As a flip side to the expensive letdowns thread , has anyone bought anything low cost that’s been good ?
I got a mascara in b and m that’s great on my long blonde but thin eyelashes.
And an ineos hand wash that is actually really nice.

Do you have a link for the fans?

The John Lewis Anyday rechargeable one for £12 is excellent

A USB C hand held/desk fan from John Lewis. £12. An absolute lifesaver on the commute.

Agree - it’s their own Anyday range

This sounds great. Which one is it?

I would love a link!

@Dogaredabombi buy these ones but there are loads of varieties on Amazon. Just wet and wring out the towel, pop it in it's pouch and when you take it out it cools on hitting the air - even if the pouch feels warm. They still chilled for a couple of hours even in hot weather.

I took them when I was touring Morocco in 45 degree hear last year and was do grateful for them when the rest of my group were sweating!

These are good - bought last year for Asia trip - pack of 4

A baby carrier I bought from Vinted for £7, need I say more.

wwyd2021medicine · 13/07/2025 23:14

@Denimrules
No the Gino one is 3l I think
Mine was discontinued but very like the Matt Scandi ones which are 4litres (both DD's have those from when they were reduced to £25 and v happy with them other than a minor problems which doesn't affect function)

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/07/2025 23:24

Silicone food covers in various sizes from Poundland. Brilliant.

manysausages · 13/07/2025 23:36

Elasticated bands that wrap round your bedding to say what size it is. All my bedding sets are now bundled together; sheet, quilt cover and pillow cases and I know what size it is without having to unfold anything. Have to use American sizing though, but still, they have improved my life.

I got those, as Poundland had reduced them! I really don’t find them very stretchy though. Like they’d be hard pressed to even cover a plate.

Allywill · 13/07/2025 23:42

that root touch up in can. it really covered up my grey roots when i was waiting for a hair appointment- i was amazed how well it worked,

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 13/07/2025 23:45

Ikea breakfast on toogoodtogo on Friday. Was 9 minutes left to reserve it was £1.50 and fed 2 of us.

ViciousCurrentBun · 13/07/2025 23:58

4 over door hanger hooks £2 in Tesco.

MakeOrBake · 14/07/2025 00:03

For the kitchen, I have a few - links included, but these may not the same ones I have.

Mini spatulas for jam, choc spread, last of the butter, etc. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0F8BV6VF5/ref=sspa_mw_detail_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWw&aref=qASOwPeLlYp13NParams

Also refillable spray oil dispensers

Also toaster tongs www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MH3RTTL/ref=sspa_mw_detail_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWw&aref=skiTLnRtNap13NParams

And as someone else mentioned, a sun buddy sun cream applicator in Boots. Genius invention. No more sticky hands. And far less waste. Great for smallies to apply their own

A wool duvet to replace our horrible, sweaty polyester one, not massively cheap at £40 but well worth it.

Where from please? X

We do rinse everything so it’s not always very obvious that the dishwasher is loading
DH tended to leave the door open to indicate it’s loading. Drives me mad. Also, I’ve no sense of smell and I worry an open dishwasher might be a bit whiffy

Not scrolling through to see if anyone else has told you this already, but rinsing your dishes actually confuses the sensors and makes your dishwasher less effective. You really shouldn’t do it.

moanyhole · 14/07/2025 00:37

Bluetooth headband, about a tenner on amazon. I play rain noise from YouTube at night and it completely blocks out DH snoring. No longer sleep deprived

HotCrossBunplease · 14/07/2025 00:39

A laminator! I hadn’t realised they only cost about £15.

HotCrossBunplease · 14/07/2025 00:43

A pack of those coloured plastic caps to put on your keys- we have two locks on our front door and the keys look identical. About £4 on Amazon. So now the one for the top lock in each of the pairs wears a hat and no more 50/50 chance of getting the wrong one every time.

ClaraLane · 14/07/2025 01:00

Big solar buddy fans here - I hate having suncream on my hands and it means the children can reapply by themselves!

Also love our bamboo toaster tongs for when crumpets and hot cross buns get stuck - no more poking the toaster with a knife to get them out.

We have a dishwasher magnet too, I just flip it over when I turn the dishwasher on. Saves anyone asking me if it’s clean or not.

Next on my list to buy is a prop to keep the washing machine open because my husband keeps closing it when I’ve left it to air.

Tumbler2121 · 14/07/2025 01:45

Friend had her car burst into flames a few days ago. A passer by got her out quickly so she had only minor injuries.

so I bought 6 x all purpose fire extinguishers from Amazon, half price at £9 each.

they are for me, daughter, grandson and son in law’s cars, and one for me at home.

hopefully never used but I feel we’re all safer

Trumpton · 14/07/2025 02:58

Those Sukeen cooling towels are amazing. We used them on a walking holiday recently and then I lent them to a friend for Thailand and they really appreciated them.

Silicone food bags for storing food both fresh and in freezer.

Fruit Buddies to go in fridge to extend life of fruit and veg.

To ask for - Best low cost thing you’ve bought recently ?

Maybe not quite the point but I picked up a Rockit from a charity shop for £5 and it’s been a life saver with the newborn.

That is a bargain. After seeing how well it worked for friends I bought one at full price and thought it was a lifesaver!

saltnvinegarhulahoops · 14/07/2025 03:37

Korean skincare! I love the laneige lip mask, have used it for years. Also found the etude collagen eye cream on Amazon, very cheap (again Korean made), I put it on all my lines, instantly tightens, even forehead ones. I was thinking of trying Botox but this has actually helped delay it for me.

Crinkleybottomburger · 14/07/2025 03:39

A box of 5 reading glasses from Amazon for £12. I actually bought a second box. They’re fab, I have glasses everywhere and can always find a pair.
