The tea & coffee thing I find odd, but then I've never tried alcohol, so I suppose I should understand.

It’s sort of exactly like that. You could see a cocktail for instance and think it looks a gorgeous colour and smells really fruity and delicious. But there’s no part of you that’s bothered about wanting to know what it tastes like and you’d rather stick to your drink of choice. That’s how I feel about tea & coffee.

🤔I’d be willing to bet that nobody on MN has been bitten by a bear

Think they were trying to be funny maybe? But either way that's not something you do, that's something that happens to you!

😁

I’m not sure really. I absolutely love the smell of tea & coffee, and it was always in the house, but it just never appealed as a drink for some reason. If I have a hot drink, it would be hot chocolate. ETA, thinking about it, it was for adults, none of us children had it. And I never thought about drinking it as an adult because if it was cold enough for a hot drink, I wanted hot chocolate.

Re the fruit, For the strawberries and cherries, I did have easy access to them because we’d go and work on the farms in the school holidays from age 12, earning something ridiculous like 10p a punnet, but they just didn’t look very nice. I love strawberry flavour, but the actual fruit is full of pips and looks a little bit spikey/hairy and never smells as nice as the flavour, so I didn’t see the appeal. And I’m not that keen on cherry flavour so wasn’t bothered about those. And peaches & apricots, there wasn’t the money for experimenting with fruit. We were more of an apples, oranges and bananas household because they wouldn’t get wasted. I’ve tried tinned peaches as an adult and I love them, but I couldn’t tell you why I’ve never bought them fresh. Maybe the skin? It’s hairy. I feel the same about Kiwis. There’s loads of fruit I’ve never tasted actually. It’s just that those were the first ones off the top of my head.

Edited

Ah makes sense! I totally get you about the peaches thing. I love sliced ones in tins but not keen on the fur so i tend not to eat them whole.

@Meadows9 I think that you need to rectify this as soon as possible - there are some absolute beauties in the UK! Whenever you go abroad try and take a trip to visit a religious building in that country. You're in for a world of wonder if you seek it out! Honestly, even people who aren't religious tend to appreciate the beauty of sacred buildings.

I’d be interested to know whether some of you actually want to do these things? Aren’t you curious as what a fresh cherry or peach actually tastes like? Wouldn’t you like to learn to swim?

A friend of mine once told me he’d never tried mustard and now was never going to as it was an interesting fact he could continue to repeat about himself 🤣

Aren’t you curious as what a fresh cherry or peach actually tastes like? No, not really. I’m not fussed about cherry flavour so can’t imagine that a fresh cherry would wow me. And if I eat tinned peaches, I don’t have to deal with the skin. I tasted mango for the first time last year and I like it, so passion fruit is my next one to try.

Wouldn’t you like to learn to swim? Not at all. I love being in the water and bobbling along with a pool noodle, but I’m quite happy treading water with one hand clinging onto the side. I wouldn’t swim lengths even if I could swim, and I hate having water up my nose and in my eyes (traumatic experience during my one and only swimming lesson when I was 10!) And at this point in my life, I’d look ridiculous with goggles, a nose guard and arm bands on, so I’m quite happy staying by the edge. 😂

It's not people's opinion... It is by definition social media. (Emphasis mine)

"social media
noun [ U or plural ]
uk /ˌsəʊ.ʃəl ˈmiː.di.ə/ us /ˌsoʊ.ʃəl ˈmiː.di.ə/

websites and computer programs that allow people to communicate and share information, opinions, pictures, videos, etc. on the internet, especially social networking websites"

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/social-media

It does feel different to me, though. I view social media as about connecting with people you know in real life, which is quite different to an anonymous forum.

I appreciate the definition above is broad and encompasses both types, but there is a distinct difference imo.

DelphiniumBlue · 14/07/2025 16:07

The things I haven't done are sporty, like skiing and sailing and surfing, and I wish I'd tried when I was younger and fitter! I don't think I'll be doing them now, although I have tried water-sking and swim fairly regularly.
I think being able to play games like tennis socially must be fun but I was not good at sports and we didn't have the financial ability to pay for tuition, so I never really learned. The PE teachers at my school were not interested in motivating or supporting the less able, and consequently I shied away from any sporty events rather than taking part and risking getting laughed at. I regret that I didn't push myself more.

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/07/2025 16:08

Never tried a cigarette. Never want to either.

Ive never had a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

I wish I could say I'd never tasted tea or coffee as I abhor them both, particularly tea, but I've been railroaded into it a few times - 'oh, go on, I bet you've never tried it, you'll love it' etc. 🙄 Nope, nope, nope. It's difficult to convey how my taste buds process tea, but definitely not as something that's meant to be drunk, I'm convinced I'd be sick if I had to drink a whole mugful. Coffee I could keep down if I had to, but I really dislike it too.
