How much to lose your legs??

I'll set the YABU/ YANBU rate to £10m. YABU still keeping them, they're mine. YANBU already picking out wheelchairs.

Assuming there is truth to this - WTF??? Even rolling myself up to £50m I'm in visceral horror. The money is only useful in my opinion if you can cycle, run, climb steps to change a lightbulb, play football with your kids, and feel your legs there anytime you want.

So do you have a limit?

Almost as nutty as the doctors at NHS Fife.

But I don't think any amount of lolly would persuade me to part with legs. Short as they are, they are mine, and I'm quite fond of them. Smile

It is well known that some people have a body dysmorphia that means they want to be rid of healthy limbs.

Obviously this doesn’t relate to those who want to be rid of healthy genitalia.

No his legs were removed in hospital by a vascular team.

Can you link to that? I’d be gobsmacked if a vascular surgeon would remove someone’s legs unless they absolutely had to.

It’s all over the press. He had sepsis, they tried oxygen therapy which didn’t work so they were removed with his consent. They aren’t saying much about where the fraud kicks in but seems to be the nature of acquiring the sepsis.

Ohnobackagain · 24/07/2025 00:37

@Sweetbeansandmochi in the article it says it is nothing to do with how he acted with patients - I think this is all about him/the insurance. Let’s hope that’s correct. Completely weird though …

I don’t consider myself overly religious but I feel wrong about the idea of swapping anything god gave me for money.

XWKD · 24/07/2025 00:58

He he has a amputation fetish, doesn't this cast doubt on the necessity of all the operations he performed? 😳

miniaturepixieonacid · 24/07/2025 01:23

I think it depends on your life set up.

For me, no amount of money would be worth losing my legs. I live on my own, very rurally and both my job and the hobby I spend 3-4 evenings a week on require full mobility.

But if I lived in a town/city, with a family that I enjoyed spending time with, worked full time from home and had sit down hobbies then yes, I can imagine parting with my legs for a few million pounds.

SunStarSea · 24/07/2025 01:28

I wouldn’t swap my legs for any amount of money.
I am concerned as this individual has received press coverage as being an inspirational dr, that there is press coverage all over showing his young family. It now seems really unfortunate given the links to the crimes he could be associated with. I hope some previous press articles are removed.

GrooveArmada · 24/07/2025 01:35

I still can't wrap my head around this story, I read it before I saw your thread and I've been thinking about it all day. It's one of the craziest stories I've come across.

GrooveArmada · 24/07/2025 01:36

XWKD · 24/07/2025 00:58

This was my thought too.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/07/2025 01:36

Did he perform unnecessary amputations?

ScruffMuffin · 24/07/2025 01:41

My legs are short and stumpy (excessively muscular due to a medical condition), but they're useful, so I'll keep them, thanks.

I can't get my head around the news story though. It's one of the weirdest and most gruesome things I've ever heard of. The articles I've read about it seem to raise more questions than they give answers.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/07/2025 01:36

This is a horrifying thought. I don't think we've heard the end of this story, by a long stretch.

GrooveArmada · 24/07/2025 01:47

Always get a second Dr opinion, especially before major operations, folks. I dread to think what's going to come out, I think it's the usual press drip feed in preparation.

Trying to work out how he got sepsis from a stomach bug he and his daughter got whilst camping. She recovered quickly thank goodness, but he then developed pneumonia which affected his feet? Or is there a suggestion that he injected himself with toxins? Hence the fraud charges?

Just bizarre. No amount of money because as a 10 year old I happened to catch on the news, after watching the Magic Roundabout, that a young woman who was shopping for her wedding dress in Northern Ireland, lost both her legs following a bomb. I was inconsolable. Lived in Northern Ireland at that time. The news was swiftly turned off after children's programmes after that. I cannot understand why you would have a fetish about that.

JustMyView13 · 24/07/2025 02:14

I think @MNHQ need to change the title of this one. It’s very ableist to talk about trading money and disability. Many of the comments do focus on the article itself, rather than the title. But it’s quite offensive to make comments about how much money would make disablement bearable for you.
I’m also not convinced people intend to cause this offence, so hopefully a moment of reflection.

I knew it was going to have something to do with the Eunuch maker website and Marius Gustavson. It was a website that streamed people having genitals and limbs removed.
People paid to watch the videos and live stream.
Only google it if you have the stomach for it.

The BBC article about Hopper says he paid for videos from that website. So there's the possibility that he was fascinated by the idea of having his own limbs amputated and went ahead and had this done and then tried to get the insurance money too.

To answer the OP's question: no amount of money would persuade me to have my legs amputated.

It is the body dysmorphia crowd and the Eunuch/null subset of the trans world. It is a pretty sick world and this creepy fraud of a doctor was connected to it. They say that men will never chop off bits of themselves for sexual gratification - well the evidence is that they are lying.

XWKD · 24/07/2025 00:58

Given that one of the charges against him is for encouraging the Eunuch Maker to carry out amputations, yes.

kittensinthekitchen · 24/07/2025 03:22

This is so grusomely interesting. I hope we hear more about this as it progresses.

TheOriginalEmu · 24/07/2025 03:28

I lost a leg to cancer last year. At the hip so a prosthesis is much more difficult to fit/use.
I’d like mine back given the choice, but I know of people like him from my research, they have a mental health condition called BIID. He Can’t help it anymore than any other mental health issue.

It has nothing to do with being trans. People with BIID are not trans.
