No I don’t. I’m not sure why you think I think that 😂

So how am I barking up the wrong tree?

@sualipa
i see your point but the whole weighing of sins vs good acts is subjective

to me the potential harm she has done to those with neurological conditions most likely outweighs the good

having a selfish motive for doing good also pops you on the ‘bad’ scale imo

plus the impact on her various victims be they alive or dead

very Egyptian though!!!

Also known as the Jimmy Savile defence! I remember winding up my brother when Savile died, saying, “Just wait there’s a lot that’s going to come out. He was a real wrong’un.” My brother, who was a senior BBC employee at the time, snapped back: “He raised £40 million for charity what have you done?

This was discussed on Radio 4 Today (today!) around 8.50am and the contributors say the blame lies at the door of Penguin/ Random House who is a massive publisher and should have done due diligence, especially around Tim Walker's illness before the book was accepted (and how he was able to complete the walk with his supposed diagnosis.)

Agree with this- yes then the difference in timing between the letter and the walk would have arisen.

Taytocrisps · 11/07/2025 12:32

By the way, thanks to the pps who mentioned Belle Gibson. I'm currently watching the Netflix series 'Apple Cider Vinegar'. It's fascinating, but very dark. I guess it's a very difficult subject to raise - "So, can you verify that you were diagnosed with brain cancer (in Belle's case)/CBD (in Moth's case)?". Going forward a publisher can cite the Wynns as an example i.e., "Well, you know I hate to cast a doubt on your diagnosis, but we received a lot of criticism when we published the book by Raynor Wynn. I'm afraid we will need you to submit confirmation of your medical condition".

The DM is reporting that Maxine Farrimond (new owner of the Welsh house) has the holiday let barn which is part of the property listed as an Airbnb. Looks lovely.

Shall we have a thread weekend away and see what info we can uncover from her and other locals about the Walkers and their UK / France debts?

Well, I have not made any speculations about why there might be a personal connection / conflict of interest - if indeed there is. And your posts seemed to infer a few speculations you suggest I am making, when I am not.

Simply that - if I was a journalist I would be interested to investigate the doctor who has made surprising comments on a memoir as this isn’t usual behaviour for a medical professional, who may or may not be TW’s neurologist, and is also involved in property in the small town where the couple lived in Wales.

There may or may not be anything there to discover.

Let's all walk there.

I still can't get over how stupid she was not to redact the dates on his medical letters. And even to post them at all, lacking as they do the dreadful terminal diagnosis.

That confirms for me that she didn't take any advice, just went ahead with her self-defending tosh because she's a narc and obvs everyone would believe little old her...

Most are seeing these as ‘proof’ & questioning why she was forced to produce them at all.

Ok, let's compare it to best selling non-fiction books. A New York Times best seller could manage 100,000 copies in its first year. Sales will tail off after that. Selling 2 million books over 7 years means an average of nearly 300,000 copies a year.

I am going to make this point one last time and then give up. I am not in the slightest bit interested in how many books they have sold. Posters have droned on about how most of the world won't care about the lies / hear about the lies because of one reason or another. Most of the world will not have read the book, seen the film etc., - but I would lay bets an awful lot more have heard about the lies because more people "read the internet" now than read books. My point is that two million people having read the book is next to nothing in the world population, but the number of people who read things on the internet.... sources abroad have been linked to on this site so those are quite a lot more likely to have been read. For those people the starting point of knowing about the story is the lies.

FurryHappyKittens · 11/07/2025 12:40

I've just had a look at the Haye Farm insta page, no mention of the Walkers, although they may have deleted like Angela Harding.

Seems like a business with a number of staff involved. Intermittent posts going back to 2016.

They mention Rick Stein and his programme.

I suspect a lot of people will have heard she's provided a statement, and published medical letters.

And taken that at face value.

I don't think there ever was mention of the Wynns/Walkers on the Haye Farm page; and no mention of cider making on RW's page, but lots of pictures and stories of the wildlife on the farm.

They didn't need to spend thousands doing a full investigation, just asked for a copy of the medical letter.

You know, the one she's now provivided that says he was diagnosed with mild CBS symptoms in 2015.

PS, the New York Times best seller is called the Body Keeps Score. It has been a best seller for 250+ weeks and has sold 3 million copes. The Salt Path never made it on to the list.

I suppose they just didn’t think it would be that popular.

However, it was inevitable that questions would be asked at the point that somebody made a film - if only because the marketing hooks demand that.

If you accept the premise that a ‘bad investment’ can make somebody homeless, what were the details and how should that be regulated?

If walking can reverse the symptoms of CBD, who is investigating that? what is the speed of research? How quickly can the results be translated into treatment?

HolyPond · 11/07/2025 12:51

@FurryHappyKittens —That’s nearly what happens in The Wild Silence.😀

The owner shows up, apparently for the first time since they took over the land, on a motorbike, rides up where the Walkers are standing, raises his visor, looks at them without speaking, with either sweat or tears running down his face (they aren’t sure, but he later confirms he was crying) and immediately rides off again. They’ve apparently been worried he’ll think they haven’t done enough, but when he returns later with his family, he’s overflowing with gratitude at the rewilding.

From what I remember, there’s originally a plan they will run the orchard and make cider, rewild, but also use the land for some type of farming, but after they’ve lived there a while, there’s an exchange between the Walkers about just rewilding and cider-making being as much as they can manage.

Who knows why they fell out?

(I’m assuming that the farmhouse looks nice now because the Walkers renovated it, as described in TWS, not that they were lying about it originally being in a bad state…?)

How were they involved with the Rick Stein programme?

From what I vaguely remember, it was just the standard Rick Stein approach from his ‘travelling around local food producers’ shows — they show him the orchard and the press, talk about the process, he tastes the cider/the fresh juice.
