Not really a AIBU. More of a question. Most years, although I don't go, I watch Glastonbury on TV and have always enjoyed it. Over the years, I can remember lots of hot summer nights, windows open, watching it and feeling transported by great music. This year, I watched as much as I could but.....nothing. Daft snd truvial as it sounds, I was so disappointed. I enjoyed CMAT and that was literally it. So I'm asking, was it s* this year , or am I just getting old and out of touch and unable to respond to it.

I agree, it was utterly shit this year.

Dangermoo · 10/07/2025 21:53

Nothing more than a lefty political platform. A snore fest.

malificent7 · 10/07/2025 22:00

I was there and had a fabulous time. Not the best line up but saw lots of good stuff: Franz Ferdinand, Pulp, Fabio and Grooverider, Pink Panthress, the Prodigy, Charliexcx, Lola Young, Self Esteem, Raye, Skepta, Weezer etc.

malificent7 · 10/07/2025 22:01

I am still a bit of a raver so there is plenty of dance music/ raves to keep you going all weekend evennifvthe bands are shite.
There is so much more than bands.

Notstrongandstable · 10/07/2025 22:03

Watching it on tv is not the same as being there! There is so much more to Glastonbury than the crap on the main stage

Noah Kahan, Lewis Capaldi, the 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, Neil young. It was decent

Yes, that all sounds great, but it just didn't come across and I dont know why.

The main headliners didn’t excite me. I enjoyed Pulp, and I enjoyed Future Islands (who played the Park stage). That was about it.

Lonelycrab · 10/07/2025 22:15

I think if you’ve never actually been to Glastonbury, commenting on if you think it’s rubbish or not, or how it translates to Tv is a little irrelevant. It’s always been much more than the tv coverage shows. It’s a small city in reality with something for everyone.

I think maybe that had something to do with it. The 1975 and Neil Young just didn't come across for.me. I like Neil Young but somehow it didn't work. I think you need powerful acts to headline . It's an ingredient I can't put my finger on but I know it when I see it.

Yeah of course. I get that. But not all of us can go and it is televised and certain acts just come across better than others. It should work for everybody.

I enjoyed a few acts on the TV: wet Leg, blossoms, rod, surprisingly CMAT, Shed Seven, Alanis M, Neil Young. Haven't watched Prodigy yet. Didn't think I it was that bad but there were a few snoozefests like 1975 and Snow Patrol.

I thonknthe presenters were a bit flat this year too..That didn't help.

Here is the massive thread on the very topic, that’s been running since the Festival https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5363519-glastonbury-worst-ive-seen

What you’ll find is … some people enjoyed it, and some people didn’t. This is because we all have different tastes, and, The BBC only shows a small percentage of what’s on.

Glastonbury worst I've seen! | Mumsnet

Anyone else? I tuned in last night and couldn't believe how bad it was! 1975 was headlining and it was so middle or the road. Maybe I'm getting old...

RaininSummer · 10/07/2025 22:44

I don't tend to listen to the commentary and just find the acts on the watch again tabs

minnienono · 10/07/2025 22:50

The macabees were good on tv, if you haven’t watched them give them a go. Unfortunately the move towards pop and dance doesn’t do it for me, and I’m not a Neil young fan, I saw pulp the week before who were amazing

I would give a toe for a ticket but agree I didn’t enjoy watching at home as much as I usually do this year. It was all doechii for me this time!

Comedycook · 10/07/2025 23:00

You couldn't pay me to attend

forthistimeonly · 10/07/2025 23:11

I went most years from 1990 to 1998 (when I was pregnant). Wouldn't go now. My exH (still friends) went as part of boy George's entourage a few years ago and said it's unrecognisable, and not in a good way. I have many happy memories but I wouldn't want to go now. I do, however, walk up to the Tor for solstice.

MelliC · 10/07/2025 23:14

The BBC coverage was very bad. They didn't show enough of the set to get into it. It was lacking any depth, like a TikTok version

EmeraldRoulette · 10/07/2025 23:16

Well, for me

hearing everybody shouting SELLING PETROL for the 1975 (it's not living if it's not with you) made me so happy. Also, I thought they did a fantastic version of About You with Carly's vocals given more prominence than usual. I didn't see it live though - I wonder if the camera edits and things are better on the version I saw on YouTube. I love The 1975 though.

Also Olivia Rodrigo. when she was singing with Robert Smith from The Cure, I thoughtthat I've actually never seen him look so happy but I don't think I've seen him singing live on TV much. That was an absolute joy.

LostVagueness25 · 10/07/2025 23:19

It’s changed a lot in the last almost 30 years that I’ve been going, and not in a good way. But if this year was your first year I’d still imagine that you’d think it was great. There’s literally hundreds of different venues and quirky experiences, catering for all tastes. The artistry that goes into creating the different areas is quite amazing. The main stages are a really tiny part of what happens there, it’s a whole other world. Also there was no mud (again!) so for that reason alone it was a good year.

suki1964 · 10/07/2025 23:23

I think different generations get different experiences

I will just say here and now , it wasnt my most enjoyed Glastonbury

I was watching with my 11 year old Granddaughter, so I watched Charlie XcX ( crap in my mind ) and Olivia Rodriguez ( new to me but loved her )

She in turn was amazed with Pulp

We muddled along with the rest - most she hadn't heard of , some I was embarrassed to say ' you have got to watch.... "

For some, it was the best ever glastonbury, for others like the op and myself, there's been a lot better ..... and a lot worse
