I am not sure I agree that Teachers have absolutely exhausting jobs - much more so than most jobs - as said by man on r4 this morning

At this point, I just don't think you have the capacity to comprehend what people.are saying to you, whether you agree with it or not.

i blame my education

who says i am clueless about teaching? i have no reason to be clued up tbh

Yet you've started a thread about the profession...how bizarre!

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 11:04

i wont bother to repeat myself,

@StillAGoth

Please don’t take my comments as me trying to justify that POV. I’ve always seen it as a vocation as someone needs to have a passion to teach and doesn’t pursue it for the money. But totally agree it should still be properly rewarded.

I have a huge admiration and respect for teachers and I am really saddened by the increase in demands I can see just from having gone to school myself, now nearly 20 years ago and my children who now attend.

I agree - if we view it as a vocation without adequate reward that will have the net result of forcing people out the profession which doesn’t benefit anyone.

Tbh I am shocked at saddened by the state of schools and the lack of respect for a teachers roles in our children’s lives. Posts like these don’t help.

I did understand that.

I've realised I've responded to two of your comments now. My responses to you were in the spirit of conversation rather than conflict - I apologise if it didn't come across that way.

And I agree with you.

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 10:55

it wasnt about teaching, it was about occupations that are exhausting

If you wanted to discuss occupations that are exhausting, you have completely approached this the wrong way.

I think if your title had been, something along jobs that are exhausting you might have received a different response.

instead you wrote a goady title, unsure if this was deliberate but it was bound to attract responses from teachers, who are probably still recovering from end of term burnout and come across this thread.

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 11:05

thank you @YorkshireGoldie
it wasnt intentionally goady
but i am unscathed
believe it or not i have seen worse!
shame

but other folks here, are clueless about hard labour manual workers
swings and roundabouts

But other folks here haven't started a goady thread about manual workers and you chose to start the millionth one about teaching.

I'm 34 years in and sick to death of people weighing in on teachers and teaching with negativity. It's a great job if you have a vocation, but my god it's got tougher and tougher over the last three decades. No wonder thousands are leaving the profession.

And nobody with an ounce of sense would ever deny the exhaustion that comes with many, many, jobs...but your intention on starting this thread is obvious, no matter how much you deny it.

BrendaBleddynsBeachBall · 21/07/2025 11:06

@RevolutionHere I can tell that you don’t have a lot of work experience, or any experience of teaching, because you sound a bit dim.

Teachers are much maligned, so too nurses and doctors, by many people who wouldn’t be able to do those jobs. I’ve been both private and public sector, back room admin, customer focused, managerial; I’ve scrubbed toilets and waited tables. I know which ones I’d prefer to do.

OP your faux naivety is exhausting. You’ve started a goady thread slagging off teachers and then in a wide-eyed, “Not me!” sort of way, denied actually doing that. Perhaps getting a job would give you less time online and more time doing something productive?

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 21/07/2025 11:06

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 10:39

no, only by teachers who are oversensitive by the sound of things
far too ready to overreact

How horrible.
You start thread encouraging a pile on in relation to the teaching profession then accuse teachers of being over sensitive and overreacting? What a joke.

HideousKinky · 21/07/2025 11:06

My DH (retired now) used to work in finance and one of his colleagues decided to become a teacher instead because he thought it would be a lot less stressful.

Do you know how long he lasted OP?

Half a term!

You’ve done a lot of heavy digging on this thread OP, you must be exhausted. Not as knackered as a welder though, obvs.

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 11:07

why thanks @BrendaBleddynsBeachBall
it wasnt goady intentionally
it was regarding exhausting jobs but has been very one sided.
i might be dim or least i have no university education there you go, bet you are proud you noticed

but you have no idea about welders, their pay and conditions, their hours of work, the physical affects on their bodies

So what type of welder was your DH?
Manufacturing
Automotive
Construction
Oil and gas
Aerospace
Or one of the offshoots such as Marine?

Was he fully certified?

Most of them are well paid, with the exception of Automotive and that is why most automotive welders go self employed.
Most will work fixed hours why because health and safety regulations require it.
It is a tightly controlled area and if you are good at it you can name your price and get paid for travelling to and from sites.

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 11:02

nope i said this
I am not sure I agree that Teachers have absolutely exhausting jobs - much more so than most jobs -

it is the much more so than most jobs that i am critical of

What? That is exactly the same words I used except I missed out ‘absolutely’

I think your DH is probably exhausted from living with you 😂

StillAGoth · 21/07/2025 11:11

it was regarding exhausting jobs but has been very one sided.

Any idea why that might have been?

Any idea at all?

Even a glimmer of an idea?

RevolutionHere · 21/07/2025 11:12

hey @StillAGoth
i have been called dim and probably unemployed -
there is nothing else for me to say here,

you were bound to get teachers defending themselves

All I've seen on social media this weekend are posts/articles about how long the school holidays are.

Whether or not people think teachers deserve, or need, 13 weeks holiday a year, I will just say - it is a benefit of the job!

My friend works for a travel company. She is going on holiday next year (long haul) with her partner (so not a business trip). They are having to pay for their flights, but all their accommodation and excursions are free. This is a benefit of her job - a benefit that most of us don't get (because we don't do the same job as her). Their 'freebies' on this holiday is amounting to £3-4k. I don't begrudge my friend this - she works hard in her job and deserves it.

My DH is able to WFH - again, this is a benefit of his job. A benefit that I also don't get in mine. I do know that he also works bloody hard in his role, even though he does work from home.

My own job has the benefit of very long holidays. It is a benefit of my job. Others don't get the same benefits as I because they don't do the same job!

As for today. I am spending the first day of my long break in bed with a massive headache, and very achy limbs (thankfully, paracetamol is helping) due to 'leisure sickness'.
My job is extremely tiring and stressful during term time. But, I'm also not one of those who thinks I have the most important, and tiring, job in the role. All jobs bring their own stresses. Ad above, every job is different, but the teacher-bashing, and the "the holidays are too long and they are all lazy" shouters are getting boring now. You can increase my pay massively, but I wouldn't care about that - take away the main benefit of my job, and I'm out that door (I imagine many others would be too).
