arguing about teenage boys teams easily beating the England women's team are also kind of missing the point that teenage boys in this country have probably been playing football constantly since they were 5 and had tons of training and support and investment in developing skill and agility that the girls generally just don't get. I personally don't think comparing men and women's football in that way is helpful anyway and is just a way of sneering at women who have achieved huge things in their own right.

We need to focus on encouraging women and girls into all sports and giving them the same coaching, investment and encouragement that men get. Because, as evidenced by my daughter, they love it, it builds their confidence and strength and their agility and shows them they can do anything they put their minds to.

Vynalbob · 28/07/2025 18:29

I think I saw this bloke posting similar on Facebook. Unfortunately there were some like-minded fragile males on there agreeing, as well as some wind up merchants trying to make him bust a blood vessel. I think people that are that extreme with their hatred of women really need to be kept an eye on the same way other zealots are watched.
If these men live with anyone I really feel sorry for them.

Personally I think some sports (women's teams) are more watchable, football and tennis being 2 examples bit less power but more skill and finesse and a lot less over acting, outright dives and bad behaviour.
imo if anyone's argument contains the phrase "shoved down our throats" they don't have a point and are just sad lonely little angry folk.

HereWeGo1234 · 28/07/2025 18:30

Did u see what Joey Barton said on Twitter 😳 ? Awful but for whatever reason women’s footy is not as popular. Female footballers are generally not as well known yet. I don’t think England were great in the first half but they were a lot better in the second half and despite a lot of poor penalties they managed a win.
The big positives are that lots of young girls are hopefully going to take up football and that can only be a good thing.

Trumpthecant · 27/07/2025 18:09

Dunno, cause he’s a prick? My husband was cheering the ladies on.

Mine too and he’s a massive football fan, we were watching with DS12 and DD 19 and all supporting - we are on holiday and there were lots of English men watching it, and supporting I should add.

exaltedwombat · 28/07/2025 18:36

Were you really listening to talk radio, or were you looking at that clip that’s gone moderately viral on YouTube/Facebook?

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 28/07/2025 18:41

I'd like ALL sport on a separate channel - male and female alike.
I resent my viewing being disturbed by it

There were only 16 goalless draws in 380 games of Premier League football in 2024/25 season.

And only 11 0-0 draws in the whole of the 2023/24 PL season.

God no. I make it my business to not pay any attention to what that cockwomble posts. Right now I think most people would struggle to name any of the men’s senior football squad but the women? Yeah, I know a lot of us could. Including the subs…

Do you watch TV like it's the 1970s where you lock in one channel for the evening and watch whatever programmes are delivered to you?

It's 2025. Don't you own a remote control?

Yeah, who are Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Jordan Pickford and Marcus Rashford? Never heard of them.

@Ontobetterthings at least they can bring it home. 😁😆😂 how childish. Plenty people wanted to watch it i am sure. I am not into football, but watched the penalties.
