He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Is that you Joey Barton???? Men are always better. Right. You know who says that? Really, REALLY fucking insecure men. I don’t think they even believe.
Who hurt you, Joey. Was it Mother?????

Ummm, what? Confused Did you mean to quote another poster? Because I have NO idea what you are going on about. I never said men are better than women. I said quite the opposite actually. Calm down. Who's Joey Barton? I'm a bit confused. Blush

Joey Barton is a former player and manager. He's a complete and total dickhead.

Basically the gammonist of gammon when it comes to the women's game. Alongside other unpleasant and hateful opinions

I envy you as you've not come across his idiocy and hatred before.

MokaEfti · 28/07/2025 09:43

I’m sure I heard there is some kind of documentary about the history of women’s football on IPlayer or somewhere - but I just can’t find it. Does anyone know?

Women’s tennis players aren’t comically poor. Hope they win for you, but I’m personally not interested either way.

And yet here you are. 😆

I don't know of any man who would choose to watch it, my husband and not one of his mates or his colleagues, would. Appreciate that they don't represent the whole of the males in the country etc.

Personally, would I watch it, no, I think its dire.

Thats not a very nice thing to say about the mens game....

OrangeSlices998 · 28/07/2025 10:05

I just don’t understand why it makes them so angry! I hate cricket or golf, so so so so boring - do I get pissed off there’s articles about it and it’s on TV? No! I just don’t watch and don’t engage 🤷‍♀️

My husband watched with me and our friends yesterday because he loves the sport and it’s something we watch together - men and women. Oh and he isn’t a massive gammon

MokaEfti · 28/07/2025 10:06

Thank you @randomchap
will definitely check that out 👍

England men’s football is shite! They never win. They might have got to finals a couple of times with Gareth Southgate but they still lost at end of day, no prizes for coming second, they’re never the best. Not like the Lionesses.

This is such an ignorant view.

The England mens' team are the 4th best team in the world, under the FIFA rankings. They have improved their position over the last decade or so. They have reached the two last Euros finals and were knocked out of the last two World Cups by the eventual finallists.

Is Spanish women's football shite because they lost yesterday? No.

Men's football is much more established. There is much greater strength in depth in the men's game. There is less high-level competition in becoming the best women's football nation than the best men's football nation. This is not a gendered view - it's also easier for England men to be among the world's best at cricket and rugby because it is played at a high level in fewer nations than men's football.

You can't really compare mens' and womens' football directly. It's amazing that we have won the women's Euros twice in succession - a fantastic achievement - but it's not really relevant to compare it to the mens' achievements.

Would they? Would they really??? 🤔

Yes, they would.

MasterBeth · 28/07/2025 10:13

randomchap · 28/07/2025 09:10

Football is about skill, strength, speed. The women's team have the skills to match the mens team. But they don't have the physical strength and speed which means they would lose.

But it really doesn't matter.

It was a great victory for the Lionesses, they were amazing and showed great determination to never give up.

It's possible to celebrate this victory without comparing the players to men. Just celebrate their achievements.

The women do not have the skills of the mens' team. They are a long way behind.

Tia247 · 28/07/2025 10:16

Why didn't HE just watch a different channel. What a twunt.

brunettemic · 28/07/2025 10:20

TaupeLemur · 28/07/2025 09:19

‘The men’s team would annihilate the women’s team, which is why they don’t play each other.’

Thats not the reason they don’t play it each other. There are many other reasons why, but that one? Bottom of the list?
in terms of relevance to women’s sport and the England WOMENS Euro winners though it’s right up there with ‘Who would win in a fight? 1 giant horse or 100 tiny horses???’

You missed the point. Physically the women’s team are roughly a men’s under 15s team (according to international women’s team coaches). Technically it’s hard to judge because the physical differences mask it somewhat but it’s clearly still lower, which is fine. They don’t play each other because they’re basically different sports and the relative qualities are light years apart. It would do untold damage to the women’s game that is rightly getting a lot of positive attention over the last few years. The quality has come on leaps and bounds from an initially very low base to a relatively decent level. What the game needs now is to forge its own identity and not have people trying to compare the two, it needs its own focus, female specific equipment (boots are a primary example) etc.

TempestTost · 28/07/2025 10:24

Some people are just nasty weirdos. I don't like watching any football, so I don't.

placemats · 28/07/2025 10:29

MasterBeth · 28/07/2025 10:13

The women do not have the skills of the mens' team. They are a long way behind.

Well certainly not as skilled as the men in the over dramatic reaction to a legitimate tackle.

Anyway how could anyone who watched the match yesterday not appreciate the fabulous skills and thrills of the football on display from both sides; are you blind referee?

Luckyingame · 28/07/2025 10:33

I'm a woman and I think it's BS.
There isn't such a thing as women's football taken seriously in my country of origin.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 28/07/2025 10:36

LuckysDadsHat · 27/07/2025 18:16

A lot of men say its rubbish compared to the men's game and the men would beat them over and over. The women play a very different game and yes the men's team would beat them, just like the men's 100m finals would beat the women's 100m finals.

Its pure misogny. My husband actually enjoys watching the women's game (no, not like that) as he says yes its a played a different way, but its still a good game!

Scientists apaprently calculated how men's football would need to be adapted if they wanted to play in conditions comparable to those women currently play in.

The news article (in German) linked below starts with:

But this overlooks one crucial factor: women have to perform more physically than men in every aspect of the game. But how much more?

One example: women play with the same balls as men – even though these are heavier and more unwieldy for them. Turning the tables, the question arises: How big and heavy would a ball have to be for men to play under the same conditions as women?

Some Swiss clubs apparently tried it for one game. They adapted the size of goals to correspond to average arm lenght, increased the size of the field, had larger / heavier balls, increased the lenght of the game...

No clue about the documentary. But the FA's ban on women's football was liften in 1971 in the UK! Are we really surprised that it isn't as well established as men's?

I'm just linking the German article about how women are technically playing in a field (and with balls, goals etc.) made for men or how the game would be different if we were to take the physical differences into account (in this experiment by changing the men's size of field, balls etc).

Not only does my husband choose to watch it, he’s also on the board of the local women’s team and does a lot to support women’s football.
Lots of men support the women’s game, just look at the many awesome videos of Ian Wright responding to the games.

Freefromdesire · 28/07/2025 10:45

Womens football is great, the only problem I see is that I don't feel there will be enough time on talksport in a day, to talk about both. So maybe in the future there will be a split and two channels. Both men's and women's are just as important.I'm female BTW.

Of course they do. @Lanzarotelady appears to only know the type of gammon faced blokes who queue at 6am for sunbeds in their wife beaters… we watched it in pretty much a 50/50 mixed sex crowd, including a lot of kids, boys and girls. There were men, women, mums, dads, coaches of girls and boys teams…
It’s always a surprise to me at how many men, and sometimes women, claim how shite women’s football is when saying they never watch it…

england mens team still lost at end of day. They are not the best. Not like the lionesses. And all the money that’s pumped into male football - shocking. They just not good enough.

I was quoting another poster and I can't remember who - there was a suggestion that they believed men to be better than women across the board and I was seeking clarification that surely, this is not what they meant 🙄. But given some of the commentary on this thread, who knows? I only hope they don't have daughters.
