I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

I think you are making the same argument. The same size goal is defended by a 6'4" male keeper and a 5'9" female keeper, for example. The way of playing that position is different for the two players.

No the game is still the same. Same rules, and positions and tactics and same dedication to fitness, and skill as the mens game.

When people say the "game is different" what they mean ithey are unable to read the plays as well as they would a mens game, because they don't watch enough of it.

It’s just like when women moan about Mens football being on the main channels. You see it on here all the time

I can't stand football (or sport) of any kind so at least I'm consistent 😆 It is good that women's sports are being covered more though.

TheHateIsNotGood · 27/07/2025 20:37

Yet again women show men how it's done....Penalty Shoot out? Done, won and that mythical curse is broken. And it doesn't make women the 'master' sex nor do we want to 'wield' power over men and subjugate them...after all two wrongs don't make a right as the old saying goes.

Marvellous result for UK women and I'm not a football 'fan' but played a bit of goal for Sunday men's 'scratch' teams in the 80s and did well but if my boyfriend at the time didn't also play then I'd be determined as 'gay' as I often was anyway. For really stupid reasons like riding a motorcycle and not taking shit.

Finally found some like-minded ladies in the 90s who liked to play rugby and turns out us women are pretty good at that too.

I feel a bit sorry for most men nowadays, only a few try and subjugate women now - but we women shouldn't try and get them back for all the harm they have done us and be the better people that helps to create a truly equal society.

I can offer you some YouTube videos of Full matches if you're interested?

I am sure you are quite correct. I’d also hazard a very educated guess that you are not at all well versed in the opportunity for progression for boys compared to girls at a grassroots level.

So what actually is your point? Boys who have had a lifetime of opportunity being able to move between a plethora of teams/days/playing slots in their local area are better than women (who aside from physical differences), face a genuine gap between incredibly limited grassroots teams/ still emerging newly formed leagues and higher level sport often having to travel if they are half good and can actually find a team that is as rare as hen’s teeth. And then they are still put on shit pitches at shit times.

You sound like an angry husband who’s wife has let them play with the big girls on Mumsnet. Regardless, you should do some real research on your local women and girl’s football opportunities compared to men and boys, rather than search out videos to try and prove a ridiculous and pointless point around young males being superior to young women.

lronWoman · 27/07/2025 20:39

There's always going to be sexist men and women. It's best not to give them airtime but some posters will never miss an opportunity to rattle on about misogyny.

But they are not the same tactics as the men's game. They are optimised for the physical characteristics of the players.

Of course he is, but if OP heard the same clip I did, there was real fury that women dared to play football. He said he was a massive football fan but hated how women’s football was “shoved down our throats”. Is he fucking kidding? As someone who doesn’t like any football, it is men’s football that is harder to avoid, by a bloody country mile!
He also objected to all female commentators because he “hates their voices” and they should “stay out of men’s sport”.

This wasn’t someone saying “I hope they do well, I’m just not really interested” which I think is most people’s reaction to sport they don’t care about. It’s my reaction to England playing in the football, rugby, and cricket. I’m not incandescent that they dare to put it on tv.

How ironic that a man would say”women should stay out of mens sport”.When us women have been fighting to keep men out of womens sport.Great game btw and we won which is more than the mens team have done in many a year😊

He's entitled to his opinion. Same as you. Move on 🤷🏻‍♀️

You aren’t entitled to any opinion that comes from a place of misogyny or hate. That you damn well are not entitled to.

NellitheNelephant · 27/07/2025 20:39

Jealous misogynist. The teams he follows haven't done half as well as the women's. I hope his wife secretly disagrees and is planning to LTB.

They can't keep normal programming and provide additional sports programming without spending more money on programming than they have. Obviously.

They can. Obviously. Because the standard programming is already done. And if you are right, then I’d prefer they didn’t spend the money on sport. It’s boring.

BeRoseSloth · 27/07/2025 20:40

They say it’s not the same as men’s football. Has anyone told Paula Radcliffe that her three London Marathon wins weren’t the same as the men’s marathon. Same distance. Same game.

Yabberwok · 27/07/2025 20:41

Point 1 it was live on itv..in 1970 the women payed for themselves to go to the world cup.
2 talksport have championed womens football for years. Half time one of their top presenters, Adrian Durham was have a rant at Lauren James being picked as she was unfit... exactly as he would if Cole Palmer was picked in the same way...that's how womens football is treated by the pros.
3 the Swiss team recently lost 7-1 to an under 15 boys team...it is a different game and everyone needs to stop comparing it to mens football
4 personally I have always enjoyed girls football to boys as there is more passing, less emphasis on the one or two good players and more team work.
5 you will get twats everywhere... listen to their call ins regularly and as I have said as discussed with a local BBC sports presenter, 90% of football fans know fuck all about football.

TheAverageJoanne · 27/07/2025 20:42

It's not about whether they're as good as men. It's about being number one in your own world, which these women have proved they are. Twice.

But the womens world cup has always been on the schedule. It hasn't disrupted anything.

Yes it has. All t(e th8ngs that are regularly scheduled. This isn’t a point about this event, but all special events. No need for disruption of normal schedules anymore. Stop it. Sport isn’t the b all and end all. It’s boring.

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/07/2025 20:43

RT112 · 27/07/2025 20:23

I just wandering if back in the days, people were attending women football matches as a football or more some kind of circus to watch?

No it came about due to WWI and the aftermath. There were no young men around so the womens game was the only one to watch if you were a fan. But then as the young men who had been children in the war started to be old enough to play, they complained because no one wanted to watch them as the following for the womens game was massive. Thats why the FA to all intents and purposes, banned it as the menz didnt like the women being more popular than them.

Elsvieta · 27/07/2025 20:44

Because our women keep winning stuff and our men keep losing?

Jeez, you realise that the BBC have been showing Wimbledon and. World Cups for over 50 years each? You don't think they know that they don't need to make as many "regular" programmes to fill the summer schedules? You reckon they keep on banging out shows regardless of what slots they have to fill??!

So what did you miss tonight then that you would normally have watched?

And I read that the women were giving the (much larger) gate receipts to charity

So the men shut the game down.

Unfortunately for you, your view on what is and isn't boring isn't the rule by which TV is scheduled.

cobrakaieaglefang · 27/07/2025 20:46

About 10 years ago I had started in middle age to play ladies football, the men's team had kit, manager, regular facilities booked for training. The women had a 80ft x 30ft strip of mud under the light on the side of the building to train on, no kit, no manager. We brought our own ball and jumpers for goalposts!
We were challenged by a group of lads from the local pub team to a friendly 5 a side, they arriced with a swagger..when we were 3 nil up they decided to mix teams..🤣

Men can be shite. It's a different style of play, same game.
There is probably a direct correlation between these men complaining and their own lack of success at sports. and successful relationships

I do. I’m 60. I’ve always thought it was shit. But I understood when there wasn’t an alternative. Now there is. Red button/iplayer. No need to disrupt everyone else.

xanthomelana · 27/07/2025 20:47

I’ll be honest and say I find women’s football slow and boring and difficult to watch. That said I wish they’d put men’s and women’s football on itv/bbc 3,4 and whatever other channels they have because there’s never a lot on those channels and it doesn’t make sense to interrupt the main channels and not utilise the other ones.

cardibach · 27/07/2025 20:47

MasterBeth · 27/07/2025 20:46
