I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

I don't personally want to watch it because the pace just doesn't appeal to me in much the same way as watching lower league football doesn't appeal to me. But I don't exactly struggle to not watch it so there's no need to be so bloody dramatic about it.

TheAverageJoanne · 28/07/2025 14:23

The women's Tour de France started over the weekend. It's had sod all coverage.

Who on earth said this? Confused The match last night proved that women are as good at playing football than men. (possibly a bit better!)😆 Men are not 'better' at anything. They are just stronger (physically) than women, and are usually raised to be 'better' at trades. Men are not 'better' than women!

Of course not, they're different, that's all. Which is why we have men's tournaments and women's tournaments. It's all relative. Which is what Sharron Davies and others are so right about.

How much do you think is invested in German or Spanish or French professional footballers?

@MasterBeth

so what’s your point? I don’t agree with that either. All I’m saying is that England men’s footballers not the best but England’s women players are. The women are doing better than the men. What’s your issue with that? Can you not bear it? Internalised misogyny

My point is that your original post in this thread is wrong. You said:

England men’s football is shite! They never win.

But it's not shite. The fact that the women have won the last Euros doesn't mean that the men, who have finished as runners-up in the last two Euros, are shite.

Gently, that might be their opinion, which doesn't make it wrong, just their opinion. And if you want to be pedantic about it - it is factual that they never win.

I totally agree that its not worth comparing the two however. Some people just dont enjoy women's football and that's fine. I don't particularly enjoy Premier league mens football, although I do like watching my local very low ranked mens team.

Mmm, they’re not winning though, are they? Not a sniff since 1966 which was a very long time ago. Despite all the money, they hype, the investment.
Once Sarina’s ready to move on maybe she could have a look at the men’s team.

MasterBeth · 28/07/2025 15:54

"Gently", the second best team in the continent and the fourth best team in the world are not shite. That's why they play all those sports games - so we can see who's good and who isn't. The England men's team is objectively really good, and Cherrytree. One of the four best teams in the world!

Again, "not a sniff" is a reductive and silly .

Of course they haven't won the World Cup since 1966 or the Euros ever. No-one can refute that.

But England retained the UEFA U21 men's trophy in 2025 having won it in 2023. The U20s and U 17s have won the World Cup and the U19s the European championship in the last decade. The Men have reached the last two Euro finals, losing one on penalties and one by the odd goal.

Yep, I said that because they don’t WIN. The women do. They just have. Yay! Let’s just celebrate the massive achievement of these women shall we? Men don’t need to feature in everything and anything.

Boomer55 · 28/07/2025 16:38

As a female, I don’t actuality want to watch it. But a lot of men I know do. Each to their own 🤷‍♀️

Everanewbie · 28/07/2025 16:39

So much stupid crap being spoken.

Why can't we watch the Lionesses and celebrate their success with all these stupid comparisons with the men's game? They're different sports. Past experiences show that elite under 16 boys teams would likely get a comfortable win against the best women's teams, but so what?

Those used to the men's game may initially find the slower pace and and lower physicality frustrating, but they should try watch it on its own merits and enjoy the lionesses compared to other women's teams. If you still don't like it, fine. But an increasing number of people do like it, which is great.

OonaStubbs · 28/07/2025 16:42

I do not think women will ever get obsessed with football the way men are, the way they can go up to each other and start a conversation talking about last night's match etc. I remember boys at schools drawing up their ideal team on the back of their exercise books etc, maybe girls are doing that now, I don't know.

placemats · 28/07/2025 17:18

Men's football relys heavily on betting adverts. That's why I choose to no longer watch it.

So much better to watch the women's game.

Never met a woman IRL who refers to themselves ‘ as a female’…

Pelsall116 · 28/07/2025 17:50

There are some men who are just annoyed that the women's team have progressed further than the men's teams have and have "brought it home" which none of our men's teams have managed to do since 1966.....

They are. Particularly the girls who play in teams ( now they can) and there are a LOT of them. And they’re collecting stickers for their sticker books. And they’re talking about taking pens or saving pens or how good a match was or how amazing Chloe Kelly is/was… imagine that. Taking part in a team sport that you love, being able to watch players who look like you, celebrating their wins, being inspired, enjoying it.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 28/07/2025 17:53

My late DH was a semi pro footballer and he always admired the pro women, I’d rather take his word for it.

user1476277375 · 28/07/2025 17:53

The thing i found unbelievable was one of the commentators comments about Chloe Kelly when she came on, talking about how it was her first wedding anniversary with her husband this week. WTF!!?? What on earth has that got to do with her footballing?! That kind of comment would never be said in a men's international final!

I don't know that it wouldn't be said in a men's match.

And the commentators rightly or wrongly were probably trying to appeal to women viewers who they thought that might be interesting to.

Misogyny. The ‘shoved down throats’ comment is also misogyny.

No it isn't. "Shoved down throats" does not equate to hatred of women.

I'll admit I was entranced by it !! She looked amazing in her wedding dress, I immediately went away and googled it 😆

PerspicaciaTick · 28/07/2025 17:59

There is an awful lot of programming on TV that is Not Men's Football.
There is music, drama, news, quizzes, other NMF sports such as F1, snooker and rugby.
Yet these sad little men only get frothy about women playing football.

Nikki7506 · 28/07/2025 18:01

Jealous the guys can't do the same........bet his wife only agrees with him to shut him up.
What a great tournament! The ladies were sublime 😘😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💖
