To wonder why there isn’t more uproar about Sudan?

Sudan- where the actual worst humanitarian crisis in the world is happening right now. War, starvation, displacement of millions of people, suffering on a scale like nowhere else in the world. And yet it’s being virtually ignored. There have been maybe half a dozen threads about Sudan on mumsnet in the last year or so, compared with dozens discussing Israel/Gaza. On social media, for every one post I see mentioning Sudan, I have probably seen 20 or more about Gaza. Save The Children, for example, has posted seventeen times about Gaza in the past month and only once about Sudan.

Why? Why is Sudan being ignored while such a glaring light is being shone on Gaza? Is it because there are no Jewish people to blame for the Sudanese conflict? Or because the people suffering are black?

The only reason Gaza had a light shine on it was because of Hamas and the bombings. Gaza has been suffering for years under Israel’s treatment.

Your post is fucking awful to be honest. You didn’t come on to highlight what is happening. You didn’t suggest what people could do to help or even say what steps you’ll be taking.

You came on like a crying child, angry that people give a shit and calling people racists. Sounds like you only had one agenda for this thread.

Except I have said what people can do to help and I have said what steps I’ve already taken…

Wasn’t the point of your thread. It was a half arsed reply when pushed. Something about writing to your mp and rallies. Yet you have the audacity to question why no one cares as much as you. They do. Aid workers risk their lives.

Your main aim was to make it racial and attack white people. Tell people about Sudan. You could have made a whole post about what was happening. Why it’s happening. What is being done and what people can do.

I will wait for that thread. If one person goes on there and says no this is black people we only want to help white people I and many others will have your back.

Because gaza is the buzzword at the moment. Half the people bleating about gaza probably have no idea about the situation in sudan

My aim was to understand what is behind the gaping disparity in how one is being perceived and responded to compared with the other. You have contributed nothing to the discussion except to criticise me for not doing enough or not doing it right, and I really don’t see what makes your think you are in a position to make such judgements except your own overinflated idea of the value of your opinions.

They didn’t know about Gaza either. Now people know and are finally talking about it. It didn’t take the pain and suffering in Gaza though remember. It took a bomb where the rest of the world was affected. Even then it was all about Hamas and not the normal people in Gaza.

Instead of finding positives there are actually people who would rather no one cared. Or only cared about one thing. What a twatty comment.

It took longer for someone to make the leap from “you don’t think Gaza is the worst crisis in the world right now” (which it isn’t) to “you are an Islamophobic genocide supporter” than I expected but whoomp, there it is!!

I’m actually on the posts regarding Gaza. So little comments like yours to stir up hate and accusations really piss me off and I couldn’t ignore it.

Im all for people bringing things to others attention. That is not what you were trying to do. You could have written something and actually got the right attention. But no! Think I’m at a point today after seeing some stupid posts online and then your comment and one other on here popped up and made me think ah just shut the fuck up you nasty excuses for humans.

Im done now. Thankyou for the chance to vent.

There isn't any excuse for not knowing about the situation before 7th October. Breathtaking ignorance really. No wonder the claims to care deeply about it ring so hollow.

I don’t disagree. But the conversations I had after the bombings, happened here as well very much pointed in the direction of completely zero knowledge. So…

But I happily explained, pointed them in a direction to learn a bit. Now I’m surrounded by people who agree and others who may have gone too far the other way.

Please don't equate the actions of the Israeli government with Jews in general.

Isxmasoveryet · 26/07/2025 19:31

Because social media hasn't told people to be annoyed that why people can't think for themselves anymore not can they do their own independent research they need social media to do all the thinking for them

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/07/2025 19:38

@ForWittyTealOP I definitely do not at all equate the actions of the current Israeli government with Jewish people which is why I abhor any anti-semitism and that it seems to have increased recently just because of the actions of the Israeli govt in Gaza (and the West Bank).

Didntask · 26/07/2025 19:38

Because the Jews cant be blamed for it. HTH.

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/07/2025 19:47

It is unfortunate that the OP worded her sentiments about the humanitarian crisis in Sudan into a comparison with Gaza situation with claims of racism and underhand anti-semetic views.

This approach has backfied somewhat as we're not talking about Sudan anymore are we? But anyone that watched the news 2 years ago would be familiar with Darfur.

You said "the oppressed are becoming the oppressors"; what does that mean if not that Jews, having always been oppressed are now oppressing others? Have a look at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's definition of anti-Semitism and you will find this as one of the defining features,

Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.

Anybody who has been paying attention could see that the far right Netanyahu was bad news for Israelis, for Palestinians, for Israeli democracy and for Jews way before the current war. I say bad news for Jews partly because his actions have emboldened people to come out and say exactly the kinds of things you just have while claiming to oppose anti semitism.

TheHateIsNotGood · 26/07/2025 20:28

@ForWittyTealOP I understand your angst but you're barking up the wrong tree with me. I can not re-iterate anymore than I already have that I don't blame Jewish people, many of whom don't live in Israel, for the actions of Netanyahu's govt.

And many Jewish people both within and outside of Israel have expressed their disdain for him and his govt. Nonetheless, I shouldn't be censored from drawing comparisons between the Jewish Ghettoes created by the Nazi regime and what is happening in Gaza because sometimes the truth fucking hurts.

Jujujudo · 26/07/2025 20:38

Frenchbluesea · 26/07/2025 14:09

This post is just a way of claiming that people outraged over Gaza are anti semitic.
The killing of children is ALWAYS indefensible and unjustifiable

Even Jewish and Israeli ones??

Well if you want to continue to be anti semitic and to dismiss opposition to racism as "angst", I can't stop you. And I can't say for a minute I'm surprised. There's so many like you, merrily gaslighting away.
You're still indulging in racism though, however fondly you see yourself as being on the "right side". I can't have spelt it out more clearly than signposting you to the IHRA's definition of anti semitism. At this point it looks like wilful ignorance, if I'm being kind about it.

PersephonePomegranate · 26/07/2025 20:42

People feel outrage, support or sadness for whoever the media tells them to. This includes what they decide to cover and what they omit.
