Ive seen so many threads recently where the OP has a problem, and a poster goes:
"Here's what ChatGPT said:"
Followed by a copy and paste.

OMFG! Its so boring! We come on MN to get real opinions and ideas from real people.

Ditto with "cutesy", selfconciously "amusing" posts, like: "I asked ChatGPT to write a poem about this, here's what it came up with:"

Stop! Those "here's a funny limerick/poem" posts were hard to stomach back when they were written by the actual human. But clogging up a thread with 20 robot-generated lines of guff? Nah.

I actually think it’s a bit ludicrous using it to
debate any kind of ethical question. It is designed to tell you what you want to hear. It also will often insist it’s position on a message or conversation would be identical with/without context and yet it isn’t.

Ask it to analyse a conversation without context it may say Person A is being manipulative, add context and it will say no that context doesn’t change my analysis of A.

Give a friend same conversation and the context and have them provide both. Now person B is being manipulative and bullying. Ask it to ignore the context and assess just the message and it will say even without the context it’s clear my original position was correct.

Someone I work with has done this with both real and made up conversations a couple of times and come to the conclusion asking it for any kind of advice on ethical dilemmas or trying to use it for therapy would be useless at best and a bit dangerous at worst.

It’s a useful tool in some contexts. People should very much be aware of its limitations and it having something a bit like confirmation bias where rather than cherry picking to fit its original beliefs (which it obviously doesn’t have) it cherry picks to try and please the person talking to it. It often asks for your feedback and clearly it builds some idea of how you view the world and try’s to respond in line with that view
