As a flip side to the expensive letdowns thread , has anyone bought anything low cost that’s been good ?
I got a mascara in b and m that’s great on my long blonde but thin eyelashes.
And an ineos hand wash that is actually really nice.

Paper/fabric fans for keeping in handbags - I’ve carried them for years and often pass them along to people struggling on public transport etc

Korean body mitt scrub - FAR better at sloughing off skin than a scrunchy puff

Do you have a link for the fans?

Inflatable paddling pool from Amazon, we’ve had a really fun weekend for £20!

pineapple tool! Makes it so easy and much less waste then my previous method of butchering them with a knife absolute game changer, annoyed I’ve never bought one before

Placemaking for the links!

Cooling towels look great, thanks!

A pack of those net tent things that pop over food. Use them daily when I am prepping or just over the fruit bowl or cat’s bowl when there are flies about.

Lidl occitane knock off verbena hand wash. Bought 6 more!

Also those Scrub Daddy sponges. Thought they were gimmicky but I actually love them.

I have been looking for a replacement hand wash for downstairs loo as Scottish Fine Soaps have discontinued Citrus Verbena which Ive used for about 5 years. L’occitane was looking likeliest candidate but I bought Aldi Citrus one to try as handy to me, its ok, but nowhere near as good, guess where Ill be going tomorrow 😃
thank you for sharing!

The string thingy that attaches to your spectacles for a £1 , no more hunting for my reading glasses 🤓

Where from?

Lafufu · 13/07/2025 17:06

I saw an advert for a glove thing that picks up per hair. Amazon had the same thing with a brush and a tiny pet toothbrush for about half the price. The glove works really well too!

I usually pick them up at markets for £1-2 each, but you can just search ‘bamboo fans’ at Amazon etc. sometimes they are as wedding party favours so 20 for £15 or so.

Dogaredabomb · 13/07/2025 17:15

Oh i love everything!!!! Thank you for the cooling towel link.

My robot mower

ok so it was £350 BUT I was paying a gardener £30 every fortnight throughout summer and have been doing that for last 4 years…. So will save me shit loads PLUS no period ever where grass is overgrown because it’s on every day.

best recent purchase

as for properly cheap item…. My bum bag! I ONLY use at the airport but so useful for putting passports and tickets

Can I ask which one you got please?

MrsClatterbuck · 13/07/2025 17:36

I have one almost brand new if anyone wants to buy

takes up lots of space and all to drain lettuce!

I bought these bags for spinning lettuce. Put lettuce in and spin in the air. Water drains into a corner which can then be poured out. Very hard to describe. Thought I had only one left but found another couple in the drawer. I just hang it up to dry and then put back in drawer. Takes up miminal space. Have no idea where and when I bought them or how much they cost but they are ingenious.

FourLove · 13/07/2025 17:43

An ancient Apple keyboard for a tenner on EBay. Far more comfortable to use that the new one I tried which cost £129!

My husband has recently got one.
I'm frightened to stay in one place for too long...

A wooden thing with little leather loops for hanging sunglasses near the door. It had a sticky strip on the back so no drilling. Love it.

Does it work? If so, which one please?

SingleAHF · 13/07/2025 19:00

I bought some plus sized skirts from SHEIN which I could not buy anywhere else, fully expecting to return them (returns are free), particularly because they cost only £5 to £8 each. They are made of gorgeous fabric and fit beautifully.

I was looking at those. Do they actually remove a skin tag or are they for spots please?
@PollyCherry Where's the water pick from?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 13/07/2025 19:06

A €3 fan in Athens last week. Have very much got my money's worth!

If it doesn't, tying cotton tightly around the base of the tag absolutely does work. (Takes a few days.)

SingleAHF · 13/07/2025 19:08

Also a 6 inch square, 4 speed, usb rechargeable fan with an adjustable stand from TEMU for £4.

GeorgieWorgie · 13/07/2025 19:08

@Monty27 @Meredusoleil
The one I have looks like this (have attached photo). It has rubber bands that you put on the device- it stretches over the pointy bit onto the applicator, then you use the applicator to put the band around the skin tag.

It wouldn’t work on tiny skin tags, but works on larger ones. I put a plaster on top of it because it doesn’t look that nice. After about a week the skin tag falls off. Or it dies, and doesn’t hurt to cut it off.
