Angry men about womens football

Ontobetterthings · 27/07/2025 18:03

I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Do people really expect the world to cater to their likes and dislikes? Over 12 million people watched the final. You’ll have to catch up on Corrie another time.

madhouse123 · 28/07/2025 19:02

Some men get very emotional about these things! We all know there are many channels to watch but some little minds can't move on from that. I suggest he goes for a warm bath or has an early night. I don't care for tennis but because I'm a level headed woman, I pick up the remote and change the channel, without getting upset 🤷‍♀️

OonaStubbs · 28/07/2025 19:05

I honestly don't think that many men are angry about womens football.

All the men I have spoken to at work today watched the match and were thrilled with the victory.

Are they excited as they would be with a men's Euro win? Probably not. But that doesn't really matter.

So I support my local club and since the women’s team got promoted to the WSL a few years ago, and the men’s team started playing regular European football making it more difficult to get tickets for the Men’s games.

For the last few years we have attended 80% of the WSL home games, usually with hospitality tickets, which gives my kids the chance to meet players etc…. including Hannah Hampton (when she played for us).

We still get tickets for the men’s game, mostly cup competitions and the odd premiership game.

To be honest the WSL games have a much better family vibe, and are much more fun to watch!

The last men’s game I went to we scored in the first 10 minutes and just played defensively for the other 85 minutes- it was fairly dull!

The lionesses success is fantastic, and men who have an issue with women’s football have a dreadful case of ‘sour grapes’

I guess they find it emasculating, and I expect they also wine about players ‘taking the knee’ and wearing rainbow armbands whilst wanking off to the photo of Vinny Jones crushing Gaza’s nuts… in the ‘good old days’ when football was just ‘for men’!!!

And any half-decent men's club tennis player would win the Wimbledon ladies Championship, but so what? They won't be competing in it.

Bit like the boxing fiasco, with the man winning gold.

I have seen way too many comments on other forums and videos from men saying “yeah but they’re still shit! They lost again 15 year olds” right. Women are built differently, the games are going to be completely different, of course they are! There is a 15 year old playing on the Arsenal men’s team, so in actual fact 15 year old boys have the potential to be playing on par with men’s championship team players. Women are playing other women, who are at the same level they are, just like England men’s team are players men’s team who are on par with them. It worries me how angry I have seen some men get about England winning the women’s Euros!

I saw this too. He's in the minority and a total dickhead!

HamsRo · 28/07/2025 19:34

I know the exact phone call you are on about as I heard it too. He was saying 'I can't stand it!'

I just thought don't watch it then you prick.

placemats · 28/07/2025 19:35

Football isn't coming home, it's staying home.

YourUglySister · 27/07/2025 18:34

I’m interested to find out if the women roll around on the floor and feign injury as much as the men do or if they just get on with it. Grin

They just get on with it. Nowhere near as many displays of gymnastics, rolly pollies and grabbing of limbs with terrible acting skills 😂

Orangeandpinknails · 28/07/2025 19:37

He clearly has mental health issues

But he can't escape from it! It's on BOTH of the "main channels", literally being pushed down his throat!

ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmmmmmmmm · 28/07/2025 20:00

Comparison is the thief of joy. The men's and women's game are completely different in the way they are played. Very much like tennis. One is not better than the other. They are fundamentally dissimilar. The problems arise when people start pontificating that x female would find a home in any men's premier league team. It's just not true.

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 20:01

Women, so selfish taking up 2 out of 100s of channel available! In other news I’ve just seen Leah Williamson’s girlfriend, god that woman really is leading her best life 🤣

Bringmeahigherlove · 28/07/2025 20:14

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/07/2025 18:23

I saw a clip of that - he was just a dickhead I think!

The whole thing about “give them their own channel” - why does he think bbc and itv are more men’s than women’s channels??

Probably the same kind of dickhead who says “what about straight pride?!”

It is pretty amusing watching some men get irate over women’s football. Their fragile little egos ruined.

She's Miss America!

I said it earlier in the thread but Lucy Bronze played with a fracture in her leg the whole Tourno, and they all knew it. If you needed any more proof that women just crack in with it - there it is!
it’s one of the best thing about watching women play, a lot less of the showpony rolling around followed by a miraculous recovery once a free kick or a card has been given. It’s almost like they just want to get on with playing…

I’m enough to remember when ‘simulation’ ie diving was something shameful that the England men’s team treated with distain as a bit of an Italian thing to do… and not how teams wanted to win - better to win with skill and fight than faking.

Of course she is. LOOK at her. Jesus wept, I bet she’s a lovely person too…

What problems arise?

The problems arise when men and women are spoilt and churlish about the Euros.

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 20:25

Might you Leah herself isn’t exactly struggling in the looks dept, as well as being fit, skilled, captain of her national team… leave something for the rest of us, Leah.

bombastix · 28/07/2025 20:39

Another male who isn’t bothered about women’s football it seems. Probably asleep during the game

Angry men about womens football
TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 20:59

Christ, if you can tell that squirrel is a fella from there, your eyes are a lot better than mine.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 28/07/2025 21:19

Hey lets look at this again.
Not a great fan of Women playing traditional Mens so called Sports to be honest.

But it was an important Euro Competition. So did rank right up there fir the Woens team.

Didn't watch the final but l think they did win it. So good for them l

They have done a lot better than the Mens team in the equivalent Euros !!! Ho de ho.

I personally am not, a tennis fan but we all have to endure BBC blanket coverage of Wimbledon on BBC 1 and 2 every year.

Also the dreaded Snooker World Championship. Lets all die of boredom whih seens to go on forever fir weeks each year.

Plus l nearly forgot Test Match Cricket!!!

I rest my case.

⚽🎾🏏

YesterdaysFuture · 28/07/2025 21:20

There have been two threads on this which have run on very similar themes, which seems to be that enjoyment of women's football is dependent on validation from men.

An angry man on a phone-in doesn't like it? Was that all it took to spoil your enjoyment? The other thread was drew anger about a husband didn't want to watch it. So what?

Do people really need male permission to enjoy something?

Cricket hasn't been shown on normal TV for many years.

Snooker and Wimbledon do monster ratings. Plus they are scheduled at the same time of the year each year. No "normal programmes" are disrupted because of it. The snooker and the tennis ARE the "normal programmes" for those weeks.

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 21:48

Right, just as football is ‘normal’ for the majors tournaments where home nations are playing? All good then. Laughing at that snooker one though 😳🤣
