I thought their daughter had a different name? She isn’t Rowan on the Four Hares Ltd shareholder filing.

Yes in the article about Moss being a National Trust gardener she had a different name. She may have switched to a middle name, it's not that unusual.

Bruisername · 11/07/2025 18:52

That times article is good because it really places them as the villains of the village!

I bet Mrs hemmings is livid that the statement implied it was a mistake on all sides

Redheadedstepchild · 11/07/2025 18:52

I will compose myself in a bit and find something more profound to say in relation to the Times article but a PP quoted Jarvis Cocker from Pulp's lyrics so:

"Why live in the world when you could live in your head?"

Uricon2 · 11/07/2025 18:55

The bit about Martin Hemmings scratching around to pay the wages is just horrible.

It makes me wonder (and this is just speculation) if she "upped her game" in terms of what she was stealing in the later stages, sort of to drain the well while she could.

Appalling if so.

What I don’t understand given the poor quality of the writing, which has been widely noted here, and the apparent venality and unpleasantness of the couple is why so many people have bought into it. Then again, with the very real possibility of someone like Farage becoming the next Prime Minister, I don’t have to look far for an answer. People are desperate to believe in something, and in the absence of religion, that vacuum gets filled with belief in just about anything. The country is in a febrile mood, itching to tear down plaster saints—and much else besides. There’s nowt as queer as folk as my dear mum used to say.

I suppose I’ll just have to read the damn thing and find out for myself and that truly fills me with dread particuarly if they bewitch me with their weasel words and I find myself thinking you know what they may just have a point !

I am no fan but there are plenty of published weaker writers.

It's probably she just got.more brazen the longer it went on without her being caught.

US website People.com reporting the story. Anyone want to distribute a movie over there???
https://people.com/bestselling-the-salt-path-breaks-silence-vile-heartbreaking-claims-misled-readers-11769509

Also someone posted the release dates and $$$ grossed earlier and the general release for Germany and Austria was coming up - from memory it was next week. I wonder if they are contracted to do some publicity over there?

Bestselling Author of 'The Salt Path' Breaks Silence on 'Heartbreaking' and 'Vile' Claims She Misled Readers

Bestselling author of 'The Salt Path,' Raynor Winn, has issued a lengthy statement denying claims made by the U.K. newspaper 'The Observer' that she misled readers with her story

I am no fan but there are plenty of published weaker writers.

Jeffrey Archer has, sadly, never struggled to make shedloads of money. Many years ago, I gave Kane and Abel a try but abandoned it after just a few chapters it simply didn’t hold my interest. That said, I still remember the first “adult” book I borrowed from the library at age 12 was Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. I was completely enthralled. So perhaps my standards have always been implicitly quite high!

Gosh, this really isn't dying down like they hope.

No, this is a lot more detail about the finances and deceit which is exactly what the Walkers and Penguin won't want.

I t²hink the medical letters were intended as a mike-drop moment but are instead a bit of a smoking gun.

Thankfully the Times has picked up on the 2015 medical letter's discrepancies.

Edited

They haven’t pointed out the clear time line flaw/s though (?) & implications therein.

Makes her statement appear even more self-serving. No wonder more people are going on the record.

FurryHappyKittens · 11/07/2025 19:06

A source with knowledge of the investigation said that Walker’s abandoned vehicle was found 50 miles away, in Llandudno, with a note inside criticising the investigation.

I laughed at this. Of course she would criticise the investigation! Throughout her books she's forever criticising other people.

Uricon2 · 11/07/2025 19:06

Every piece in papers like the Observer and the Times, where people recount their stories, will embolden people to come forward.

Probably wise not to do that. I think they've hinted at enough.

She described doubts raised about her husband’s corticobasal degeneration (CBD) illness as “utterly vile”. Sufferers gradually deteriorate and have a life expectancy of around six to eight years, whereas Moth has lived for much longer and in recent years has gone on months-long walks and completed the London Marathon.

The author posted redacted extracts of two letters from consultant neurologists, which detailed how her husband had been treated for CBD for many years. One 2015 letter speculated that Moth could be affected “very mildly”.

Hmmm one might wonder why she has also felt the need to do a name change! We have no idea how far the apple fell from the tree… or perhaps she is trying to distance herself FROM her parents. Hopefully the latter!

I think it's best not bringing their children into this - they have done nothing to desreve being identified even by jigsaw identification which pieces of data inevitably are.

I think the Times was wrong to name them.

Yes, I agree. I think we've all done a pretty fair job of not doing that here as I'm sure some of us (myself included) had already worked out their real names etc. It's not hard to work out, but still, naming them is a step too far I feel.

Until now. I've reported the post giving the daughter's full name.

Definitely read it (just find a free copy!).

I genuinely think, as with Belle Gibson etc, that people really want to believe you can reverse/cure terminal conditions through something entirely " natural" like walking, or drinking fruit smoothies or whatever. That's a comforting narrative. Our body as a temple in place of religion and us as humans, who if we are "good" in how we treat our bodies are guaranteed a long life. I can kind of see how believing that would give the same type of comfort as believing if you are good you will go to heaven.

And it's why people end up so blinkered in that belief that they will say frankly quite offensive things to people with terminal or chronic conditions.

I love yoga and healthy eating for their intrinsic benefits, they feel nice and make me happy, but I feel like punching people in the face when they insist a few warrior poses or some organic blueberries will magically cure my very real and serious neurological condition

Abandoned car in a seaside town and a note…hmm, I’m wondering whether Sally/Raynor may have had a different ‘escape’ plan that involved some scene setting and deception. Total conjecture of course 😁

Uricon2 · 11/07/2025 19:15

Agree we should leave their adult children out of it. They could of course be Bond supervillains stroking Persian cats but I think are much more likely to be totally innocent of all this.

If you read the post she had vanished to London. I guess she didn't want the car tracked
