All I've seen on social media this weekend are posts/articles about how long the school holidays are.
Whether or not people think teachers deserve, or need, 13 weeks holiday a year, I will just say - it is a benefit of the job!
My friend works for a travel company. She is going on holiday next year (long haul) with her partner (so not a business trip). They are having to pay for their flights, but all their accommodation and excursions are free. This is a benefit of her job - a benefit that most of us don't get (because we don't do the same job as her). Their 'freebies' on this holiday is amounting to £3-4k. I don't begrudge my friend this - she works hard in her job and deserves it.
My DH is able to WFH - again, this is a benefit of his job. A benefit that I also don't get in mine. I do know that he also works bloody hard in his role, even though he does work from home.
My own job has the benefit of very long holidays. It is a benefit of my job. Others don't get the same benefits as I because they don't do the same job!
As for today. I am spending the first day of my long break in bed with a massive headache, and very achy limbs (thankfully, paracetamol is helping) due to 'leisure sickness'.
My job is extremely tiring and stressful during term time. But, I'm also not one of those who thinks I have the most important, and tiring, job in the role. All jobs bring their own stresses. Ad above, every job is different, but the teacher-bashing, and the "the holidays are too long and they are all lazy" shouters are getting boring now. You can increase my pay massively, but I wouldn't care about that - take away the main benefit of my job, and I'm out that door (I imagine many others would be too).
