Suspended from Facebook

Deedee248 · 20/07/2025 21:49

I received a message from Facebook nine days ago telling me that I have been suspended from Facebook. I have no idea why I was suspended - allegedly I have broken one of the rules, although it gave no details. As someone who rarely posts on Facebook, other than to leave birthday greetings for friends, I have absolutely NO idea why I have been suspended. I immediately appealed the decision and received a message saying that it usually takes just over a day to review my information. However nine days later, I am still none the wiser as to what happened, and why I was suspended, and don't know how to get back on there. I do not put anything inflammatory or even political on Facebook, so I really do not know why I was suspended. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if so, how did you get back on? From googling this, it appears that Meta are very difficult to make contact with, and don't tend to respond to individuals who try to make contact with them. I would be very grateful for any help from anyone who knows how to contact them and get a response. Thanks.

Could your account have been hacked?

SecretNameforMN · 20/07/2025 21:54

If your account isn't reinstated just create a new one. I did.

Shmithecat2 · 20/07/2025 21:54

I once got suspended for writing 'bloody men, absolutely useless'. Apparently, that's hate speech 🫠

I'm not sure. However I can't access it in order to change my password, which is very frustrating!

Yes I will probably do that. However all the things I have saved and the groups I have joined will be lost, and I will have to start again with all of them!

I haven't written anything even vaguely dodgy. I can't remember the last time I posted.

I had it once and it did come back without any explanation. Never knew why.
Every now and then I get a warning for a reported post which links to nothing

Spies · 20/07/2025 22:04

If it's rarely used then I second the suggestion it has been hacked.

Neodymium · 20/07/2025 22:07

maybe the email saying it was suspended was the hack. Did you need to ‘log in’ to check the suspension?

No. I just got a message saying I had been suspended, and I could appeal the suspension, which I did straightaway. It claimed to take just over a day for it to be sorted, but nothing has happened nine days later!

They're basically impossible to contact or reason with. All their decisions are taken by AIs. There are an awful lot of people who have lost their accounts or been warned for "violations" they haven't done and there's absolutely no comeback or way to get through to an actual human at Meta. It's been this way for years but as AI has made advances, Facebook just seems to get worse and worse. I think it's on purpose to eliminate dealing with their pesky customers/free content creators/cash cows to be advertised to. The automatic text checker is preposterous. I wrote a post a few weeks ago in a group and mentioned the fact that my mum passed away, and it got flagged by FB AI for suicide ideation and wouldn't let me post it. 🙄
Every time a journalist talks about "Facebook employees" in the news it makes me laugh because they don't seem to actually have any. I think it's just Zuckerberg and his little AI bots.
It has such good potential as a business/tech product, I just wish it was run better, he seems to be running it into the ground and it's no wonder so few people use it regularly these days.

I was suspended for inciting violence. A friend posted a picture of a giant spider in her house, and I commented that her only recourse was to burn the house down.

But how did you appeal the suspension?. If you clicked through a link in that message, or submitted a form via that it then it could well be that you actually did it via a scammer. You put your details into a fake message which took you to a game Facebook "appeal your suspension here" page. And they immediately changed your password which is why you now can't log in. That message could have been the scam.

Yes that is what I am thinking.

i got locked out of Facebook awhile back, I actually found chat gpt really useful for this. I put in the messages I had got and it told me what to do and next steps. It was very reassuring actually.

I put similar, but just had the post deleted.

Hi OP
I get probably 2 a day of these on my business account. If you click on the original suspension email you’ll probably be able to see that it was a fake Facebook email address. Once you click through to reinstate your account they have all of you sign in details and will have changed your password. They look really realistic but are a scam. You could try appealing directly to Facebook but they are pretty useless. My friend is still trying to get her Facebook and instagram account with over 10k followers back 4 months later (someone is now using it to advertise for a porn site).

sorry this happened to you!

nhsparentalleave · 21/07/2025 07:38

It’s rubbish. I had an acquaintance publish personal details (addresses etc) about my family on a group site with a huge number of members. According to Facebook that was okay, and I couldn’t get it removed.
bug much more trivial things like flippant remarks earn you a ban.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 21/07/2025 07:41

They’re cracking down on accounts with little/no personal information, no profile pictures and little to no activity - if yours falls into that category that might be why they’ve suspended you.

LavenderBlue19 · 21/07/2025 07:45

@Darragon I completely agree, Zuckerberg does seem to be trying to run it into the ground. I don't understand why though - surely he business makes money, with all the ads. If it gets worse and worse no-one will use it, and then it's just AI bots advertising to themselves.

I rarely log in nowadays, only really use it for local groups and a couple of special interest groups I've been in for years. Most people seem to say the same. I get absolute rubbish in my newsfeed, AI generated stuff about things I'm not interested in (how many 43 year old women are into German warplanes?)

I think it's going the way of MySpace, sadly.

Wheelz46 · 21/07/2025 07:46

Could you have accidently liked an inappropriate post, quite easy to do if you are just scrolling.

Not sure if that would be a reason the hierarchy would suspend you but if you cannot think of any other reason, I suppose it's not outside the realms of possibility.

thebigyearahead · 21/07/2025 07:49

I had this last year. I was banned for posting something on Instagram. I don’t have Instagram. Somehow my Facebook account had been hacked (although I had two factor authentication on it), the hacker had created a linked Instagram account and posted something that meant I was banned form both Facebook and Instagram. I tried to recover the account to no avail. I eventually gave up. Meta are bloody useless

I’ve now been living Facebook free for 17 months, with no intention of ever going back. I just use WhatsApp now

Unfortunately there was no email. It was as I clicked on Facebook to open it that this message came up. So no opportunity to avoid it or see who it was from. ☹️

I have profile pictures and I post stuff occasionally. Mainly I belong to loads of interest groups on there, and if I open another account I will have to join them all over again!

I think that’s unlikely. I don’t really get inappropriate posts coming up on my feed! 😁
