To be so sick of men on podcasts

Just watching diary of a ceo and Eric weinstein is on. Its impossible to watch. Two men so convinced of their own intelligence they are just sort of talking in platitudes and smiling at each other as if they are so intelligent.
Uggghhhh

I quite like some of Dr Chatterjee’s ‘Feel better, live more’ but only when the guest is decent.

Fin vs History is beyond hilarious but not for people who are easily offended.

PhilippaGeorgiou · 17/07/2025 08:09

I guess it's just like TV. There are just so many awful and annoying programmes and people. I don't know why I don't just watch something else / do something else. Oh wait - I do!

Wetcappuccino · 17/07/2025 08:11

Decoding the Gurus podcast is great for discussing these “secular gurus” who are so prevalent on the podcast circuit e.g. Weinstein, Bartlett, J. Peterson and Shetty. Often male but with a few notable exceptions. Two very personable and knowledgeable academics host and it is funny - although some of the episodes are long. They did a recent episode on Matthew McConaghey’s new life coaching venture which made me cringe myself inside out!

I understand op. The difference between male and female podcasts is that women will listen and they’re just podcasts chatting about random things and are just pointless conversation to be honest. But the male podcasts have followings that take their word as gospel and they’re more to do with sharing their ideology on topics with the men and young boys are consuming as fact which becomes really dangerous.

Yes, the red pill nonsense is incredibly dangerous. You have these podcasters saying you can cure depression with going to the gym and that women are gold diggers and men have to look a certain way and earn a certain amount.

These men are spouting the very toxic masculinity nonsense that they in turn blame women for supposedly wanting. It is a disgusting, viscous circle and I was shocked to hear my lovely nephew repeating things he had heard.

When I explained why it didn't make sense and wasn't true he was embarrassed and said that all his friends watch these podcasts and say these things.

I know a few teachers who are struggling with a big rise in misogyny in their classrooms and the boys always seem to be repeating similar sorts of ideas.

Andrew Tate started a wave and the new gen are much more insidious and clever. They are less obvious so young men like my nephew start to listen and don't realise they have been swept away until it is too late.

Things like "women don't like weak men, no woman wants a man who cries, you need to workout and your depression will go away".

Sure exercise can be good for mental health, so there's a tiny nugget of truth. But it is wrapped up in blaming women for men having to be a certain way and giving bad advice to fix it, which perpetuates the problem and hence the anger towards women grows.

I have realised that I really don’t like podcasts that are in a chat/ conversation format. Feels like a waste of time listening to the small talk and chit chat and the meandering. I do like scripted podcasts where it’s more like a documentary where what is said has been planned and edited and polished. More quality information less waffle.

Murfmeister · 17/07/2025 08:18

Mel Robbins....drives me up the wall. I tried one and she didn't stop talking with her long rambling introduction. I thought it might be just that episode, but no.

Shut the fuck up for a minute and let your guest speak!!!! Feel better now 😁

ThatshallotBaby · 17/07/2025 08:21

Real Dictators podcast is absolutely brilliant, also Natalie Haines stands up for the classics.
Next one I’d like to listen to is A Short History of.
There are good ones out there.

The only podcast I actually enjoy is Louis Theroux interviewing. I really like the way he asks questions of people.

I find most podcasts, both male and female, to be no more insightful than listening to friends down the pub.

See I listened to the Louis Theroux Bella Ramsey one, thinking I like them both, she’s had an interesting journey… what’s not to love?

Well it was shite. The advert/promotion slot was so intrusive and weird, and they didn’t manage to get a decent conversation underway at all!

Malvaceae · 17/07/2025 08:24

Steven Bartlett’s annoying too. Obviously he has a lovely ‘nice young man’ persona and tackles topics that men usually don’t. But I think this means female listeners are accepting really lightweight insights coupled with very flaccid interviewing techniques. He seems to accept anything his guests say. There is no critical awareness or interrogation. And some of the guests are downright spouting rubbish. It’s like his podcast is a sixth form media studies project and everyone is listening because he’s a lovely boy who’s trying very hard.

myplace · 17/07/2025 08:25

This has turned into a good thread for finding good podcasts!

I must say, I start with what’s on R4. That tends to be informative and entertaining.

Imagine men doing podcasts? How disgraceful

Finally someone gets it!

Good Hang with Amy Poehler is my fav at the moment.

Lottapianos · 17/07/2025 08:26

After Dark sounds great!

I listened to one episode of Jay Shetty because he had Dr Orna Guralnik on from Couples Therapy. I didn't know anything about him so did a Google search afterwards, my gosh he sounds like a right crank! Won't be tuning in again

My DP listens to Rory and Alistair on The Rest Is Politics, out loud on his phone in the house 🙄 my lord they're tedious. Really think they're god's gift

Lottapianos · 17/07/2025 08:28

'Good Hang with Amy Poehler is my fav at the moment'

I enjoyed her episodes with Tina Fey and Kathryn Hahn, and the Michelle Obama one was great! Must give Michelle's podcast a go actually

Hairymunter · 17/07/2025 08:36

After Dark & Natalie Haynes are great. I also really like The Rest is Entertainment with Richard Osman & Marina Hyde, I've learned a lot about the inner workings of the industry. He's v funny as well 🙂

This absolutely sums it up
Then have opposite him thingy Weinstein who is saying really common sense things but gussied up as pseudo intellectual - and leaving long self satisfied pauses and then Bartlett acting like it was so clever he just couldn't comprehend it.

UGH

I watched that podcast the other day, and I don't think it is representative of Stephen's (CEO) usual guests and discussions.

Just read the majority of comments on this particular guest, EW. He is very convoluted, the archetypal conversational Riddler, who speaks a lot says little, and seems to enjoy eliciting confused responses from his interlocutors to prove his superior intelligence.

I've watched many of Stephen's interviews and, despite his business and financial success, he's never struck me as being convinced of his own intelligence or superior in any way. He's always very enquiring and seems genuinely interested in learning new information and considering different perspectives.

However, I do agree with you overall about men and how they come across in their podcasts.

😂 totally agree. I can’t bear any of these prolific podcasts, men or women. They’re simply an extension of these people’s self-obsessed ness. Another example of the egocentric society we live in. Me me me. It’s all about me. I’ll pretend I care / am interested in a teeny bit about you. But then I’ll bring it back to me. 🤢

I can’t stand Diary of a CEO. A prime example of on idiots idea of what an intelligent person is. I’m surprise you listen.

Quirkswork · 17/07/2025 08:52

I like Triggernometry. They do actually listen to their guests, have a good variety of types and aren't trying to ram their own views down people's necks. Plus I have a strange crush on Konstantin Kisin. Quite fit.

I cannot stand The Rest is Politics. Utter condescending claptrap. Rory Stewart in particular. Why people like them I do not know.

Apologies - Steven Bartlett, not Stephen.
