I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

@MasterBeth

england mens team still lost at end of day. They are not the best. Not like the lionesses. And all the money that’s pumped into male football - shocking. They just not good enough.

Again, a silly knee-jerk, ignorant point of view.

"They just not good enough."

As if it's only in England that money is pumped into mens' football! The whole point of elite sport is that everyone, everywhere is trying to win. Men's football is the most widely played sport in the world.

The Lionesses have never won the World Cup. Are they just not good enough? No, it's more complicated than that.

HerewardtheSleepy · 28/07/2025 11:40

He's a pillock. Simple as that.

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 11:45

England’s Men aren’t good enough, despite being paid 10s of millions. And having 100s of millions invested them.
Perhaps having a manager like Sarina would help them, and Lucy Bronze advising on what real grit & resilience looks like, and perhaps the rest of the women’s team showing them what mutual respect, bonding and a determination to win can do.
That might help?

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 11:50

Oh, and someone pointing out that if you actually stay on your feet more instead of diving at every chance you get, and getting back up on your feet to keep playing after a genuine knock instead of rolling around like you’ve been tasered, waving at the ref for a card to be shown… they might score more?
I’ve coached girls and boys, and a big difference is how quick the girls are to jump
up and play on versus the boys acting like they’ve been kneecapped, rolling around clutching random untouched parts of their body.
Role models. That’s the difference.

No, that's just an inverse reflection of the stupid male bullshit you hear about women's football.

England's men don't lack grit or a determination to win. They are super-elite athletes, mentally and physically, whose enormous pay packets reflect the value they have on the world stage. They are insanely good. But, guess what, so are the Spanish and the Germans and the Argentinians and the French. It's really hard to win a World Cup.

oh I know it’s not just England that put stupid amounts of money into men’s football, but still doesn’t make it any better - I mean when you think about the state of our NHS for example it’s shocking. The men should be better than what they are .

I disagree. They aren’t very good, but I’m not demanding their matches aren’t televised. I’m not angry about it. It doesn’t give me the rage. It’s just an opinion.

randomchap · 28/07/2025 11:57

The money in the men's game is because it's so hugely popular. The advertising revenue, merchandise sales, tickets etc bring in billions.

It's essentially entertainment, and the best players get paid so much as they bring in the money.

Hopefully the women's game will get more popular and the women will start to see those salaries too.

They are the fourth best team in the world. The fourth best team in world football is clearly very good.

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 11:59

‘Insanely good’ did make me laugh! ‘Insanely over-rated’ would be more accurate IMHO. They don’t have that winning as a team mentality. Too many egos. Still, they’ll keep plugging away, I’m sure.

and? Where are the winners medals? Where’s the Euro Trophy? When is the World Cup trophy ‘coming home’? soon? Never?

Radioundermypillow · 28/07/2025 12:02

England men are technically excellent. But they always crumble under pressure, and the other international teams are often superior technically.

I much prefer watching women's football. More human, more drama. Not as technically accomplished but I don't care about that as long as we are winning 😉

I'm bloody glad the women are retiring Footballs Coming Home as well. Cursed men's team anthem!

Top level athletes are. It’s difficult to comprehend just how good they actually are. The speed at which they do things isn’t something the average person can get remotely close to doing. One of my DS’s friends plays for a youth academy of a professional team and when he used to play in regular football it was like he was playing an entirely different sport, he’s that good. Yet the chances of him being a pro are slim to none because he likely isn’t good enough. It’s the same in any sport, my DH and I do a lot of running and he’s finished top 30 in a 10k race of about 1,000 yet he’s nowhere near the best in that race and they’re nowhere near the best in the sport.
There’s joke I often see about putting a regular person in the Olympics to see how good those competitors are and that’s the only way you see it.

I think the vast majority of people believe that Olympians are the best at what they do?

Who knows? International elite sport is tough.

You are not only good if you win.

No clue about the documentary. But the FA's ban on women's football was liften in 1971 in the UK! Are we really surprised that it isn't as well established as men's?

I'm just linking the German article about how women are technically playing in a field (and with balls, goals etc.) made for men or how the game would be different if we were to take the physical differences into account (in this experiment by changing the men's size of field, balls etc).

https://www.srf.ch/sport/fussball/uefa-women-s-euro-2025/women-s-euro-frauen-sind-die-heldinnen-im-fussball-wissenschaftlich-belegt

Not sure tbh.

There is an ongoing argument in the mens game that the goals should actually be bigger.

I think the mens game often looks pretty crowded and it is hard to make space.

At the moment the pitch size is probably to the detriment of the womens game, but my guess is that as the players improve the womens game will become more interesting (for me anyway) as the players will effectively have more space, and the exploitation of space is one of the things that makes football exciting.

I think there is also the fact that having a common pitch helps the game in terms of facilities rather than hinders it.

Listen, if the Men ever win a major tournament I will watch and I cheer and celebrate them. I won’t say it didn’t count, that it was a shit competition, that all the teams are crap, that they were lucky, that the oppo was shite, that it shouldn’t be on tv, that no-one cares etc.
Mainly because I’m not some man baby who can’t cope with something they don’t particularly have stake in being a success.

You sound like a big woman baby, though, who doesn't understand elite sport.

camperjam · 28/07/2025 12:12

I don't understand why some women are so enthusiastic about slating female athletes. What does anyone ever benefit from that? If you don't want to watch it then don't but don't try to look like a cool girl by dragging other women down.

Watch it with the personal attacks? You sound like a manspainer manspaining elite sport to someone who played an elite sport. But again, just an opinion.

WordsFailMeYetAgain · 28/07/2025 12:18

Probably because the women can do what the men have consistently failed to do and that's WIN! So proud of them all!

because of everything that is invested in them.

Radioundermypillow · 28/07/2025 12:25

It's a shame, but typical, that every thread about the Lionesses ends up being about men's football. I'm going to stop myself doing it.
