To Be Annoyed at Sainsbury’s

Tried to place an online order from Sainsbury’s for Friday and tried to add 1lt of gin to the order. I tried to place the order for delivery between 10am and 11am as I live in Scotland. A message came up saying I would need to change my delivery slot as they cannot deliver alcohol in Scotland before 10am but as far as I was aware 10am-11am was not before 10am. I have now booked it for 11am-12pm. I have work on Friday which means leaving the house at 12.20pm so now I can only hope they deliver on time as half the time they are late. I get paid on Friday hence getting the shopping delivered then.

Was the gin essential?

Do you only buy stuff in life that’s essential. If so, you definitely shouldn’t be on your phone on MN. It’s not essential.

It’s not that important that you have to comment on this thread despite your opposition to OP. Year you still commented and came back again.

Do you only engage in activity in life that you consider to be earth shatteringly important?

I was probably bored when I originally posted and just mooching through Mumsnet.
Isn't that what most Mumsnetters do 😂
Anyway... I apologised to the OP for my first rather bitchy comment.
Hope she enjoys her gin.

No of course not 🙄 but I wouldn't be getting het up over one item of shopping that's going to cause an inconvenience to receive it. Just remove it from the shop. Problem solved.

No, I think it’s when the sale is processed through the till, when the delivery is picked and leaves the supermarket or warehouse.

It's not processed through the till. And if it was when the picking was complete, then the system wouldn't have a pop up saying that delivery needs to be between 10am and 10pm.

D’uh, why didn’t the OP think of that?

I mean why go shopping and actually, you know, buy anything.

If my entire weekly shop was dependent on one item, I would remove that item so I can eat. It’s not exactly rocket science.

Or you could change the time to be able to get all your shopping, which OP did.

That’s fine, I’m responding to the other poster’s sarky comment.

Is the gin really that important.
If you can't manage without it then you've got a problem.

Wow! So without any context whatsoever, you're jumping straight to the conclusion that OP is an alcoholic because she ordered Gin with her weekly shop 🤣

If you read the entire thread you will see I apologised for that comment.
It was rude and childish - which is why I apologised.

SilenceOfTheTimTams · 25/07/2025 16:02

I think the criticism and mockery of those who’ve cast doubt on the OP’s sordid, alcoholic lifestyle and who have supported Scotland’s crusade against the grape and the grain is harsh.

This is morning delivery of the Devil’s buttermilk we’re talking about. Nothing could be more awful.

Scotland is right to restrict the wickedness of hard liquor to certain hours. I’m hoping that that fine country BANS all such ABOMINATION at ALL TIMES (except wine gums and Shandy Bass - I’m a bit partial to a tinned shandy).

And I wish for a similar policy in England and Wales. Prohibition is overdue.

Only when the scourge of a Saturday night gin and tonic is STAMPED OUT will we able to look ourselves in the eye. Will nobody think of the children!

Needmorelego · 25/07/2025 16:10

@SilenceOfTheTimTams personally I'm waiting for Scotland to put the girders back in Irn Bru.

iamnotalemon · 25/07/2025 16:33

It does seem like a lot of hassle for gin tbh!

OonaStubbs · 25/07/2025 17:20

OP should just make her own gin in the bath.
