Each summer, we take turns to plan our own "Come Dine With Me"
This years theme is countries, and I have Britain 🇬🇧

What would you make for a British starter, main and dessert? I'm in desperate need of inspiration!

Also while you are here - what would your 'Death Row' meal be? 😋

A posh roast dinner as main, sticky toffee pudding as a dessert or syrup sponge but not sure about a starter

As it says....make stuffing with fresh white or brown breadcrumbs, (not the dried stuff you buy in packets) finely shredded onion, shallot or leek, grated lemon zest, lots of finely chopped fresh parsley and a little bit of finely chopped sage. Season with salt and pepper. Mix all together with a little butter and enough lemon juice to hold it all together. Wipe out inside iof duck thoroughly with paper towel, stuff loosely with stuffing, then roast duck as usual until the skin is crisp and brown and a skewer in the leg joint produces clear juice, not blood. Any spare stuffing can be roasted as stuffing balls, or wrapped in bacon and cooked to make bacon rolls to eat with the duck. Sorry no amounts, I make it up as I go usually.

@Bikergran this sounds glorious. Thank you!

If I was going to be on Deathrow I wouldn't be choosing British 'cuisine' 🤭 that's just cruel!

Smoked mackerel pate with sourdough very thin toast and gherkins (or salmon mousse)
Beef Wellington (or Lancashire Hotpot with braised red cabbage etc)
Apple and blackberry crumble or crème brûlée (invented at Trinity College, Cambridge according to legend!). Or Queen of Puddings….mmmmm.

Scottish smoked salmon starter

welsh lamb with potatoes, carrots and tenderstem broccoli with redcurrant gravy main

Bread and butter pudding with seasonal berries

This sounds perfect and you could always serve culcannon with the lamb.

Tomato soup

Apple pie or crumble with cream or custard

Death row -

Prawn cocktail
Poached salmon, new potatoes and salad
Chocolate nut sundae

For parties, my mum always used to do cold roast joints of beef, gammon, boned chicken, seasonal salads, probably including local watercress and possibly honegrown new potatoes and peas, bread and butter,. She loved doing puds, so crumbles, meringues, soft fruit (possibly from the garden,) fools, maybe profiteroles if time to do choux pastry. Local cream. Finished up with a British cheese board.

There were some great parties over the years.

I'd probably go for
Local watercress soup
Roast beef with everything- Local veg.
Sussex pond pudding or maybe lemon merigue
British xheese board.
(I don't eat fish, though o can otherwise see the argument for including it.)

My death row dinner would include the first Jersey royals and British asparagus, so you can only kill me off in May...
