As a flip side to the expensive letdowns thread , has anyone bought anything low cost that’s been good ?
I got a mascara in b and m that’s great on my long blonde but thin eyelashes.
And an ineos hand wash that is actually really nice.

Hey sorry for the delay.

This is the butt puncher it seems to have got more expensive than a couple of months ago when I got mine but it's still under 20 quid.

My new water flosser is this one, as mentioned my old one failed with an internal leak after 4 years of service so I replaced with this one. I only got it last week and it's a different brand to my old one so can't vouch for it's longevity but it's just as good so far. They are quite powerful things, so it might be uncomfortable at first but it is really worth getting used to. Don't use cold water in them ever, it will make even relatively non sensitive teeth tingle, just use warm water. I sometimes add a drop of mouthwash as well.

The button thingy for camera was an eBay buy so were a bit cheaper on there, but these are the same thing.

I'm struggling to find the hair clip because I bought it in a shop!

I hope somebody finds these useful :)

That is a bargain. After seeing how well it worked for friends I bought one at full price and thought it was a lifesaver!

I don’t think they knew what it was because it was in a box filled with toys. They must have thought it was some weird vibrating rocket toy. I skiddadled out of there very quickly after parting with my £5, before they realised!!

A reusable water bottle, its leak proof, keeps fizzy drinks fizzy, ice doesn't melt in it for hours and hours and keeps tea hot for hours too, has saved me a fortune in takeaway drinks/ bottles of water, and no soggy bags!

Can you post a link please? 😊 I'd like a water bottle for me and DDs that actually keeps drinks cold that I can easily carry around.

Our cheap Primark Stanley dupes are good at keeping drinks cold for ages but I am not carrying those things round wherever I go!

These paper blackout blinds. I usually go to the loo about 4am and these have worked brilliantly (under curtains) at keeping my room dark enough to get back to sleep

https://www.dunelm.com/product/blackout-temporary-pleated-blind-1000203268

I wear sunglasses to the loo at night.

A toothpaste dispenser. Sounds gimmicky but it hugely reduces the amount of toothpaste that the kids manage to get all over the sink.

Where can this miracle be acquired?! 🤣

Three shirt dresses for work from Shein. Not ideal to buy from there I'll admit but they fit and wash well

JMSA · 14/07/2025 07:05

Gosh, this probably sounds very extravagant but I’ve recently lost a lot of weight and my body looks like a melted candle. Before a recent holiday to Spain, I treated myself to my first ever spray tan. Well, I loved it! It looked fantastic (for a while, anyway!) and was such a confidence booster. £28 well spent.
The other thing was the Korean scrub mitts that were recommended on here, which I bought to prep my body for the spray tan. It was only a fiver or something for two packs and they’re great! (they’re bright green and red, if anyone wants to find them on Amazon).

sandgrown · 14/07/2025 07:10

A £1.50 drain unblocker from Tesco . It’s a long wire with a handle that pulls all the hair and crap from your plugholes. It’s disgusting it very satisfying!

MrsSethGecko · 14/07/2025 07:15

Poundland eyebrow gel, which is unfortunate because there's no more bloody Poundland.

£8 Primark black umbrella to use as a sunshade, because I walk 4 miles to work and in this sun I couldn't hack it. Best idea I ever had.

DixiePeach · 14/07/2025 07:25

A UV umbrella £5 SHEIN and a rechargeable fan £3 TikTok shop. Just come back from holiday where it was 44 degrees both were life savers in that heat.

@Chemenger @bakebeans please can you link your wool duvets , thanks

I bought mine on Amazon, just search for wool duvet on there. It’s a Silentnight one. I got mine in a Prime Day offer so it might be a bit more expensive now.

A non digital radio, very basic. I have it on my nightstand and listen to the radio morning and evening.
It's so nice to have a proper radio to turn on and not have to deal with apps and use headphones or listen to it on my Iphone, like I have for the last 10-15 years.

Cracking thread, placemarking!

We bought a cheap (I think £10) folding BBQ thing from B&Q last year and it's been great - takes no room to store and can put together in seconds. It doesn't have a huge cooking area but we don't need it, and it's ideal for camping.

A set of two zero-gravity garden chairs - not cheap but certainly good value, WHY didn't I buy them before?!

Brabantia waterproof peg bag that stays on the line - best cost per use item I've ever owned, I think.

Boden doublecloth trousers, BNWOT on Vinted and brilliant for the recent heat.

Manual food chopper - great for herbs, onions, egg mayo, lots of stuff. I think it's Zyliss.

Fab - thanks! Our bathroom tends to look like some sort of crime scene, since the toothpaste has a red stripe. Plus the wastage is insane.

Will definitely give them a try. Though not sure they will help with the "toothpaste on the piano" problem, which I'm still not sure how it happens, but it does. 🤣

EnglishGirlApproximately · 13/07/2025 16:02

@Dogaredabombi buy these ones but there are loads of varieties on Amazon. Just wet and wring out the towel, pop it in it's pouch and when you take it out it cools on hitting the air - even if the pouch feels warm. They still chilled for a couple of hours even in hot weather.
https://amzn.eu/d/cbKv6e1

I took them when I was touring Morocco in 45 degree hear last year and was do grateful for them when the rest of my group were sweating!

These are amazing, we always use them for traveling. They were very useful in an theatre with no aircon recently too.

Yes which one and does it remove them in any area would you think!

Cryotag works for skin tag removal, it was used on a neck and under an arm, it wasnt painful, it says to wait up to 7 days for tag to drop off, but it was off within a couple of days. It freeze dries them.

Ohhh I love these threads!

I have a water flosser, a generic brand one costing about 20 pounds and I absolutely bloody love it. Bye bye bleeding gums and plaque below the gumline. Haven't needed to see a hygienist since I first got one 4 years ago, because my teeth are completely free from any build up. Worth every penny has saved me a fortune. The original one finally died last week and I ordered a new one immediately.

My "butt puncher", as it's called at our house. It's a deep tissue massager gun that I paid around 15 pounds for on Amazon and thought would be utter crap but oh.my.god. when I've got tight muscles in my back or glutes it's the absolute best thing ever. It's wicked and I can use it on myself so no more whining at my partner to rub my tight muscles. Leaves me feeling all floaty. A fraction of the cost of even one sports massage and can use it any time I feel I need it.

A new hair clip. It's way more sophisticated than my any old go to - the lazy ponytail, but still keeps my v long hair out of the way. I picked one in a soft matte brown and it matches my brown soft leather bag so I look oddly out together despite it only costing a couple of quid.

This might not be what youre looking for but I got a Bluetooth camera shutter button that pairs with my phone. I needed some pictures of myself for a profession thing but I tend to get really stiff and awkward when somebody points a camera at me. Managed to get some amazingly nice shots without hiring a photographer which saved money and they look better because I'm much more relaxed. Cost about £5. also great for group and family photos.

Ooh what brand is the water flosser?? With the hygienist visit costing 60 quid a go I'd be well up for that.
