If you have an outdoor sofa, do you take all the padding / cushions off every night?

That really! I say we should because of foxes pooping on it, DH thinks it’s ridiculous.

We get fox poo in our garden almost every night.

It’s under a covered part of our garden, so no risk of rain.

YANUB - yes take the cushions and padding off
YABU - no leave them

Yabu

Didimum · 14/07/2025 19:09

Yes we take them off every night and store in the shed.

takealettermsjones · 14/07/2025 19:10

Yeah we do!

Pomer0l · 14/07/2025 19:12

Definitely not, only store them in loft over winter. Rain cover on if rains and that’s it. Still looking good 5 years later

Trovindia · 14/07/2025 19:12

No. They stay on till the weather is too bad to sit out, then they get put away. They are too big to keep moving about.

Aaron95 · 14/07/2025 19:13

Nope. They go out in the spring and into the loft in the Autumn.

Favouritefruits · 14/07/2025 19:13

No, if I know the weather will be nice for a few days I keep them out, sometimes I have to retrieve the cushions from various areas of the garden if the weather is windier that expected overnight.

Binfire · 14/07/2025 19:13

Nope! I can’t see a fox climbing on the sofa for a poo

Oldraver · 14/07/2025 19:17

I may leave them overnight if I know it's not going to rain, but usually store them .

Though invariably they will get left out and get soaked

Hapeaglowb · 14/07/2025 19:26

Yes every night but ours isn’t covered. Covers and cushions still look pristine after 3 years

Dearg · 14/07/2025 19:28

Yes we do. I have see too many mouldy cushions to risk it. Mine are over 10 years old now & look pristine. Hadn’t thought of foxes , was thinking more of damp.

jessycake · 14/07/2025 19:51

No but we bought a waterproof cover

justtootiredtoday · 14/07/2025 19:54

Yes, take them off every night and store in the shed so they don’t get rained on

MuggleMe · 14/07/2025 20:05

Nope, just put the rain cover over if it looks like rain.

Vicliz24 · 14/07/2025 20:10

We take ours off every night because local cats sleep on them . Dump them on the dining room chairs . Messy all summer but in the loft all winter.

Ha you’ve not met the South London foxes then. They go out of their way to poo on things. Examples: in a pair of crocs left out, on a peg on the grass, on top of a football. They absolutely would poo on any sofa cushions left out. Or drag them away. Can’t leave anything outside here!

Shiptoshore · 14/07/2025 20:31

The first night we left ours out we woke up to a pile of fox poo on one of the cushion. So now they come in every night

Octavia64 · 14/07/2025 20:32

Nope.

my cats sleep on them in the day and overnight.
i’ve already replaced one set

Ilovelowry · 14/07/2025 20:33

This is mad. I've never found poo on our outdoor cushions. They stay out from about May to October.

I also leave washing on the line until it dries.

Blackoutbeans · 14/07/2025 20:34

Yeah, unfortunately to my annoyance they go in the shed every night.

I am so fed up with it that most days I cba to even put them out 🙄

MyJoyousKoala · 14/07/2025 20:37

Ours go in the shed every night, no fox poo here but plenty of bird poo and I don’t fancy cleaning that off every morning!

OnABrokenFence · 14/07/2025 20:40

No. Our outdoor furniture is on the lanai by the pool. The pool and lanai are caged. We live in Florida so no foxes here but plenty of alligators, which is why the pool is caged.

Ha! Yes! I am in South London! Once my DS left his shoes outside and they took one, tore into it, and peed on it.

Yes, bird poo, rain

satssss · 14/07/2025 20:42

A real mix!! Okay, I think I will keep taking them in… even though DH rolled his eyes when I told him that just now. It’s annoying but I really don’t want to clean them or avoid sitting on them because they’re getting gross!
