To be so sick of men on podcasts

Teachingquestion · 17/07/2025 07:22

Just watching diary of a ceo and Eric weinstein is on. Its impossible to watch. Two men so convinced of their own intelligence they are just sort of talking in platitudes and smiling at each other as if they are so intelligent.
Uggghhhh

I like the truly nerdy podcasts that tell you something of value. The trouble with any kind of blogging is that as frequency increases, quality so often goes down.

It’s the “chatty” “we’re just like you” podcasts between women that I can’t stand

Do you mean the Lily Allen one?

Op: I hate men on podcasts
MN: Let me tell you all about women we hate on podcasts. 🤦🏻‍♀️

People did that just to show that you can't generalise.

Exactly!!

Also...

OP: I'm sick of men on podcasts

MN: Have you started your petition to ban men from all public places or anywhere they can be seen or heard yet only to roll them out for paycheck and making babies yet

🤣🤣

Yes - I'll DM you the details

I don't like most podcasts unless they are put together as professionally as a normal TV or radio programme. If I wanted to listen to two people rabbiting on I'd go to the pub and talk to my friends who are more interesting.

DuskyPink1984 · 17/07/2025 09:27

Sounds dull as dishwater. Try the Infinite Monkey Cage. Totally different subject matter (science made entertaining, rather than CEO's having a cock-off). Or anything with Hannah Fry. Or You're Dead To Me.

I used to like The Infinite Monkey Cage but started to find Robin Ince smug and irritating. Also since I found out he is a full on TRA I can't take him seriously on what is supposed to be a science and fact based show.

Caravaggiouch · 17/07/2025 09:43

Out of my favourite podcasts there are ones hosted by 2 men, 2 women, or men and women together. Diary of a CEO is a load of shite though.

stayathomer · 17/07/2025 09:44

Definitely see this all the time and as an author I see why people talk so confidently- it’s the whole fake it until you believe it to convince others to buy into what you’re touting. It’s women too, definitely not just a man thing

You can always, you know, not listen..

🙄

AlwaysBeingMe · 17/07/2025 09:50

Horses for courses 😁
Lots of wannabe radio presenters or folk who believe they are worthy of a Ted Talk spot podcasting.

After just a few mins it should be obvious whether to download to listen later or switch to something else

Offcom · 17/07/2025 09:50

Self-help podcasts nearly always sound like word salad to me, don’t understand what people get from them at all.

I really look forward to new episodes of RedHanded - I came for the true crime, but love the random history lessons too.

Strawberrri · 17/07/2025 09:51

Diary of a CEO interview with Geoffrey ?Hinton - a designer of A.I. - v good have a stiff drink beside you.
I don’t like watching podcasts - their behaviour is distracting from their story.
To churn out a podcast weekly is not going to produce great quality. I just want the info - not the hilarious witticism one of them laughs uproariously at.
Rory and Alistair -I do listen to but their glib take on transgender issues was typical overprivileged man stuff.
i like A Good Read from Radio 4, gardeners question time and thinking allowed which is a random mix of topics are two more gentle ones.

What's a TRA? All I can find when I search is Teaching Regulation Agency and I don't think you mean that!

InMyOpenOnion · 17/07/2025 10:09

I find many podcasts these days are self-indulgent drivel. I guess it's because there is no set time limit like in a live broadcast therefore less need to self-moderate the spouting crap. Plus some of them just churn out episode after episode - less is more I find. And don't get me started on those true crime ones that take ten episodes to cover about half an hour of actual material.

I find in general it is indeed men that seem to like the sound of their own voice more than women, but overall there is in general a tendency for both men and women to turn out increasingly low - grade stuff.

TRA = trans rights activist. He has a 'trans' child (no such thing IMO) and so I assume he believes in being born in the wrong body, humans can change sex, reductive stereotypes, lying to children etc etc

I don't want this to turn into a trans debate and I am not hating trans people and all that, before there is a massive pile on! I just don't have any time or respect for people who believe and promote this twaddle, particularly scientists.

Lottapianos · 17/07/2025 10:35

'He has a 'trans' child (no such thing IMO)'

Ah, didn't know this. I knew he was a TRA but not that he had a personal stake. I don't listen to the IMC podcast but he was on House of Games last season and he was insufferably smug then

Crikeyalmighty · 17/07/2025 10:43

@Lottapianos I love Rory and Alistair -also the newsagents- but then I like political podcasts

I enjoy political podcasts too, I just can't stand R&A. They have repeatedly been asked by female listeners to engage properly with gender critical arguments and they just refuse. I find them very arrogant

I do listen to the News Agents sometimes, I love Emily Maitlis. I also really enjoy Where History meets Politics with Iain Dale and Dr Tessa Dunlop

Thank you! Yes, I see. Thank you. 🙂

I think it's the long free flowing approach I struggle with. I suffer with chronic pain and listened to a three hour podcast where a Stanford University professor was interviewed. It was interesting and I think I learnt a few things but 3 hours is long. I have shared it with people who either have chronic pain or know people who have but I have to warn them that it is 3 hours long. I wonder if editing skills are being lost?

Thanks to those for some recommendations.

Is that ALL men then OP?

I thought I'd have no interest in The Rest is Entertainment but listened once as I like both Marina and Richard.

It's brilliant and the insights into the industry are fascinating.

They are really interesting. Slight annoyance at Richard glossing over issues which deal with women being assaulted at work, he comes across as a little misogynistic at times, but overall I do enjoy it. I love when Marina gets on her soapbox!

No, people did that to show “women do it too”. Which is typical of any issue where men are being criticised.
