I dont get why people are saying "Oh and U14 boys team could beat them" Well thats comparing apples with oranges.

Its a completely different game. Same rules, send end result but played in a totally different way.

You don't seem to understand the finances or scheduling needs of television. Broadcasters have slots to fill and budgets to hit. They don't have infinite slots and infinite budgets. They are not going to put hugely popular programmes like the finals of live international football tournaments on minor channels just because you want to watch Pointless or Antiques Roadshow like you always do.

www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/bbc1-england-denmark-king-france-b1202504.html

They do though. Streaming.
I’ve never said minor channels. I’ve said red button/iplayer. They do it for the Olympics. Glastonbury. Lots of things.

OK but they are still tactics used in football, they aren't playing it with their hands are they?

Well, that's rules, not tactics.

Give me an example of different tactics and how they may the womens game so different that it is reasonable for people to declare that it is unwatchable compare to the mens?

northernballer · 27/07/2025 21:06

If you compare that caller to a man like Ian Wright who is a massive supporter of the women's game at all levels it's so easy to tell who is the most secure in their own abilities and has the happier life.

We shouldn't allow ourselves to be distracted by some angry men on the radio or random mumsnetters telling us their husbands and colleagues are refusing to watch it as the quality is so poor. The women played, the women won. Watch it or don't, the team won't care either way and nor should the rest of us.

Hahaha, just because someone has a different opinion than you and your husband, it doesn't make them narrow minded or a Neanderthal.

You are , of course, correct that having different opinions is not the definition of narrow mindedness etc But the actual opinion you expressed, does point in that direction.

Rewis · 27/07/2025 21:07

If there is something on tv that I dont care about, I have this magical stick thay chanhes channel. And if nothing is on, I can choose from dozen streaming services. And if that still doesn't work, I'll read a book.

It is very baffling how people are so offended that women's football exists and they cant possibly humanly understand that there are people who care just because they don't. I dont know anyone who gives a fuck about F1, but i have enough imagination to think that someone cares and I can appreciate it is their thing

Exactly it’s not 1992, we have a vast array of channels now so it doesn’t need to be shown on the main channels. I totally understand it in the past when we had 4 channels to choose from but broadcasters have more options now because it’s not 1992.

What exactly are you watching at 4pm on a Sunday that can't be interrupted? Because it's usually repeats of wildlife shows, and game shows.

It's not really the tactics. It's just that the level of athleticism between men and women is so vast. There's not a female alive that can touch somebody like Ronaldo in his prime.

That said, I much prefer watching the women's football because we actually stand a decent shot at winning.

The women's Euros Final is likely to be the biggest rated programme of the week so it makes every sense to put it on ITV1 and BBC1.

We watched on ITV and the ads were major paying types, fast food, energy drink, the usual that pay high amounts. Good to see the players can have the ratings, sponsorship and pay

I'm not able to do that as it's not an opinion I hold.

SabreIsMyFave · 27/07/2025 21:11

What a silly twat he is. Grin

I know LOADS of people who have been excited by/wrapped up in the Womens Euro Tournament this year. Men and women. Each time they play, more people are getting invested. I have been very excited about it this year. My DH AND my brother, say the women play better than the men! 😆 I can't argue with that tbh!

Much of my DCs generation (mid 20s to mid 30s) have been watching it (male and female.) Absolute bollocks that no-one wants to watch it. That man can get back in his time machine and fuck off back to the 1970s and take his shitty sexism with him. 🖕

sciaticafanatica · 27/07/2025 21:11

@2021xits just an opinion.
im entitled to one .
just because I’m female does not mean I must like and praise women’s football.
i don’t enjoy men’s football either.

AInightingale · 27/07/2025 21:11

So many vicious comments from men on X about the quality of the penalties taken. I mean, I would have thought given the England men's team history with sudden death play-offs they might just keep it buttoned, but no.

I bet they're all rightly sickened that the women's team are the ones to break the curse though. 🤣

This. And also, so what? Can't people just enjoy what they enjoy? Good game is a good game wether it is 40+men's pub league, women's 5-a-side or a pro game. My team would defo lose to every WSL team, does it mean my teams shouldn't exist? Does it mean that family and friends coming to watch are somehow wrong?
Should world cup be payed behind closed doors and no television and then just televise the final? Makes sense, cause what's the post of watching teams that are not the best.

BeachPebbleWave · 27/07/2025 21:13

I would love someone more diligent than me to research the mainstream TV that has been missed/rescheduled due to the Women’s Euros over the last couple of weeks.

I think Antiques Roadshow is late, was a One Show missed? Is this what the men are angry about?

One would argue that lower leagues of football still get more audience then the highest level of womens football even though elite women players are more athletic.

Maybe we should consider making the pitch smaller, and the goals larger to accomodate, so the women can be just as athletic as the men?

Grin I reckon the men who are being shitty and negative about the women playing - and winning - the football, are just sour, and bitter, that the women can play football better than the men. 😂 #sux4u

Would you agreethat people who use this talking point as a reason to not value/watch/support the England Womens Team would be unreasonable?

NotfinanciallyresponsibleforyouSadTimes · 27/07/2025 21:15

At the end of the day the Lionesses have won back-to-back Euros!

What have England’s male team got in the trophy cupboard? Nothing in recent history!

lifeturnsonadime · 27/07/2025 21:17

It's blindingly obvious that men or older teenage boys are physically more capable than women.

I have no idea why people feel the need to point this out.

This is why we need to protect female sporting categories.

It is not an argument against the existence of women's competition or the skill/ athleticism of female players.

The Lionesses were brilliant tonight, so resilient.

My husband and son loved the match.

My daughter plays cricket not football, the challenges that females face in playing traditionally male sports are not to be underestimated. They face sexism everywhere.

Men being sexist is nothing new.

Women supporting sexism is disappointing.

WaryCrow · 27/07/2025 21:18

Angry man demonstrating just why women around the world are asking themselves why they want to risk their life, health and happiness reproducing this species. [shrug]

He has watched games in the past, and as a result no longer watches games.

Oh cool. Fair enough. I used to watch the England men the 80s/90s when I thought they might be in with a chance. But they weren’t, they were shit and didn’t win then and haven’t since. I mean it’s almost the same as the women not winning isn’t it? Isn’t it?

elfies · 27/07/2025 21:21

Our male footballers would do better without the amateur dramatics !
If our ladies declared their gender as male , and played against the men , I think they'd stand a blooming good chance .

cringforyou · 27/07/2025 21:23

It’s actually so bad it’s quite funny. The level of absolute mad anger. It’s so unreasonable it’s hilarious.
