To ask if you believe you’ve lived a luckier life than most?

Whether it’s down to circumstances, timing, support, or sheer chance - do you ever stop and think, “I’ve had it easier than others?” Or do you believe we mostly make our own luck?

I think the baby boomers (of which I'm very tail end) are the luckiest people in human history.

You'd never know it from listening to them though.

Yes, time for stuff to go wrong still I’m sure but I work in mental health and have worked in Children Social Care, and every day I count myself lucky to not have suffered or had to survive through some of the horrific abuses that we as humans can inflict on each other.

I was very unlucky in that I had a horrible abusive father (and to some extent mother), lived in poverty and was terrorised at home. I was badly bullied at school. I developed an auto immune disease age 21, got kicked out of uni as a result and which ‘ruined’ my life for several years as I was unemployable - except for shitty low paid jobs.

I am lucky in that I am reasonably intelligent. I got a second shot at a career later in life, married a lovely man and have 2 wonderful daughters. So my luck has certainly changed. I am doing an MSc in a subject I love and also volunteer as a magistrate. I will never own a home or be rich but I live in a lovely area. So I guess I am lucky in that. I am very grateful for all I have.
