PIC IN COMMENTS. Ulcer or Tonsillitis ? Please help

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 13/07/2025 19:14

Hi, I’m I’m at breaking point. Please help.

I have what I assumed was tonsillitis, but I’ve had it before and the symptoms feel so much worse than I’ve had before. Eating plain food and drinking even just water is burning my whole throat.

I now have canker sores / ulcers around my lips. I am attaching a photo in the comments, I really need some help.
i am taking every pain killer that I can and nothing is helping.

I can’t even see a photo waiting for review?

WingSlutz · 13/07/2025 19:18

You need to see a doctor OP, you could need antibiotics. In the meantime can you get to a pharmacy? They can recommend numbing throat spray etc.
hope you feel better soon

x2boys · 13/07/2025 19:21

Maybe Quinsy?
If you feel that. bad go to A and E.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 13/07/2025 19:35

It’s saying my photo is too big to post. I’ll keep trying.

im on penicillin from the pharmacy, ibuprofen, codeine and sucking lozenges and nothing is working. I can’t explain the pain. The doctor told me it’s nothing to worry about ‘it looks viral’ but I literally haven’t eaten a meal all week, and only sipping on drinks.

i think I’ve managed to make the photo smaller by screenshotting off my album. Let me know if it’s worked (sorry I know it’s a bit grim)

Owch OP, that looks sore. Do you have a fever? Does your voice sound different to normal?

dontcomeatme · 13/07/2025 21:37

That's not normal OP, it looks like your tongue and everything is sore! I would get a second opinion x

IwasDueANameChange · 13/07/2025 21:39

OP is it one sided? Has the doctor seen you in person? They ought to check for peritonsillar absess if only one side.

Viral tonsilitis does not "look" any different to bacterial but then viral tonsillitis can be every bit as bad it just won't respond to antibiotics.

Can you gargle tcp?

lemoncake29 · 13/07/2025 21:39

That does look like a mouth ulcer and they can make you feel really unwell. I’ve had them in that location before and it’s hell. Has the pain also gone to your ear? When I had one at the back of my throat I saw a GP and he gave me a prescription which I assumed was antibiotics, didn’t really look properly. Went to collect it and the pharmacist gave me a tube of bonjela! Not sure there’s a lot you can do to treat it it other than keep the mouth as clean as possible (corsadyl or salt water rinses) and keep topped up on paracetamol.

Having said that there does look to be a smaller white patch on the bottom left of your tonsil so it could be a combination of both. Probably worth seeing your GP for that if nothing else.

My mouth ulcers usually clear up on their own within 10 days so hopefully you will start to feel better soon. Massive sympathies though, they are grim.

Hankunamatata · 13/07/2025 21:41

How long have you been on pencillin?

Mine is usually day 3 of penicillin before the pain subsides with tonsillitis. And its exactly as you described.

Gargling with aspirin helped but not sure thats advised now

Barnbrack · 13/07/2025 21:44

My guess is adenovirus, do you also feel really unwell with sore eyes and watery runny nose? I'd ask the GP to swab at this stage

MsTamborineMan · 13/07/2025 21:51

In front of your tonsil is a mouth ulcer. Also looks like you might have one at the back of your throat?

If they are all over your lips, and you aren't prone to them then it's mostly likely a virus. Lots of viruses can cause mouth ulcers

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/07/2025 06:30

@Covidwoes I haven’t had a fever but have been feeling really cold , but not measuring with a fever on the thermometer. My voice sounds the same but I am struggling with talking to the kids, the pain is unreal

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/07/2025 06:32

@IwasDueANameChange yes i saw them in person and he brushed me off, i went to pharmacy who gave me immediate antibiotics and she couldn’t believe that the Dr hadn’t been concerned by my throat. It’s on both sides but the pain is more on my right hand side. It’s making me quite depressed, I woke up this morning and it’s still there and it is really getting me down.

SisterMargaretta · 14/07/2025 06:36

I suffer badly with mouth ulcers. Try gargling with corsodyl mouthwash, or another brand that contains clorhexidine as this often helps.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/07/2025 07:05

Thank you @SisterMargaretta . How long do they normally last? I am getting married in less than three weeks and I’m scared I’m going be feeling this horrendous. I feel so so depressed about the pain

OP posts:
LakieLady · 14/07/2025 07:24

I used to get ulcers on my tonsils with tonsillitis. Not only were they painful, but they felt like I had something stuck in my throat, which was really unpleasant.

I can't remember what they looked like though, they took them out over 50 years ago.

3luckystars · 14/07/2025 07:26

I can’t look at the picture but could it be Quinsy? My son had that it’s an abscess in tonsils. It looked awful.

Thelonelydonkey · 14/07/2025 07:27

Have you tried difflam spray or mouthwash? Gargling soluble aspirin?

3luckystars · 14/07/2025 07:27

Go back to the doctor.

PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/07/2025 07:29

@LakieLady that’s exactly how it feels. When I swallow it feels like something is stuck . Along with the pain

OP posts:
PumpkinSpicedLatte · 14/07/2025 07:30

@Thelonelydonkey yeah I’m using difflam rinse, antibiotics, codeine/paracetamol . Nothing is working

I bet it’s quinsy. You need to go to hospital for iv if it is.

My son had it and it was bad but he recovered very quickly once he was on the right medication. You need to go back to a doctor for reassessment. today
