As a flip side to the expensive letdowns thread , has anyone bought anything low cost that’s been good ?
I got a mascara in b and m that’s great on my long blonde but thin eyelashes.
And an ineos hand wash that is actually really nice.

eczema cream instead of expensive moisturiser as my face is so dry and fragrance makes me cystic acne so much worse. I’ve wasted so much money on expensive moisturisers and serums. Now I use retinol and the cheap moisturiser and no breakouts

I bought a big bottle of e45 daily moisturiser lotion for £4. Really good body lotion, and even nice on face, mild non perfumed and non greasy.

Anyone else got things on their Amazon basket as a result of this

Yes!!! Suddenly there's all this stuff I want and need now!

Aldi Tatcha dupes. Bloody lovely on my skin. Should have bought more when they had them so there's a lesson there somewhere.

Over glasses sunglasses, £17, so good I bought another pair.

@Pinkandgreentrousers Could you post a link to the ones you bought? I've been looking to get a pair but get side tracked by all the choice!

My £20 airfryer from Asda
After much thinking about pros and cons, I just bought a cheap one and it's been great. Definitely the best money I have spent in recent years.

I came to say this, I bet we have the same one 🤣

godmum56 · 14/07/2025 22:26

a set of glass nailfiles and buffers from amazon. I get a natural look mirror shine on my nails without using any product and it seems to help to prevent splits and breakage too....it sort of seals them.

A wool duvet to replace our horrible, sweaty polyester one, not massively cheap at £40 but well worth it.

Ooooh where was this from? Amazing price.

A large Le Creuset roasting pot at a car boot sale for £25! 😀

I have been looking for a replacement hand wash for downstairs loo as Scottish Fine Soaps have discontinued Citrus Verbena which Ive used for about 5 years. L’occitane was looking likeliest candidate but I bought Aldi Citrus one to try as handy to me, its ok, but nowhere near as good, guess where Ill be going tomorrow 😃
thank you for sharing!

lidl also do a knock off posh shower gel in a black bottle. It looks like agh, can’t remember! But the shop is gorgeous, all wood and black bottles with some sort of testers, sink in the middle. This smells divine.

Hey sorry for the delay.

This is the butt puncher it seems to have got more expensive than a couple of months ago when I got mine but it's still under 20 quid.

My new water flosser is this one, as mentioned my old one failed with an internal leak after 4 years of service so I replaced with this one. I only got it last week and it's a different brand to my old one so can't vouch for it's longevity but it's just as good so far. They are quite powerful things, so it might be uncomfortable at first but it is really worth getting used to. Don't use cold water in them ever, it will make even relatively non sensitive teeth tingle, just use warm water. I sometimes add a drop of mouthwash as well.

The button thingy for camera was an eBay buy so were a bit cheaper on there, but these are the same thing.

I'm struggling to find the hair clip because I bought it in a shop!

I hope somebody finds these useful :)

I was most interested in the hairclip :( 🤣

Absodry moisture absorber has been great for our bathroom, it's like the Unibond one but you don't end up with the horrible blue gunk, you just pour out the water once it's full and swap out for a new bag. It also looks nicer lol, it comes in muted green, blue and pink, and also neutral dark grey. I got it from Costco but link to the blue version on B&Q for £24 (I think the grey is on sale for £17): https://www.diy.com/departments/absodry-duo-blue-compact-moisture-absorber/7350000859416_BQ.prd

Bar Keepers Friend, found out about it when looking for something to polish scuffs off our induction hob. Found out it's great for cleaning loads of other things that doesn't mind a slight abrasive like the kitchen sink, tea stains from mugs, limescale in the bathroom... I've found it does a better job than baking soda. You can get it from Lakeland for £2.99: https://www.lakeland.co.uk/8868/bar-keepers-friend-stain-remover-300g#product-details-accordion

The best cat hair removal tool I've used is this sponge thing, it is so much better than any of the other things I've tried (lint roller is actually the worst). But I've got very hairy long-haired cats so can only vouch for getting that soft layer of fur they leave behind, no idea how well this works with short hair. I have 3 sponges dotted around the house and use it on clothes, a fabric armchair, the velvet sofa, cotton bedsheets, the carpet on the stairs... Life changing. Only thing to note is once it's picked up a fair amount of hair, you do need to remove that or else you'll start transferring the fur back into surfaces you're trying to clean. Amazon's got it for about a fiver at the moment (yes I'm stocking up): https://amzn.eu/d/fhp6f5G

Bar Keepers Friend Cleaner & Stain Remover 300g | Lakeland

Bar Keepers Friend Cleaner & Stain Remover cleans a multitude of household surfaces. Effective on steel, china, brass, copper, tiles, grouting & chrome. Ideal for sinks.

A cats hair catcher £13 after many many rubbish ones, its brilliant gets hairs off velvet sofa as well as mats etc. Bought second one for upstairs.
Also just got 2 oil dispensers for about £11.

MagpieCastle · 15/07/2025 02:51

A big 500ml bottle of Bien Etre french eau de cologne when it was on offer for about £8 on Amazon. Unisex and fresh with a light scent that's great for splashing on after a shower during warm weather. Liked it so much that I bought a set of small spray bottles with tiny funnels for £6.99 to decant it into when travelling.

A set of 5 space saving hangers for £5.50 that helped organise an over-crowded wardrobe. Ditto an under shelf tray for foil/baking paper, etc and some stepped shelf organisers used to tidy the food cupboard. Also a tray thing for the fridge called a squircle that you put jars on and rotate to find what you want easily. They were from Vinted and cost about £12 together (without postage).

My long term favourite though is a fold away tote bag made from recycled sari material £6 from Oxfam that fits easily into a pocket and has been a lifesaver on many a shop, picnic and day trip.

I keep seeing everybody with little pastel coloured hand held fans, so they must be good - where are you all getting them from?!

I bought a black one for a fiver from Superdrug a few months ago and it’s brilliant. Several different speeds and usb rechargeable.

Mum roll on deodorant.
I'd been finding my usual one wasn't holding up to well in the heat - was in Savers a few days ago and spotted Mum on the shelf for £1. It's a brand i remember being around in my teens but thought it wasn't made any more.
Thought it would be worth a try and it's excellent, no irritation and no sweating!
